Beautiful pick of green for the newly budding leaves. Down here our peepers are the hatching doves and grackles.

:-) It IS the most wonderful time of the year. Don’t they just sing “JOY”! And then there are the Spring green leaves….a feast for the eyes.

Liz, your wonderful pick is telling what’s going on here outside! Several different frogs are singing all at once when evening falls: peepers, chorus frogs, and the ones that sound like they are growling (leopard frogs?). When I first saw your title, I thought it said “New Leaves and Peppers!” I was going to. Say how nice to already have peppers in your garden. Man….I need new glasses for these old eyes.

Thanks, everyone! Kathryn, Ha! Yes, my eyes are getting terrible, too! I take my glasses off at home & reading any of the text on the TV when I’m on the couch is a challenge! Is it the sixth inning or the 8th? 9th? Oh, who knows, the Sox aren’t winning this one anyway, from the tone of the commentary. (I will put the glasses back on for Bruins hockey, though.) And my typing of words with double letters often doubles-up the wrong letter, so maybe I did type peppers when I meant peepers. Seems easily something I would do. No, no peppers here yet, by any stretch of the imagination. Not even in seedling form. Actually, this is an anticipatory pick, as we still just have buds ready to burst into leaf on the trees, and the pond frogs are moving & spawning, birds singing like crazy, but I’m waiting for the peeper chorus– I just know it’s coming any day now & I’m so excited.
I put this pick together as I’ve pulled out supplies to make a necklace for my mother in Downeast Maine to celebrate this time before it gets to her in a few weeks. I’ve accumulated 9 of the GG tree frog beads (my aim was about 13, not sure if I’ve missed any more I bought), 2 studded round Greek pewter beads for balls of frog spawn, leftover 15mm & 9-10mm lodolite rounds from a toady necklace I made my friend Sarah years back (watery & wonderful), picture jasper in a bunch of sizes (rounds & rondelles) for the coloring/camouflage of the tree frogs themselves, grass green turquoise in 12mm rondelles & 10mm rounds, leftover prehnite w/ rutile in 6mm, 9-10mm & 16mm rounds, and a couple strands of discontinued Czech glass 8×12 leaf drops in chartreuse quartz. Not sure how or if I’ll incorporate everything, I’m thinking to split it to two strands just past the side of the neck. Whatever I do, if it’s going to happen in time for her to wear to celebrate the season this year, I better get on it! We’re days away here, which means a couple weeks there.

Our peepers have finally begun to make themselves heard and a few leaf buds are appearing! Hooray!!!
