“October is SIDS Awareness”

Description from Kathryn Lobert: In November 2004, we were blessed with a new granddaughter. What a treasure and what a joyful Christmas we had with the entire family together! In January 2005, our world turned inside out when this beautiful treasure passed away during a nap. In my desperate search to help our son and daughter-in-law as well as somehow find answers as to how God could let this happen. Years before, I had decided that I would never be able to find answers to the"why" question to anything, and I would just have to trust God to bring us through whatever. Then we got only 72 days with our granddaughter and there was no way to "fix" the pain of our kids or even our own pain. Thus I searched at the computer, etc, night after night. Never got a satisfying answer, but I came to the point that I knew Rosy would never want part of her legacy to be grandma turning away from God. So the healing, such as it exists, began and I started making bracelets for fundraisers and for comfort for others. I never charge for a bracelet or postage for a mom, grandma, or aunt. The bracelet is a tangible item to show that a beautiful baby had a short but precious stay on the planet. FYI - there is still no prevention, predictability, or cure for SIDS. Parents can follow every recommendation and the baby may still die. But, please follow the recommendations and please never ask a parent what happened. They do not know and what they hear is, "what did you do to cause this?" I believe they are closer to getting a few answers, but that will still only be a small step to finding an ending - but it will be a start! October is SIDS Awareness Month and the colors are pink and blue. The best thing you can do is be there for the family. Let them talk about their child because they want to know their baby is remembered.

A very soft, pretty pick for a sad occurrence. I hope this hasn’t been part of your families’ life.

Thanks, Elaine. We lost our precious granddaughter 4.5 years ago. If I could help end this even one family sooner than it would have, I would be very happy. Most people don’t understand (and I was one of them) that there is no prevention, prediction, or rescuing from SIDS. I cannot bring her back, but I can do the best I am able to honor her and work to end this for other families. She was a complete treasure for her 72 days.

So very sorry to hear of your loss…I’m sure that it is still quite painful to recall.
I never got to know my granddaughter…she was stillborn about 2 years ago.
I would imagine though that a SIDS baby would be completely devastating to the whole family. My heart aches for anyone that has gone through something like that.
