“Orioles and Oranges”

Description from Beady Little Eyes: Watching the Orioles eat oranges at the feeder. What beautiful birds they are! I believe they winter in Florida... Maybe that's why they love oranges.

Don’t you just love those showy, brash, always-singing little guys? We put out grape jelly right around the time our cottonwoods leaf out. They go crazy for it as well as raiding the hummingbird feeder. I love your pick with all the perfect colors of both Baltimore and Bullock Orioles.

I’ve never seen an Oriole, although supposedly Bullock’s Orioles exist here, although not near us. I tried putting out orange slices, in hope. Maybe I should wear some jewelry made from this pick!

Perfect pick for Baltimore Orioles. They came through here a couple of springs and haven’t seen any since then.

You guys are funny. I put orange halves into suet cages and the Baltimore Orioles – (I just looked in my bird book and it may be an Orchard Oriole because it’s so orange.) The Eastern Towhee seems to like it also. I never thought about jelly. I’ll have to try that.

The males’ feathers are the same color as an orange but the females’ feathers are yellow.

Very interesting. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen an oriole. I’ll have to google it.

Congrats on this lovely “ode to orioles”!
Happy to know you still have them with you.
Until last year we had an abundance of them at our house. Then, suddenly the population dropped last Spring. Briefly saw one pair this year…but nothing constant. Hope the population rebounds soon. Sad…our natural world is crumbling.

Mary – Hope the Orioles come back to your area. They’re such lovely birds. And I know what you mean about our natural world. Just read about the amount of plastic in the oceans!

I did Google oriole and found them to be absolutely gorgeous creatures. I love birds and this one is exceptional. My favorite is still the mountain bluebird. Congratulations on a lovely POD.

    Beady Little Eyes says:

Granny Nancy – I had to google mountain bluebird as I have never seen one before. I can see why it’s your favorite.

Thanks for the beautiful POD! For the first time in ages and ages, we have orioles this spring PLUS one stray bluebird. Bird coloration can be magical, can’t it?!

    Beady Little Eyes says:

Thanks Chicky – Love to watch the birds. Orioles and bluebirds! Nice
