Description from puppychick labratbecky: So here I am signed up to do a half marathon (my first) next week Saturday and a few days ago something happened in my lower back to pinch a nerve, possibly my sciatic. My butt hurts, my hamstring hurts and I get stabbed when I move certain ways. Arrrggggggg!!!!!!!! I've been trying to stretch my back out to relieve the pinch and running with the pain but it ain't pretty. This pick makes me feel a whole lot better! :)

    I know of the pain you’re experiencing.
    My chiropractor is a life saver when it happens to me.
    After she adjusts me she says don’t sit for more than 30 minutes-1 hour at a time. Use ice packs frequently to help bring down swelling.

    Hope you heal quickly!

    Sorry, Becky about the back. I’ve suffered most of my adult life with back problems. Do what Mary advises. The ice packs do help and you do need to take some Advil and try not to sit too long. Don’t stretch yet; if your sciatic nerve is inflamed, stretching will only make it worse. I’ve been nursing a strained calf muscle for the past 3 weeks, so I know how frustrating things can get. Well, now that the doctor (LOL) has spoken, let me say that I love your pick and humor!?

    Oh no! Back pain is the worst, hope you’re on the mend soon. My Husband got me a gift certificate for acupuncture for my back. I haven’t used it yet. So I cannot tell you if it works or not anyway.. get well soon.

    You need to see someone if it continues to be bad. I’ve had back problems most of my adult life and it was found I had a mild scoliosis. But what nobody knew and it took years of suffering and seeing many Drs. including chiropractors, to learn I have degenerative disc disease.

    My final doctor was a neurologist who could not believe that an MRI had never been done. By that time my spine was a trainwreck of a mess needing immediate surgery. I had stenosis in 2 places. I had 2 surgeries to finally get it to a place where I could really heal but with neuropathy, I will never be what I was.

    This may not be your situation but do see a reputable chiropractor. A good one can be very helpful. A good chiropractor will recommend an MRI or CTScan if he suspects something too serious for him/her to treat.

    I “get” your pick and it is excellent.

    I am taking today off from running and then trying a long run tomorrow. Wish me luck. :) Thanks for all the lovely sympathy!! I know a lot of chickies have had to deal with back issues and I truly sympathize with you all! :)
