Description from EPBCornell: Here it is, Mary. Somehow falling short of what I loved about the Xaz raku & wanted to play up & play off to inspire this in the first place, but I can't figure out what it needs to get it where I want it. I bet tech2k could find the right pieces to pull in to get it right for me! Marlene, I need you!

EPBCornell says:Marilee, I have totally run into that issue. Ones I expected shades of blue with some burgundy from the variations picture were all mostly greenish– still beautiful! Another where the picture showed glowing matte metallic pink and golden hues entirely covering the shown side were almost entirely gray, maybe with dark charcoal, some burgundy edges & the fewest traces of blue. Such is the nature of raku, and what makes the really wonderful pieces all the more special: you can’t control the patterning of the fire much. It tends toward chaos. The effects it can make can be absolutely exquisite. Or just “eh.” My luck with the Xaz has been more pleased than disappointed, and better, or more predictable, with the glassy finishes than the mattes. But I think with any raku, unless you are purchasing a singular pictured one-of-a-kind item with pictures from multiple angles in varied lighting, probably best to limit one’s expectations & just keep fingers crossed. Think I’m going to end up trying my luck with this Xaz green large flower coin anyway.
