“Raku I hadnt noticed before” NEW!

Description from EPBCornell: Here it is, Mary. Somehow falling short of what I loved about the Xaz raku & wanted to play up & play off to inspire this in the first place, but I can't figure out what it needs to get it where I want it. I bet tech2k could find the right pieces to pull in to get it right for me! Marlene, I need you!

Or is it time for a new FP challenge?
What picks can we all come up with to capture & enhance the wonderful beauty of the Xaz raku green large flower coin?

EPB, have you seen the Czech glass purple peacock round druk? I think it has some complimentary colors?

TGZ, I thought I knew the 6mm druks you were suggesting & went back to check them out: SPOT ON! They were lovelier than I remembered & would be brilliant with the raku coin! Yes! That’s what I’m talking about pieces enhancing each other’s beauty. Both complementary & complimentary, as it would be. Great eye! Thanks, GZ! BTW, you can call me Liz, if you’d like. Hi! Are you fine with “GZ” or should I call you by anything else in these little notes? Is TGZ better?

GZ – I think you came up with a winner to go along with all the beauties in this pick. Lovely. The green flower coin is amazing.

Liz, don’t cut yourself short, this is BEAUTIFUL!
There’s a lovely floral dance going on here. The brass accents are spot-on….giving it an aged warmth. A new fav for me!
I echo your call for Marlene to come out and play. Her eye for creativity is sorely missed.

A beautiful pick, Liz! Love all your bead options.
Has anyone else trouble receiving a raku which looks nothing like any of the variations?
I also miss Marlene and her fabulous picks. Most of my ‘faves’ are her’s …

Liz, this is a wonderful pick for the XAZ coin. I hadn’t seen it before either. I agree that I also miss Marlene’s picks and wish to see more of her picks. Sorry, Marilee, but I have to admit that the DAY pieces I have ordered exceeded the beauty of the pictures.

Hi Liz! yes, yes! you can call me maggie however, I must say that I have been enjoying people calling me GZ (I do like to imagine the strangeness of a green zebra…) TGZ sound so formal! lol!
And I do agree with all the other comments, your pick is beautiful just as it is, but I really enjoy challenges, I think you’re right, a challenge would be a great idea!

Marilee, I have totally run into that issue. Ones I expected shades of blue with some burgundy from the variations picture were all mostly greenish– still beautiful! Another where the picture showed glowing matte metallic pink and golden hues entirely covering the shown side were almost entirely gray, maybe with dark charcoal, some burgundy edges & the fewest traces of blue. Such is the nature of raku, and what makes the really wonderful pieces all the more special: you can’t control the patterning of the fire much. It tends toward chaos. The effects it can make can be absolutely exquisite. Or just “eh.” My luck with the Xaz has been more pleased than disappointed, and better, or more predictable, with the glassy finishes than the mattes. But I think with any raku, unless you are purchasing a singular pictured one-of-a-kind item with pictures from multiple angles in varied lighting, probably best to limit one’s expectations & just keep fingers crossed. Think I’m going to end up trying my luck with this Xaz green large flower coin anyway.
