A beautiful pick. The metals and stones you picked complement the lovely stick pearls.

    There she is!!
Smart Chick, either we’ve been here at LB at different times or you’ve been missing in action for a while. Either way it’s good to have you back!

I like your, soothing mix of silver, pinks, and brass. Well blended!

Beautiful, Joyce! The stick pearls are so pretty – I ordered a 1/2 strand today of the pink ones! A little spendy for me – but I couldn’t resist! Hope you’re well!

Thanks much Sweet and Silly chick!!! Yep I haven’t been Picking for awhile lately – my trusty laptop’s monitor decided to die the day after I turned in ALL of my assignments for the quarter, a few weeks ago!!! So I had to find another laptop, got lucky and found an inexpensive used one thru E-bay… always makes me nervous buying stuff sight unseen… so now I’m getting used to my current laptop… :)

Thanks chickies!!! I finally got to get out of town this past weekend brieftly. I visited a friend from school who lives up north on Whidbey Island w/ her husband and two big dogs… we had the best time visiting and sharing stories… both of them attended Antioch in different programs and have graduated recently. Great to be back chatting and seeing Picks again!!! :) and LB keeps on adding sooo many gorgeous new beads… :)

Joyce, what a beautiful, relaxing pick!!! I love this! So great to have you back after so long! When do you start your classes again? Did you get the grant you applied for in the spring? Inquiring minds want to know…… :D

    J Yee smart chick says:

    Hi Lynn,

Thanks for the note! It’s so good to hear from you too – I start classes this weekend. Regarding the scholarship I applied for, unfortunately I didn’t get it. There’s so many other well qualified folks and the economy is not good. So good thing I applied again for some loans and asked dad for a bit of help – I’ll be able to pay about a third of the cost, thanks to his help and a bit of my own $$. Did you enjoy the long weekend last week??? :)

  11. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Hi, Joyce! Sorry to hear the scholarship didn’t work out for you. I’m sure you deserved it, too. Glad to hear it won’t keep you from finishing school, though. Wow, hard to believe it’s time for you to start back already! What classes are you taking this term? Yes, we did have a nice, relaxing weekend. Sounds as though you did, too! :D

I’m sooo glad to be chatting with all of you again, thanks for asking… I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend last week!!!

Lynn, I’m taking an independent study course that lets me do some volunteer work w/ a local environmental group, plus another regarding coaching folks in the workplace…

how is the summer going for everyone??? I’m staying put for a bit due to the volunteer outreach and interviews I’ll be doing w/ that environmental group… plus gotta keep working since LB will have that moving sale sometime… :)

tee hee you catch on fast, chicky LE!

summer is going great, especially now that july is here and there is not much on the “to do” list except the usual daily life stuff! Aaah.

Joyce, I love working, but school was always hard for me (ADD) and a means to an end! I don’t envy you the schoolwork, but all my education was sooo worth it!! Sending cyber-encouragement your way!!

  16. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Me, too, Joyce! I’m so proud of all you’re doing for yourself!!! :D :D :D

  17. J Yee smart chick
    J Yee smart chick says:

Plucky, thank you very much for sharing your own difficulties w/ school, I’m soo glad you persisted and got thru school and say it’s worthwhile to do!!! thanks also for your encouragement… I’m finding it much more enjoyable and meaningful to attend school as a mature woman – my first time in college I hated it cuz I was in a major I couldnt’ understand or relate to – nothing like the wrong match… then finding other programs and schools w/ a different kind of learning process – my program is structured towards adult learners so we have many ways to make our learning experiential – we often do small groups and exercises to help us practice reflecting on and discussing what we’re learning…

  18. J Yee smart chick
    J Yee smart chick says:

and by the way, what do you do these days Plucky – that is, for work??? it sure is important to find work that is meaningful and enjoyable to ourselves – sort of like finding schooling that is also the same way… doesnt matter how much $$$ a profession or job is supposed to make you, if you are in the wrong one!!!

    RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:

I was married for 8 years before kids came along, worked in critical care nursing and cardiac care. When second and third child came along, I was able to stay home with them and be involved in all kinds of kids activities! Right now I manage my youngest daughter’s soccer team and they travel quite a bit so that keeps me pretty busy. Since I got my laptop, I have been spending probably too much time on the computer, but I love photography and photo editing. My sister and I joke that we are “closet artists”! We were encouraged to go into math and sciences, which I love, but now I am loving finding my creative, artistic side!

    J Yee smart chick says:

Plucky, thanks for sharing about yourself, such great work – from critical care nursing and cardiac care, to managing your youngest daughter’s soccer team!!! I sure can relate to your comments about spending too much time on your laptop… since I got my first in 2007 I have been spending lotsa time especially due to LB and Picks… and those contests they have periodically!!! I was going thru laptop withdrawal while I looked for another laptop… hee hee, gotta get off now and go to sleep cuz I’m gonna go bead shopping tomorrow at the big bead festival in Tacoma… :) , good night and will chat again tomorrow!!! :)

  21. J Yee smart chick
    J Yee smart chick says:

aaahhh can’t believe it… Plucky, I’m sooo glad you and your sister are finding your creative sides now, after working in fields that are math and science oriented… my first profession – the one that I couldn’t relate to – was engineering, I spent most of those years working as a civilian for the Air Force in NW florida… then have been doing social service advocacy and community organizing the past 10 or so years – none of which pays the bills adequately… so decided I better go back to school, and I wanted to change careers… like you I do want to make room for my creative side while finishing my schooling, I sure feel better when I regularly do creative stuff!!! :)

    BEAD FESTIVAL!!! OK, I’m jealous.
Have FUN! And let us know how you make out with all those beads calling your name! ;-)

  25. J Yee smart chick
    J Yee smart chick says:

    Hi Sweet chick,

I know what you mean… I had bead envy when Anita went to the Bead & Button show earlier this year!

Well I went on Friday and spent several hours during the day, the Puget Sound Bead Fest is always a great one, cuz they have vendors that beaders like, unlike the gem & jewelry shows (where there’s venders that sell premade jewelry for really high prices…)

OK so – I spent way too much $$ – where have we heard that before??? I got some beautiful ceramic pendants from the same seller I got my previous lovely “ms. turtle” blue and brown pendant… some lovely teardrop prehnite… colorful seed bead mixes… I notice I always tend to buy certain things such as seed bead mixes – these are lots of fun cuz they have creative names such as “surf and sand” or “frog’s belly”… the former is shades of blue, cream and copper brown.. the later is shades of green… and then I always buy some gemstone beads…

unfortunately I noticed that there were fewer vendors this year – two big ones “Out on a Whim” and “Beyond Beadery” weren’t there this year and they have previously always been there – these two both have lots and lots of every kind of Japanese seed bead and swarovski crystals, plus some Czech pressed glass beads, seed bead kits… it’s so much fun to go even though way dangerous to my wallet, I had fun seeing many gemstones that LB carries… and noticing how quality and pricing of both pearls and gemstone beads by vendors tended to vary…
Also I suggest finding someone to go with, preferably someone who can be a “voice of reason” – who can maybe say “hey ya really gonna buy that…” – hopefully that’s not wishful thinking cuz anyone interested to go would prbably also like beads!!! :)

    Kitty Chicky Cat says:

Cool Smart Chick! That sounds like lots of fun! I want to see what you do with your new treasures!! Please?! :)

  27. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Oh, Joyce, it sounds as though you had a wonderful time! Did your wallet need CPR when you were done shopping? LOL

Can’t wait to see what you create with your new treasures! Love the names of those color mixes, too — what fun! Thanks for sharing with those of us who weren’t lucky enough to go! :D

  28. J Yee smart chick
    J Yee smart chick says:

OK kitty, will keep ya posted… sometimes after I buy beads it takes awhile for ideas to come up…

Lynn, I”m ROTFL and LMAO about your sooo apt description “did your wallet need CPR when you were done shopping…” – YEAH!!! – the bead fest folks encouraged us to SHOP by giving us all maps of the show vendors, as we bought stuff vendors were supposed to give us a sticker on their booth space… and any one who got 10 stickers would get a prize, anyone w/ more would get entered in a drawing for a bigger prize… :)

kitty, I should scan my necklace and bracelat that I just made w/ rainbow fluorite… the necklace has wood beads and crazy lace to add some “earth” element to help me feel more grounded, and rainbow fluorite that can either be symbolic of water and/or air elements…

Yes, don’t we wish we had jobs designing bead mixes like those that I bought??? some are just mixes of different colors of the same size bead, the “frog belly” one is a Toho product and has some of each kind of seed bead from bugles to drops to cubes, triangles and the round ones…
