“That Darn Cardinal”

Description from EPBCornell: For the past couple of years we've had a male cardinal that roosts in the gigantic laurel shrub that grows overhanging our back deck, chirping loudly and leaving piles of poop on our deck and furniture. And yet we have come to think of him more as pet than pest, and I'm sure I'll miss him when he's gone, chirping and pooping no more.

Thanks for the humor! I needed that. We don’t get Cardinals in Oregon, but I did see one once in Texas, many years ago. You a lucky to have such a beautiful pest/pet. Nice pick to go with the bird.

Liz, your cute pick reminds me of my neighbor and me! Our resident Cardinal pair perches in the huge Arbor Vitae right outside her bedroom window, and SINGS his little heart out! :D She blames me because I feed them and other birds with a year-round heated bird bath. Robins are nuisance to me in the poop category. HA! Love your Gaea Eye representing you (and my neighbor!) plus the Grace Lampwork Cardinal and Gaea Birdie are precious!

Fabulous pick with humor! Love the sari silk here. We have 5 or 6 pairs of cardinals enjoying their sunflower seeds. My husband found a dead female last week, not sure what happened to it, but sad. I enjoy mimicking their calls and talking to them. They have 25 different calls! Kathryn, I’m thinking about getting a heated birdbath … anything you can tell me about it, positives and negatives?

Great pick. We have3 pair of Cardinals at our feeder. So beautiful and fun to watch. I really love the females.

Maggies Mom, sorry about the Cardinal. It’s possible she collided into a glass window that reflected trees. It happens often. We found our birdbath on Amazon. It is a type of vinyl or something and the heat element is inside the bowl. We plug it in an outdoor plug. My hubby puts a stone in it for smaller birds to sit. Deer, fox and coyotes come and drink at night.

Liz, Thanks so much for the smile this pick gave me this morning! Since we had to remove several very tall pine trees from our backyard, all we have visiting now are some very nervous wrens & finches. I’ve never seen birds run so fast & hide in the bushes all day. I long to again see the beaming red of a cardinal in our trees. l really like the ‘red birdy’ Gaea bundle–it’s got the creative part of my brain moving early this day.
