“The Colors of Autumn”

Description from Kathryn R: With each day, October has been turning our world golden! Along with the deep reds and flaming oranges of course. All we need is more rain so the trees survive the winter.

Magnificent autumn selections for the golden yellows & russet reds with the rare blazes of orange coming out now. I hope your region gets the rain it needs! We’ve had a fairly wet year, nearly flooding a couple of our separate river communities just a few weeks ago in one storm. I expect we’ll get more vibrant fall colors soon having had decent rainfall. Only the swamp maples are really turning as of yet. The fall colors seem late to me this year, but my mental clock is admittedly out-of-whack. The pendulum doesn’t so much swing back and forth as do a whacked out shimmy like Elaine Bennis from Seinfeld’s weird dancing.

Beautiful fall pick! I have had maybe a dozen red and yellow leaves fall off my only tree that changes colors. My 3 oak trees lose brown leaves all winter with the last calling after the new green ones are on the trees.

Beautiful pick. Not much color here yet also.

I woke up to geese flying south this morning. So noisy and beautiful.

Attached some photos of mushrooms growing in my yard last evening. The orange one was 5 inches tall!

Just noticed the Walnut Wood & Tortoise Shell Swirl Resin Coin Focal. It looks like sand dunes. Beautiful.

HA! Liz…Elaine’s dancing!! The mental picture! :D Beady, were those Canada Geese? If so, they were probably the ones that were hanging out in our now-skuzzy pond all spring and summer. :-/ Now heading south.
Thanks, guys, for your nice comments. It’s a beautiful time of year.

Yes Kathryn – Canada Geese. So beautiful. Oh – and the mushroom opened up. It’s a Yellow-Orange Fly Agaric Mushroom. I read that the Vikings used to eat some before battle as it did away with fear.

Thanks, Bev and MH! Beady, my son was a line cook for some of the best head chefs in the Midwest. He loves to go mushroom hunting while mountain biking and knows which ones are gourmet and which are poisonous.

    Congratulations Kathryn. Lovely.

Just saw your post about the mushrooms. I would love to be able to distinguish between them but I’m too afraid. I believe morels are pretty easy to recognize but there are some look alikes. They are delicious. Great that your son can tell them apart.

Thanks so much, Everyone! Liz, your adjective is perfect in MY book. I’m thinking of those of you on the west coast getting slammed by that surprise “west coast typhoon!” Hope you all are ok.
