“The Ice Storm”

Description from Melody F: There was a big ice storm in Oregon last Friday night. About a half hour past midnight our power went off. We were awake. It was very cold but the heat had been on, so we bundled up and put on an extra comforter and went to sleep. Morning came and there was still no power. By late afternoon we decided to look for a motel room. We were lucky, and found one close to home. But the power didn't come on until today, Wednesday. We had missed check out time, so we are staying the night tonight. A little staycation. Trees all over Salem fell over, or lost limbs. The deciduous ones fared worse than the evergreens. My car got a little dent from a tree branch that fell. My insurance covers it. There are stacks of branches all over town, some still in the streets. 9 Oregon counties are in a state of emergency, including Marion, where I live. But it's not as bad as Texas.

Wow Melody – what a mess. Can’t imagine 5 days without power. So scary. Your pick says it all.

I’m heart broken at all the destruction these storms are creating. I feel so bad as we sit in our home with the heater working, and thinking about those without heat and how cold they must be. I have this fear of being without heat ever since our heater broke & was out for over a week. I’ve accumulated many blankets–but cold is cold is cold, and many are suffering badly right now. May they find strength to endure. Your pick is fitting and felt.

Melody, I am SO sorry about these harrowing 5 days for you! your pick shows a brutal beauty. My heart goes out to you trying to endure the cold and your trees being destroyed by the nasty storm. And my heart goes out to all the poor folks in the south that are not wealthy and can do alright in this horrible polar blast. I pray that help gets to them quickly.

I’m back in my house and the power is on. ! missed buying some dragonfly beads I wanted from Lima, because my tablet wouldn’t charge enough before midnight. I didn’t have its special cable at the motel. I tried using a Trac phone but LB wanted my password, which I couldn’t remember. The time ran out. Oh well, another time. I am grateful that we found a motel room, and that the house wasn’t damaged. Just across the street a neighbor had to have roofers and electricians.
