“To Fair or not to Fair ????”

Description from Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick: I used the mystic blue feldspath because probably only a mystic can answer this question.

I have the opportunity to display at an arts and crafts fair in my hometown this Saturday. My dilema is that there are already 4 jewelry vendors. Any thoughts?

If you have enough inventory, I think it would be a good idea to give it a try. Your designs are so pretty, that, even though there will be other vendors, I think your jewelry will sell like hotcakes! Good luck if you go ahead with it. :)

Forgot to say this is beautiful!!!!

Thank you, Cathy. I’m seriously considering it, but my husband thinks it’s a waste of time. Especially since the last one was rained out.

Cool pick! I say do fair! Go with what you’ve got and see what you get! :)

    KPJEWELS says:

Go for it Jeanne. If you can display better and I know you have gorgeous jewellery, then you should go for it. Its good advertising and word of mouth is sometimes a great way to get your name out there. Take advantage of every avenue you can. It can’t hurt.

Will Larry be able to help you again? Hopefully the rain will stay away this time.

    KPJEWELS says:

    BTW, this is great pick.

Hopefully, Larry will help me set up, but I’m sure he won’t hang around. It wouldn’t be necessary since it’s so close to home.

I have inventory – I’ve been preparing for a home show at the end of the month. If I did Saturday and did well, I’ll still have time before then.

Hi, Jeanne! First, this is a beautiful pick — straight into my faves! Second, I say “Go for it!” I think you should take every opportunity possible to get your name and designs out there before the buying public! :D Your jewelry is gorgeous, you’ve learned some lessons from your last fair, you have the inventory, your jewelry is gorgeous, it wouldn’t interfere with your upcoming home show, and your jewelry is gorgeous!!! :D Did I mention that your jewelry is gorgeous? ;-) The other jewelry vendors may not have anything like you are creating, so I vote “YES!”

    Debbi aka Sparkle Chick says:

Go for it Jeanne…every chance you get to display your jewelry is a learning experience and an opportunity to get your name out there.
Your work is beautiful! Let us know what you decide!
    I LOVE this pick too!

  11. Julie v
    Julie v says:

Jeanne, your designs in the gallery are simple yet elegant. I think you should do the show because you don’t know what other people have and you will learn from the experience. Go for it!

Thank you all for the encouragement! I’ll have to do some serious thinking in the next day or so.

I do love these blues, too, If I do say so myself.

    This is a beautiful pick.
And Go to the Fair!!! Don’t be afraid of 4 other vendors. You will be unique, and your designs are beautiful. !!!
I hope it is a gorgeous day, no rain, and you sell lots of your jewelry.
    Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Fashion Chick aka SC
    Fashion Chick aka SC says:

I agree with the other ladies! Go for it!!What you don’t sell can be sold at your home show, Jeanne. Take advantage of this opportunity.

This would be an easier decision if I had my husband’s support. My daughter hesitated at first, but then emphasized the value of getting my designs and my name out there locally.

    D D Mystic Chick says:

go for it! different venues draw different people… if nothing else it will be a learning experience… see what people show up, what the other jewelry vendors are doing, what is selling… who knows, it may lead to another opportunity… you’ll never know unless you do it :)

    good point DD !

    Go for it!!!!!

    Mary - Sweet Chick says:

As Mystic Chick said, it’s good learning experience if nothing else and with it being that close to home it doesn’t get much more convenient than that.
I had my first show on Saturday and there were 5 or 6 other jewelry vendors!!! Lots of competition but every jewelry maker has their own style and $ level so there was something for all tastes. I had hoped for better sales but I did much better than last year! AND I’m starting to get my name out there! (I got a few custom orders out of it too!)
So yeah! Go for it! Exposure, experience and maybe a few extra dollars…….!!!!If you’ve got inventory and time available, why not? Opportunity only knocks once!!! Again agreeing with DD… you won’t know until you try!! :-D

  20. Happy Chick aka Harriet
    Happy Chick aka Harriet says:

Jeanne, I think 4 or 5 other jewelry vendors is no big deal. I did vote “no” on an opportunity coming up this fall, where my friends & I were considering a booth. The booth fees were not too bad, split 3 ways, but we would have had over 20 jewelry booths in competition, as well as many collectables booths. We knew this from visiting a spring show at this venue.
With that many competitors, it is hard to find your own niche. But your fair sounds like a nice chance to have your things seen, and make some connections…maybe get some special orders. :-)
As mentioned above, it is also a chance to see what sells in this situation. ;) I have noted that it is a good idea to have some moderately priced bracelets, earrings, or simple necklaces for those who want something inexpensive but pretty.
I’m wondering if your husband is trying to protect your feelings from another let-down. You were pretty disappointed after the first one was rained out. Sometimes our guys are protective in ways we don’t quite “get.” ;)
Whatever you decide, I am hoping you have a great week end.

Very nice pick, Jeanne! And as far as the fair, go for it! If the vendor’s fee isn’t too much, might as well, right? :)

Ohhhhh, YUMMY, YUMMY!!! Great selection, Gem Chick!!! I absolutely LOVE this!!!!

  24. Anita QoG Funny Chick
    Anita QoG Funny Chick says:

Well, most shows we’ve been in have multiple jewelry sellers!! You just have to be confident in your product, and give it a try!!! I think we all have to get used to the competition, it seems to be getting to be more & more every year!! I hope this helps, Jeanne!!

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

Thanks all for your thoughts. I’m pretty sure I’m going to “go for it” as suggested by one and all. Hopefully, hubby will help with the heavy table and umbrella. (I’m not investing in better equipment till I know if shows are “my thing”)

And thanks for the compliments on the pick! Maybe I’ll make enough to buy some these beads. :)

  26. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Harriet has a good point about Larry trying to shield you from possible disappointment and hurt. Several times I have thought (erroneously) that Bob didn’t have faith in my talents and abilities to sell my jewelry, when it turns out that he was just trying to urge me to step back, be cautious, take my time, so that I didn’t end up disappointed. I used to just swallow my hurt feelings and now I come right out and ask what he really means — it’s helped clear the air in a good way! :D

Jeanne, I just did a show last weekend that got flooded out both days, and there were 35 jewelry vendors. I didn’t sell enough to make booth fee, but I did make good contacts. It never hurts to get your product and your name out there – and your pieces are gorgeous! I say go for it!
