Easter Egg Hunt 2012

Posted by Kevin on April 02 at 07:49 pm

The 2012 Easter egg hunt is here! This is the fourth annual hunt! If this will be your first Lima Beads Easter Egg Hunt, it’s simple. We’ve hidden Easter eggs (a lot of Easter eggs) on our web site. Find them and win beads, supplies, coupons and even gift certificates.

This year’s hunt is very similar to last year’s with two exceptions:

  1. We’ve tried to make the hunt a bit easier by not hiding eggs in any blog posts, designs or fresh picks that were created before 2012. So, you don’t need to go digging through thousands of blog posts, fresh picks and designs…
  2. Second, there’s a BIG twist this year. We’ve just launched a completely new web site. We’ve been working day and night to get it ready for the hunt, which is why the hunt launched a few days later than normal :) We hope you love it. We set out to make it as easy as possible to find what you’re looking for… Unless you’re looking for eggs. We hid those really well!

100 Easter Eggs

That’s right, there are 100 eggs hidden on the web site RIGHT NOW (plus an additional 3 special GOLDEN eggs). They’re scattered all over the Lima Beads web site. The only pages where you won’t find eggs is on blog posts, designs or fresh picks that were created before 2012. As you find eggs, you’ll see this status bar:

EEH Meter

We don’t want anyone to go crazy, so we should tell you up front: finding all the Easter eggs will be difficult. Some of them are very well hidden. It’s not really about finding ALL of the eggs this year, it’s about finding the most and getting to the top of the leaderboard!

The Leaderboard

Just like last year, there’s a leaderboard that shows the top 100 hunters. See the Leaderboard.

The more eggs you find, the more prizes you get. When you reach 10, 25, 35, 50, and 75 eggs a new set of prizes will be unlocked. You can choose from a variety of FREE beads and even a collection of coupons worth 15% – 20% off various items. There are also prizes associated with the Leaderboard. At the end of the Easter Egg Hunt, the top 10 people on the leaderboard will be entered to win The Grand Prize, a $250 Lima Beads Gift Certificate. Everyone else on the leaderboard will be entered to win second prize, a $100 Lima Beads gift certificate. See all the prizes.

The Golden Eggs

goldenEggThis year, we’re also hiding 3 special golden eggs (in addition to the 100 eggs, making a grand total of 103)… If you’re the very first one to find a golden egg, you’ll win a $25 Gift Certificate to our store! If the same person finds multiple golden eggs, that lucky beader will win one $25 gift certificate for each golden egg they find. Yowza! The golden eggs don’t count towards your leaderboard total, and you can keep an eye on who’s found the golden eggs on the leaderboard.

  • The contest ends at 11:59pm on April 8, 2012 (Easter). This means you need to make sure and do the following by this time:
    • Collect all the eggs you can find.
    • If you unlocked any prizes, add them to your shopping bag and place your order—all prizes (except the discount code explained below) must be redeemed by the end of the contest. Normal shipping rates will apply.
    • If you unlocked the coupon prize, write down your coupon code (you can use it any time until the end of 2012)
    • Watch the blog for an announcement about the $250 drawing
  • There are a total of 100 Easter eggs plus an additional 3 “golden” eggs that we’ve hidden for you to collect. Those are the only ones that count toward the prizes, and you must click on them to collect them. You might see some picture of eggs in promotional materials (like the ones in the grass at the top of this page)… those don’t count toward your total.
  • We can’t offer rain checks on the prizes, so make sure to place your order when you’ve unlocked the prizes, because they’re only available while supplies last!
  • We think we have enough free beads to go around… but in case we run short, we reserve the right to substitute a product of equal value as your prize (hey, it’s free, right?) :) . We can’t offer rain checks on unavailable prizes. We also reserve the right to update this list of rules if it needs clarification later.
  • Normal shipping rates apply. As much as we’d like to, we just can’t afford to give away free beads AND ship them for free too. If you add your prizes to an order over $40, you’ll get the same free shipping you always get (inside the USA). If your order is under $40, normal shipping rates will apply to it.
  • Please don’t share the locations of the eggs. This ruins the fun for everyone :) Also, you must find the eggs yourself–you can’t have a robot (or a computer) do it for you. Location sharers and robots will be disqualified from winning prizes! Gotta keep it fair for the rest of us!
  • The most important rule: have fun!

I absolutely LOVE the new and improved site!!! Kudos to Steve and everyone else who contributed to it! :D

I’ve been hunting for eggs for a wee bit over an hour — have found 33 & made it to #4 on the leaderboard. :D I’m sure when I wake up in the AM I’ll have dropped considerable in my ranking (perhaps even “off”).

Wishing tons of luck to all! If you’re a “newbie” to egg hunting, be sure to look everywhere possible, from every possible way, and don’t forget to dig as deep as possible!!! 8)

Congratulations Lynn Eileen, how exciting. I had a plan and it didn’t work. LOL, imagine that, very slow going for me. But that is okay, I cannot believe all the extremely cool things.:D Thank you Lima Beads for all the cool tutorials. I am all excited to learn again. I had lost hope that I could. Anyway, only 14 eggs tonight, and no Golden one in sight. But fun fun fun. Congratulations to all of you on the leaderboard. WOW your awesome!! have a great week. Thanks again Lima Beads for the Egg Hunt. It is SOOOOO Fun to participate.

OK, up to 36 now and off to bed….but first, some questions.

    1. There are several areas on the new/improved site which I can’t get into — no matter what I try. Will this change soon?

    2. I’ve clicked on 5 eggs that I’ve allegedly clicked on already, yet I know I haven’t because I write down all my “found” ones and their locations. Hmmmmm Several of us had this same problem last year. :(

    3. How do I find the “main page” where we can see other beader’s comments? Help! 8O

Lynn, I am finding that same problem. I even think I found a golden egg but it wont let me click on it. Maybe I’m crazy but it is frustrating to find one that you know you haven’t before and yet it says you have. :(

Good morning Lynn! You didn’t get much sleep… :)

We chose a fresh pick of the day, but the creator of the pick deleted it, so it’s not showing up :( Steve is choosing a new one right now. It will be available shortly.

I’m emailing you right now regarding egg issues. We’ve tested them and they’re all visible and working. I just need to see which ones you found that you thought were new, but were reported as already found. When that happened last year, the same egg was showing up in multiple locations, so after finding it the first time, it was reported as “already found” when clicked in another location. If there’s a problem, we’ll fix it right away!

    You’re right — I didn’t get much sleep…. 8O But then, I seldom do.

Glad to have — the “up” arrow at the bottom of each page now. Saves a TON of scrolling back up! 8)

Sad to lose — the links changing color once clicked on (see diamonddustshoe’s comment above).

    Thanks! :D

If you find one, you’ll know, it sticks to a similar spot from where you first see it to the next time you see it, and it’s the exact same design.

The only one I knew of for sure is getting fixed right now.

  40. Kevin
    Kevin says:

diamonddustshoe is absolutely correct. She did find one that was supposed to appear on a page 2 of something, but it was appearing on pages 1, 2, 3, etc. It was the same egg, so when someone found it on page 1 and then clicked it on page 2, it would say that it had already been found. The one she found has been fixed.

Hallucinating Helena – I just emailed you. If you send me links to the ones you think are stuck, we’ll check into them.

    Hi CY P.

There were two eggs earlier that were listed in more than one place. Those two have been fixed. I’ll email you right now. If you can send me the locations of the 5 you think are doing this, we’ll check them out right away. Most of the reported problems were just cases where there was more than one way to get to an egg and it seemed new, but wasn’t. We’ll investigate what you send us and if there’s another issue, we’ll fix it right away. Thanks!

    Kevin says:

    Hi all.

A quick update on missing, disappearing, or “stuck” eggs – we’ve still been unable to find any that have an actual problem with the exception of the two that were fixed yesterday morning.

If you think you’ve located a problem, please email me a link to where the egg is and a description of the problem at kevin@limabeads.com. We’ll look into each one right away.

We just fielded one request about an egg that may have been in 2 locations. In this case, the egg was found via shop by color and then later found again shopping by shape/size. It was the same egg, but it seemed new because it was found via two different paths. Most of the reported problems have been very similar to this one.

Please still send me any eggs you think may have a problem though. We will look into every one just to make sure they’re OK.

I’ll have an update in a little bit to tell you stats like: how many eggs have been found, which eggs haven’t been found, etc.

    Happy hunting!

This is the 3rd night (oh, it’s in the wee AM) I’ve stayed up after my hubby to egg hunt. My eyes lids are sagging, but there’s an addiction here that just makes me think I can find 1 more before I hang it up for the night.

    Mandollyn says:

OK… I lied… I’m officially addicted to trying to get to the 50 level!!! Now that I am at 29, I’m getting tired of looking at page after page of no eggs… :c(

Guess The rest of the eggs are tiny or buried DEEP in the metal items or Fresh Picks that I just don’t understand where to look on them.

  112. No Photo
    sewscrazy says:

yeah, me too…tired of looking and finding nothing! only found 4 eggs today… don’t know what the secret is for where to look…but wish I could find at least 21 more…eyes are tired–gotta stop for now :(

  113. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

If it helps anyone at all:
Make sure you’re scrolling *ALL THE WAY* to the bottom of the page.
Try moving from general to specific, like from main heading pages to “type” pages then to product pages then to product specifics. Change areas periodically, like if you’re looking in metals, go back to the blog, then to supplies, etc., so your brain doesn’t get totally numb. Keep a record of where you’ve been, because even if it seems you shouldn’t need to on Monday, you’ll be glad you did by Saturday night. Mostly, though, if it’s clickable, it’s “eggable.” :)

  114. Mandollyn
    Mandollyn says:

I guess my MAIN question is… “Other than anything prior to Jan 1, 2012… Is there anywhere else that is pointless to search?”

I would like to see their answer to that, Mandollyn, but experience so far is telling me the answer is probably no.

How deep are you searching? It can be tedious and require lots of patience (especially in the findings), but you do kind of have to click *everything*.

  117. tigerlily
    tigerlily says:

Product specifics? Last year I found 70 something before I gave up, and none of them were in product specifics……

  118. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

By specifics I mean clicking things like bigger photo, “see it from the side,” size chart, etc.? If you never clicked any of those anywhere, that’s where your other 30 were. ;)

  119. tigerlily
    tigerlily says:

Oh my gosh, REALLY?!? Well, I’m giving up right now then. I can’t believe the last 30 I didn’t find could be hidden among literally what amounts to millions and millions of products details. That’s just too much.

  120. No Photo
    D McCaskill says:

I’m getting frustrated too!!! I’m stuck at 35 eggs and there’s just SO much to click on!!! I can’t sit in front of the computer ALL day!! I’m trying to at least get to 50 but I’ve done so much better in the years past…. :(

  121. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

Well, I can tell you this year I have run into far fewer of those so far that previous times it seems, but I’m only just now getting into digging that deep. I comb the site in layers, and if an area has several eggs already, I know to “deep search” it last because I probably won’t find anything. Am I going to look at 996 pages of TOHO before I’m done and click everything there? Yes. But then again, I’m nuts, so your mileage may vary. :D

  122. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

    Hmm. Eep.
Well, the idea is to have fun, right? I don’t want to discourage anyone. I would definitely say to window shop and you’ll probably get lucky more often than you think.

  123. Kevin
    Kevin says:

    Hi Everyone.

I can tell you for sure that there are nowhere near 30 eggs hidden in product detail popups (like size chart, more photos, etc.) There might be a few, but not close to 30.

We’re working on something right now that will make prizes easier to get. The hunt seems to be a bit harder this year than last year. With the new web site launching, it was difficult for us to gauge the difficulty. Next year will be a bit easier! More similar to previous years.

    More to come…

  124. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

I didn’t mean to imply there were that many, sorry! There are even less of them this time it seems, than before.

I am finding it simultaneously easier and harder. It’s kind of weird. I am up for the challenge because I wanted to beat my total for last year, but I do worry a little about having enough time.

  125. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

(I should have said “out of your other 30, some were there.”)

  126. Snowy
    Snowy says:

I appreciate these comments Diamond and Kevin. it is a bit discouraging when you can’t sit here for hours. And I have been clicking deep…so to speak. No signs of golden eggs…do you remove those when they are found?
I am enjoying the site, and appreciate the intermittent prizes per eggs found..and appreciate Lima Beads giving us a contest to play…but as a newbie must say it is a bit discouraging….

  127. tigerlily
    tigerlily says:

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound discouraging either. I think I will give up (or if giving up sounds discouraging, my GOAL is to) stop at 75. I was just completely clueless that eggs were hidden in product details. I definitely do window shop as I’m hunting, as in, if something catches my eye, I click the product details. But for things that I really don’t use or need, I don’t want to click the “bigger photo” to find an egg. I rarely do that even if I plan on ordering the item I’m looking at. I’;m not really discouraged…. I just thought that would be impossible for someone to find 100 eggs if they are hidden in every single nook and cranny. Since some people do, in fact, find all 100, I thought that it was a possible feat. But maybe those who find all 100 just sit at their computers every day all day til Easter. I’m not sure. Anyhow, since the most of this comment still sounds pretty negative, I would like to say none of this is meant to be a complaint… I think this hunt is amazing fun. Not only is it wonderful free stuff (I hardly ever see other sales websites do something like this.. what business wants to give away something they make money for?) but it is a useful tool for the consumers and business alike. I know I’m not the only one who will buy beads to go along with the free ones. So, kudos to Lima beads for putting so much hard work into this. I’m sorry if it sounded like I was complaining… no, I think its awesome that you guys have this hunt every year. I was looking forward to it this year after my little bag of goodies last year. Even after buying a few things I could afford, it wasn’t a huge shopping spree I was ashamed of. It surely could have been. ;0)

I am just struggling to stay on the leaderboard, it is getting so hard! I think it is a *little* too difficult, I only found 2 yesterday! But on the bright side, looking at all these wonderful beads is really inspiring me to create new and amazing things!

  129. No Photo
    D McCaskill says:

apparently “complaining” works because I found 2 eggs after my last comment…I just want to at least get 50!! I look forward to this every year so I hope it continues…maybe it just needs a few tweaks!! :)

  130. Snowy
    Snowy says:

@Tiger….I am glad you made your post, as it is encouraging to know I am not the only one getting frustrated. And no, Lima Beads, it’s not a complaint..its a ventilate
I am finding goodies to add to my stash, keep checking the green machine..and clicking. I think my vent comes from clicking bigger size, size chart, etc. on all the beads and not finding “any” eggs. I did just find an egg, by “accident”. A great way for your customers to learn about the new site. Thank you for having this. There would not be any winners if there were not losers

@ Loretta…this is my first hunt too. I’m frustrated and discouraged about not finding many…after hours of sifting through so many pages…I found 4 yesterday…I cannot sit here for hours either. It is a really difficult hunt… *sigh* It has been fun to sort through the new site–love it! Have already placed one order–yes, I’m sure that is part of the business strategy–because we cannot in many cases we feel like we love these new “finds” to add to the stash! I have found some items that I cannot wait to get–because it has opened up ideas in designing pieces :) Thanks LB!!

But, as to the hunt…it is discouraging…I’m trying to get to 50…and have been searching methodically and by layers… thanks for a chance to chat and “vent” as well

  140. Kevin
    Kevin says:

It seems that the Easter Egg Hunt is a bit more difficult this year than in previous years. As you may know, we launched an entirely new web site at the same time we started this year’s hunt. This made it tough for us to gauge how hard it would be to find the eggs. Because it’s a bit more difficult this year, we’ve just added an extra prize level at 35 eggs! This level is open to everyone, so if you’ve already found more than 35, you can go back and choose one of these new prizes. If you gave up after 25, you can get more prizes after finding just 10 more eggs. Good luck and yes, we’ll make the hunt a little easier next year :)

I usually do really well on the Egg Hunt, but this year I am doing pitifully — I haven’t found anything since Tuesday afternoon and am stuck at 43! I can’t believe I am somehow still on the leaderboard!!! :?

I’ve been “digging deep” and am getting so frustrated — On one hand, I love the improved site. On the other hand, it has made it harder for me to search in a pattern (my strategy). :(

I did notice the “surprise” on the prize page, Kevin — thanks! :D

Like many others, I’ve been scrolling to the bottom on each & every page — sure am getting tired of that bright green area at the bottom! LOL! ;)

Like Mandollyn and others, I have found some eggs that weren’t there the first time I checked a page. I hate to have to recheck certain areas…..YIKES!

BTW, I found a gold egg the first day, but it had already been discovered by another egg hunter. It doesn’t go away once it has been found, but also doesn’t count toward your total if you happen across it. :)

Was feeling sort of bummed about the whole thing earlier today and then you all listed the “special buy” crystal and pearls. These are even better than prizes! The new lists you all have put together the last few weeks have been amazing! My personal favorite was the one all about color. I swore I was done shopping for a while until today but the crystals and pearls were calling dor me. I think I wanted most of them, but since my husband insists on eating and having running water, I winnowed it down exceptionally well. I love the special buys – except when they are all gone:)

I was exhausted after so much searching tonight so I laid my head on the desk for a few minutes and drifted off into a light slumber. While sleeping, I dreamed Lima Beads sold wrist supports for carpal tunnel. Seriously???? Yes. I am taking this as a sign that I should stop hunting. LOL

It’s not any fun unless you get rewarded every once in awhile and if I can look through more than 600 hundred items within several major categories without finding one egg, the game doesn’t hold my interest. I think I’ll eat some chocolate ice cream instead of hunting for eggs.

Good luck everyone! I wish you the best ~

I would agree with the comments, fun egg hunt to a point, but VERY frustrating. I am at 51 eggs, and I can’t take anymore. I am a perfectionist, and VERY organized and methodical in every thing I do, so my approach to this hunt was the same, start at the first drop down menu, work your way through each item. I went through products, and I mean EVERY single click possible, and I went for hours with no eggs at all. That takes the fun out of the hunt completely. Maybe next year hide 100′s of eggs or 1000 eggs and whoever finds the most wins? I would rather be finding more eggs in more places, than looking literally hundreds of places for 1 egg. Please don’t think I am complaining, I am happy that Lima put the hunt on, the prizes are great, but WAY TOO HARD!! I have kept track of my time and I am embarrassed to tell you how many hours I spent on this computer, that is valuable beading time for someone like me who runs her own business off of the pieces I make and sell. I wasn’t here last year, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but if I were to try for the 100 it would take (based on my found eggs and time spent looking) it would take me an average of 280 more hours to find the last 49 eggs!! WHAT??? Yes, it’s true, do the math, if you find one egg in an average of 3 hours you would spend 300 hours looking for eggs!! WOW!! So…I LOVE the idea, but the prizes are not worth 300 hours of my time. Sorry ! It is now 1:49am (my time)..I have been looking since 7pm, with no breaks, my eyes are burning, my wrist hurts, and I have found 2 eggs. I normally do not quit ANYTHING I start, but I have to throw in the towel on this one. Sorry. Maybe next year Lima, think about making this less difficult, and more fun! Again, at least if you are finding eggs, even every 10-15 minutes, it’s enough to keep you interested and looking, by reading all of the comments, it sounds to me like more people are quitting and frustrated, rather than anything else. Just a thought !

I guess I don’t understand. If we click on a page that an egg is hidden on then it will tell us we found an egg?

Or somehow we have to click on the egg? So far if I click on a picture the picture closes. ROFL

I don’t want a hint on where to go… just wondering how you get the eggs?? Do you have to click on something egg shaped? The word EGG on the screen…. Or is it just as you land on a page you get an egg?

To J Galla…..when you find an egg, you have to click on it, they look just like the 2 eggs that are in the banner ad for the egg hunt, they are the size of a quarter, only egg-shaped, and you must click on them, then a pop-up screen comes up and says “You found an egg!!” and shows you what your total is, etc,

comforting to read others are having equal difficulty finding the eggs. This is my first egg hunt. It has been fun but has now become extremely frustrating and I question why I keep at it. Found 37 in 3 days. 2 in the last 24 hrs. It has been fun seeing all the different stuff, shapes, sizes, colors, and uses but it is taking away from my beading time.

I’ll give it another day they call it quits.

I think of all the unclicked links as unscratched lottery tickets. The more of them I click, the better chance of winning of an egg. For certain, though, I am winning the lottery of finding beautiful things I didn’t know were here, and all the ideas coming from it. (A page of notes a full cart later…)

  204. diamonddustshoe

I think part of what we’re seeing is that the site has grow exponentially each year, which lengthens the time between finding eggs once you get to deeper hidden eggs. Since that’s the biggest complaint, it seems, I like the idea mentioned of actually hiding more. Like 150. You’ll run into them more often, and there’s more around for quicker/easier to find eggs. This leaves the crazy people (me) with their challenge, but everyone else doesn’t have to go crosseyed. Oh well, that’s just me, I’ll look forward to the next one regardless. :)

Here’s something that really surprises me about these comments. In the past hunts (2009-2011), we’ve not been allowed to give ANY hints as to where to search (which sections of the site, where on pages, etc.). LB must have relaxed the rules, at least for this year.

Lynn Eileen, That is so funny that your husband offered to give you $5 if you quit. I started laughing out loud when I read that. My husband asked me what was so funny and when I told him, he laughed too. It’s really pitiful what we are doing to ourselves. I don’t care, though. I look forward to this every year, but it does tend to bring out my OCD with a vengeance.

I can’t take this anymore either. This is my first Easter egg hunt and I’m at 40 eggs. I didn’t realize how far into each page I have to go to find them all. I hate to give up but there are just soooooooooooooo many pages that eggs can be on it makes me wanna cry. When I read that there was a possibility that they could be in the pop-ups AFTER I had spent hours looking was really frustrating to find out. Would be nice to have a tally of how many eggs are in each section so we know not to waste more time looking for non-existent eggs. I did enjoy this egg hunt overall and the website looks great. Grats to all who find eggs and to the winners.

Once the hunt is over and the winners announced, LB posts a listing here of the locations (down to the last details) of all the eggs, regular and golden! :D Then the groaning and sobbing will begin on our part. 8O

    diamonddustshoe says:

Thank you. I had the experience of doing the previous hunts, and that helped a lot. Other than that…yes, I spent an embarrassing amount of time hunting this year. I put in more that what would qualify for overtime at a full time job. And I only got done with covering the site completely one full time yesterday. Since most people don’t have this kind of time, backwards sleep schedule, thing keeping them at home, or sheer level of insanity, I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to hit the two big sections and have it take 900 years between eggs. It took me a full day just to do the seed beads (which I can’t even look at now.) I would say 20 came from experience, 15 from just sheer dumb luck, and the rest from methodical, persistent slogging. This year’s round was really something else, indeed.

Well, I really appreciate that Lima is so good about trying to provide opportunities for their customers for fun and some great deals on beads, but for this grandma, it was just too hard this year to be fun. It was challenging last year, but every time I told myself I had to quit, I found another egg. I finally packed it in at 50 eggs, but by then, I had earned some great prizes and had really had fun. This year, however, I spent a good chunk of time and only found 7 :( The good news is that it was so hard that it was easy to realize that I just did not have the time or energy to continue. I will look forward to next year because I know there ill be another creative contest, but one which may be a touch less difficult. But I still love the great beads, new products, challenging new ideas, the outstanding service and all of the fabulous perks available to Lima Beads’ customers!

I’m with Elis Mom – I looked for blue gemstones, and there was something wrong. It has been a while since I have been on the site. I also want to give another heartfelt “Thank you” to LB. I sold my dream house last Fall through a short sale. My hubby and I moved from a 2500 sf. house to an 1100 sf. condo. I think it was part depression and part having a very messy, cluttered office and workspace. Well, this egg hunt has sparked my passion again. This year hunting was more difficult just because of the sheer size of the site, so, as one of the diehard Egg Hunt fans, I like the idea of hiding MORE eggs next year, so it’s not so frustrating for the people who don’t have a lot of time to look, yet there will be plenty of the more difficult eggs for those of us who are totally insane Egg Hunters. I LOVE the Egg Hunt, and I remember when there were only like 10 or 12 eggs hidden. I love it more now that there are more eggs – and more great prizes – thank you Limabeads! My first egg hunt and I never spent much time on your previous site so I can’t compare this site to the last or this year to the last, but I like the site. Clean, well-organized. If I had to guess I’d say there might be more levels with the new one because there were a lot of clicks to get to some of those eggs. :-) At a certain point I just rebelled. On the other hand, I also made my first order and bought a bunch of brass, which I’ve never used before. I’ll be back for ribbon and alcohol inks at some point.

I second the idea of providing feedback — maybe when someone clicks an egg a popup says, “There are X number of eggs left in (whatever) category, based on the menu items across the top navigation bar. That wouldn’t really be telling us too much, and it could help with the frustration level. The whole clicking in the wilderness aspect got to me big time in some areas. Just an idea.

At any rate, you got yourself another customer and I got a way to get my mind off my back. I hope you think it’s a fair deal. I sure do!

Well off to start a new day. Happy Easter everyone.

This was my first time doing the egg hunt. I jumped in late Friday so excited about this idea.

I understood immediately the purpose, this greatly helps to have people on the site a LONG time. Your stats I am sure are amazing, and having people searching EVERY page means many people found things they love and added them to their cart.

I actually had a pile in my cart. And sad to say I became so completely frustrated with the setup that I decided it wasn’t worth anymore money. My time is money and boy did I waste a boatload. I really regret jumping in.
Clearly that is my fault, but I didn’t realize they would be so deep into the pages.

I am taking my free prizes and running. I will check back next year if I think of it. Because I will be curious if it is different.

But I am really frustrated right now.

Thanks to Lims Beads – I am a new customer who was lured in by the Egg Hunt – I saw the Face Book ad! (and have seen it like a bajillion times since!)

Thanks for the free prizes and codes, LB! I do agree with the others who resent having to pay for the shipping to receive their freebies — then they’re not quite so “free.” I bought less items during this Egg Hunt than in past years — probably because I knew the value of the prizes and figured my time wasn’t worth that amount! LOL 8O

While I do enjoy the hunts (especially the first in 2009 — I made so many dear friends that year!), this year’s took up waaaaay too much time while yielding very little reward. Still glad I stopped searching on Wednesday — Hubby gave me the $5, so I stopped at 45 eggs! :D

    Mandollyn says:

J Galla – I understand your frustration, but the Post Office didn’t offer free shipping to Lima Beads… I hope you understand.

I am hoping to run up a $40 tab so the shipping is free… LOL (Or I could buy what I want and save a ton on Purchase vs. shipping!)

LB, Just wanted to say Thank You for another great Easter Egg Hunt. Had so much fun. Was hoping to get to 75, had to stop at 69. So looking forward to receiving my prizes and the few extra’s that I’m adding to my stash.
P.S. Don’t let the nay sayers get to you. It was a great hunt, just sounds like sour grapes from some of the players. They obviously forgot the last rule of the hunt and that was to have FUN!!!!!

I find it hard to believe that anyone is complaining about LB! If you don’t want to pay the shipping, then don’t play the game. If all you’re after is the freebies, then consider finding them elsewhere, but I guarantee you won’t be as satisfied as you would be here at LB. They go to a lot of trouble to make this site one that you will enjoy and feel a part of. It’s not just a bead site that takes your order and ships it out. They actually want to please their customers and have excellent customer service! Their shipping rates are low and your order arrives quickly. You can count on receiving your order within 2-3 days, which I certainly appreciate. Design Gallery, The Fresh Picks, and the Egg Hunt are just a few of the ways they have of bringing us together with our fellow beaders to enjoy our craft and communicate with each other. The quality of their products and their service far surpasses the other bead sites, including the one mentioned earlier. They are ALWAYS polite and considerate(unlike many other bead sites online) and work to make sure you are satisfied with your order. Please don’t complain about LB if you don’t know what you’re talking about. They are the best!

I found this egg search to be somewhat difficult at times. I tried my very best and my grand total of eggs found hit the thirty mark. How anybody could find the entire 100 eggs is beyond me. I was reading the comments and some feel it may have been a little one sided. I haven’t a clue; however, I’m still amazed that some found more than others. I searched just about every nook and cranny on Lima’s website tooth and nail. I still came up with only 30 eggs. I’m thankful for the gift coupon with I have redeemed for gemstones. Lima is just one of the few bead estores that have contests. Which is kinda nice. I just wish I could have found more eggs. It was very difficult !!! For a new customer as I am, I do think I just may skip next years egg hunt. By the time you search on the computer your eyes as well as your
patience becomes stressed out looking for those eggs. And forget about the golden ones. Before I even knew about the golden ones..two of them were already found !! Never had the chance on that part of the contest. Now, I’d say that was very unfortunate. Sometimes you bite the bear and sometimes the bear bites you. OUCH !!!

I had fun. I got sucked into last year’s hunt. I didn’t make it onto the leaderboard last year, but have managed to make it this year. I do agree that there needs to be more eggs, or a more limited search area, and not hiding the eggs in the detail pictures. I too would like to see a prize claim delay (it takes time away from finding those last minute eggs) All in all not too bad. Thanks for the grownup egg hunt. :)

I enjoy the LB egg hunt as it gives us ‘adults’ some fun – but like many others, I too wish the prizes could be claimed AFTER the end of the contest. I’ll be honest, I missed mine because I was looking for last minute eggs – I only needed 2 more to get on the leaderboard! Also, I had to scramble to find out what time zone the end time was for – found it in the blog, but come on! There are four times zones in the US, just posting “The contest ends at 11:59pm on April 8, 2012 (Easter)” isn’t very helpful…

Hi LB, just wanted to say thank you for my lovely freebies and that the new site is fantastic!
I live in the UK and stumbled across Lima a few years ago, it quickly became my go to place for beads, not only for the quality of the beads, the customer service and the price! (the beads are generally cheaper than over here and thats including the shipping!!) but also for the promos, design ideas and the community that the website creates. It is without doubt the most fun, creative and addictive website of any I have ever come across.
As to all you moaning minnies, my sister (who works as a waitress) once had a customer who, after ordering a salad complained that there was too much salad in his salad…

Nope… eggs are removed! I guess I can say that the eggs that surprised me were:

3 Different ones in the My Account links
The one on the tiny avatar in the Design gallery
The one that popped out on the “Shop Artists” page
and the one on the “My Wishlist” page that appeared after I FINALLY added my FIRST Wishlist item!!!

Thanks again LB for keeping it frustrating… I mean FUN! Let’s do this again SOON!

  389. S Estrada
    S Estrada says:

I had fun – but it was a bit frustrating to find the eggs since they were pretty well hidden. And then to take them off immediately without telling everyone where they’re at so we can go see for ourselves??? Well that’s a bummer. I did find some things to buy though so I’ll get my freebies. I wouldn’t have bothered either for $4.95. My one suggestion on the website is on the crystals page. If I open up several colors they stay open – which is good. However if I click for details on one and then hit “back” on my browser all the choices are closed again – I don’t get back to my previous state with several colors open. Kind of annoying since I then have to click on the colors again to get those open that I want open.

Thanks for a fun, if frustrating, search. And where were those gold eggs? I found one last year – haven’t a clue where any were this year.

  390. FaeryGoth Chick
    FaeryGoth Chick says:

A lot of commotion this year… Well of course this is a pure marketing strategy. No better way to promote the new website :-) I think everybody knows that. The egg hunt always results in fun and frustration. This year was extremely difficult. The first year I found 75 eggs, last year 50 and this year only 37. But what causes a lot more frustration is the leader board. While looking at it, so many unfamiliar names pop up, names that only appear once a year if you catch my drift… LB has a great community with loyal customers. Sometimes I feel the loyal and returning customers should be rewarded in stead of an annual egg hunt that attracts many once a year visitors. Not that there is anything wrong with, it’s a choice that LB makes. As for the complaints about the shipping costs. Get over it! I live in Belgium, I have to pay shipping each and every time (11,95 USD)! US residents get free shipping when placing an order over 40 USD, I never get that. It would be nice if they would do something simular for foreign customers but the situation is what it is. If you don’t accept it, don’t order. You know the easter egg hunt is coming, save an order and place it then, together with your free beads.
LB has great products and the people are indeed really friendly and helpful. I always like shopping here :-)

  391. Karokat
    Karokat says:

Whoa! I can’t believe some people didn’t read the Rules at the very beginning, otherwise they would have known that shipping isn’t free unless you purchase a total of $40 of stuff. The Rules said, and I quote: “Normal shipping rates apply. As much as we’d like to, we just can’t afford to give away free beads AND ship them for free too. If you add your prizes to an order over $40, you’ll get the same free shipping you always get (inside the USA). If your order is under $40, normal shipping rates will apply to it.” Everyone should have read the rules, then if the shipping is a dealbreaker for you, just don’t participate in the contest.

I’m a big fan of the Egg Hunt, and I’d be happy to participate if I only had a chance at the Grand Prize. The free beads are just a bonus to me – and let’s not forget about the coupon you got when you found 25 eggs. No one seems to ever think of that, or consider it when they’re complaining about the shipping charge. You can use the coupon to avoid shipping charges – either now or later! If your coupon is for 15% off, and you place a $40 order of whatever your coupon is for, you’ll get $6 off – more than enough to compensate you for the $4.95 in shipping that you paid for your bead prizes – and behold! Your bead prizes are then free and clear, and over and above the shipping amount! If you’re a beader, spending $40 isn’t going to be a problem. Making it to 25 eggs in a reasonable amount of time really wasn’t that difficult in my opinion. Maybe for first-time folks, there could be an example page of the types of hiding places to search in.

This year was a little harder than prior years because of the size of the site, and the gold eggs were already found by the time I saw that the contest had started, but I’m sure those things will be fixed for next year. But for heaven’s sake, folks, if you weren’t having fun, you should have stopped looking!

  392. Karokat

    Well said, Rosebud!

  393. Karokat
    Karokat says:

Just a note about people “popping up once a year” – I know there are a bunch of names I don’t recognize, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t loyal customers. They could be ordering stuff all year, but not everyone has the time or energy or inclination to submit designs, or make Fresh Picks and comment on them. I’m disabled and sometimes there are months at a time that I can’t even sit up for more than a few minutes at a time. I’m sure there are other people like me, and probably some who are just too busy most of the year, but when they have a chance, they bead like crazy – or hunt for Lima eggs (like teachers who have the week before Easter off – just in time for the egg hunt). And then there are some people who might be “lurkers” (especially men who are jewelry makers) who just aren’t “joiners”, and they’d feel really out of place with a bunch of chicks! There might also those who just don’t have enough money to order frequently, and they don’t want to torture themselves by looking at all of Lima’s cool stuff if they can’t buy it. All of these people could be loyal customers, and are perfectly entitled to participate in the Egg Hunt or any other contest. Just because we don’t recognize the names doesn’t mean that the Lima folks don’t. They would know if someone just shows up and grabs free beads once a year – I think we should let them make the “customer loyalty” decision.

Obsession – Addiction – Frustration – Welcome to the bead hunt, no… that was the egg hunt, wasn’t it… I get confused – am I looking for eggs or for beads? Perhaps this was harder than it usually is, but it is still the egg hunt – it gets us out of our comfort zone and into areas we don’t normally visit. This year I learned that Vintaj Arte Metal is not black colored brass, but some sort of iron alloy – with no lead!

Not sure if the staff are evil geniuses at marketing, or just good guys who want to create a fun atmosphere. If you are of the gambling persuasion – DO NOT – I repeat – DO NOT visit the Big Green Bead Machine. It is fun. It is gambling. It is addictive – I have to check it every five minutes.. Do I get the Bronzite beads now at 18% off, or wait to see if I can get them for 24% off – and risk losing them… I have spent way too much money on the BGBM, but I have also saved a ton of cash in the process. AND LOST out on bargins because I wanted the price to go lower, and I waited and someone else got the last strand. OR, I got sidetracked with something else, and forgot to go back in the next five minute cycle. You have to learn to let go when dealing with the BGBM – there is a time limit – sad to say I have lost great deals because I did not get back in time to finalize the cart. That is just the way it is – and the way is different from other stores.

Maybe we all have that lima-bead-cult glazed over look in our eyes at this time of year, but I would not trade Lima Beads for half the tea in China. Now if someone offered me all the beads in China, I might have to reconsider… I have two favorite bead sites – Lima Beads is one and the other one recommends Lima Beads as one of the “Good Guys.” I think I have had one disappointment in 26 orders and that was rectified with one quick phone call. Lima Beads is different from other online bead stores. That difference may not appeal to some people, but it appeals to me. There is a sense of ownership among the regular customers – not just company loyalty, but ownership…

Each year we learn lessons – wasn’t last years lesson that there is a difference between 12 noon and 12 midnight? We just have to hang loose and go with the flow. The goal is not to get free beads for no shipping cost, but to add free beads to our $40 order – which gets us free shipping [sorry for those of you outside the USA who don't qualify] – and to explore the web site. There are over 10,000 fresh picks – what other site gives you a place to experiment with color without buying the beads – and then the opportunity to display those experiments publicly? And if the egg hunt gets someone new to look at those fresh picks in hopes of finding another egg – then go for it!

I love you guys at Lima Beads – you aren’t perfect – that just makes you more lovable and human. You do a fantastic job!

Just wanted to say a few things to you all: yes, I spent many hours looking, but I always do. I set aside the time ahead of time because I knew it was coming and I enjoy the challenge. I knew what was ahead of me and didn’t even feel this year was harder until I got to the beads and understood what happened(I worked from the right side of the green categories bar to the left.)

The eggs, at least those I saw, were not buried any “deeper” than they ever have been. The problem was the distribution, in that there’s tons more pages to spread the same number of eggs over. That’s why you see some of us asking for *more* eggs. The area that used to be the biggest chunk of the site, the one where I guess many people may have started, only yielded TWO eggs to me this time (I may have missed one, but *still*). This is where we felt the expansion of the site the most. You get the feel that each type of area has at least one egg “all the way in,” right? Right or wrong, you’re faced with 990 something kinds of seed beads. At five clicks a piece to check each page. I saved this section for last. That was the only point when I really sorely missed those three days we lost at the start.

You have to admit it’s a wonderful time to show everyone the new layout and have it become second nature to them to navigate in a relatively short span of time. For all the changes made on top of the eggs being up…you really have to take your hat off to the fact there were no hard glitches once it took off, even despite the stampede of traffic. Awesome.

And if you read the rules, it states more than once that “regular shipping rates apply.” You should know *going in* that you would need to pay shipping. I simply plan one of my shopping trips to coincide with the contest, since I know I’ll be finding neat things along the way. To keep focused, I just put things in my cart as I pass them, then sort the cart at the end into “now” and “wish list for next time.” I also kept a little page of notes on projects ideas I had along the way, which is really the best part, and boy does the Fresh Picks button make it easy to gather stuff for ideas and see it together.

As for Priority Mail, there are lots of good reasons to use it. You pay less for boxes of heavy beads with flat rates, and they save time. It automatically generates a tracking number (the PO won’t really talk to you without one, plus you get to track your own package), and it’s (a lot) less likely to get lost (basing this on experience). Plus the USPS gives the boxes out for free, which means that cost doesn’t get passed to you either. You’ll notice they don’t tack on $10 extra surprise dollars in “handling” like *other* people do? AND you get your order FAST. I smile when I click that option.

Focus on the positive: there might be more area to search, but then, there’s more area to search! One stop shopping. :) And we’re even promised the hunt will be better next year. Happy Easter, everyone.

    Still making that egg necklace…

I had fun. I’m glad it’s over, because I’m seeing eggs when I close my eyes, but I still got 3 strings of beads and some great deals. Of course my wish list grew by tons this year, and if I *were* to win a GC of any denomination, I’m not sure that it would cover but a small part of the wish list, but hey, that’s why it’s called a “wish” list and not a “shopping” list ;)

Hi everyone. Well, the hunt is officially over. We’ll be announcing winners, some egg locations, and stats soon!

To address everyone’s concerns about the shipping fees, again, we’re sorry we can’t offer free shipping on the prizes. Please rest assured, we do not make any profit on the shipping fees. Priority mail has actually gone up recently. We pay $5.15 for it but still only charge $4.95. We tried to make it very clear in the rules that normal shipping rates apply. We use priority mail because it is more reliable, faster, and has delivery confirmation.

Thanks for hunting! More to come soon…

It makes me sad to see so many people complaining about something that should have been a fun experiance. I am from South Africa and am one of those who pays shipping everytime I order, which I have been doing regularly since I found this site last year. So I plan ahead and I will make sure I have a wishlist waiting just before next years hunt. Its no hardship as the beads etc. are of excellent quality, reasonably priced and this is the only site I have found that will sell a half string of beads so one is not left with a surplus gathering dust.So many say they lost out on the freebies, well read the rules carefully before you start(if you are old like me do it more than once, I did and I still nearly missed the cut off time). Be grateful that the LB team make the effort to keep things interesting all year through (crossword puzzles, halloween houses), I have not found any other beading site that goes to all that trouble. Enough said.
I had fun, the most important thing when all is said and done and hope next year you all will too whether it is one egg that you find or the 88 that diamonddust found. congratulations and well done to everyone.

Thanks to all the LIma folks for another great Egg Hunt!!! It certainly was a challenge this year – I fell asleep last night with my computer in hand between one click and the next – but I enjoyed learning my way around the new site, and found lots of beautiful new products in the process of obsessively clicking for eggs. I think we all understand that this obviously has marketing benefits for Lima, they are after all running a business. But it is also a benefit for those of us who order from Lima – and fun besides! I really appreciate the quality of the beads, which I have learned that I can trust to appear EXACTLY as pictured on the website (or even better!). This is a real problem with many other bead sites, as I have found out the hard way. The excellent service, as well as all the extras on the website, such as Egg Hunts, Crossword Sales, etc. are an added bonus for those of us lunatics who enjoy those things, So thanks again Lima, it was fun, can’t wait to get my prizes and to find out where the rest of those wretched eggs were hiding!

I wanted to thank Karokat for her remark. I use the site all the time but I hardly ever post anything. I’m also disabled but employed full time in a demanding job. Both the computer and iPad hurt, just not in the same places. This morning I hurt a lot. I I got way too obsessive about the hunt. Ironically, I’ve never hunted for a real egg in my life. Also, Pesach started the last two days. By the way, if you are keeping Pesach, they put treats in the boxes, so I asked specifically not to put one in mine because it would arrive during Pesach. I’m glad the clock ran down. I found the golden egg in the shell pearls.
