Easter Egg Hunt 2015

Posted by Kevin on March 30 at 04:48 pm

UPDATE: The results have been posted!

The time has come for the 7th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lima Beads! We’re egg-shausted from a long weekend of egg hiding… and we hope you have fun this year : ) Just like the previous hunt, we have $2,000 in gift certificates that we’re giving away to the top hunters! :) And, we’ve made some changes to our website this year that we hope will keep everything nice and snappy. Read more about the hunt below, or check out the Hunt Page to get started!

The Basics

We’ve scattered 200 Easter eggs all over our website. The more eggs you find, the more prizes you get! We have a leaderboard to track the progress of all the egg hunters, and the top 100 hunters will all get gift certificates! The hunt lasts all week, and ends at 11:59pm Pacific time on Easter (April 5).

The Prizes

We have 5 different levels of prizes this year! You have to find at least 10 eggs to get your first prize, and you can unlock additional prizes after finding 25, 50, 75, and 100 eggs (for seriously insane egg hunters only) :) PLUS, we’re giving away a $20 gift certificate to every single hunter on the leaderboard when the hunt ends–just lke last year! Keep an eye on the leaderboard and read more about the prizes on the Hunt page.

The Rules

We have detailed rules and some FAQs on the hunt page, so we suggest you check those out. There are a few things we want you to know, however. When you place an order to redeem your prizes, normal shipping rates apply (as low as $2 for U.S. customers). We have lots of great gifts this year, but we can’t guarantee they will all be available when the hunt ends on Sunday. So place your orders early to make sure you get the gifts you want!

What are you waiting for? Start hunting!

The hunt is on, everyone! Sorry for the delay today–we had a little straightening up to do with our website : ) Happy hunting, and we’re egg-cited to see how everyone does this year!

    Mary - Sweet Chick says:

Steve, I’ve found an egg that does nothing when I click on it. And yes, it is an actual hidden egg not a promo egg. Should I e-mail you to let you know which one it is or is there just a temporary glitch?

  3. Steve
    Steve says:

Hi Mary, yes you can email me about that. We tested every single egg today and they all appear to be working. So it sounds like it may be a temporary glitch :)

  4. No Photo
    Mary - Sweet Chick says:

    Oh dear, Steve, another glitch…..
I’ve found one that keeps telling me I’ve found it already. I know I haven’t. (Also there is no check mark on it.) Sorry to be such a bother.
    Thanks Steve!! :-)

Disregard my last comment….the check mark finally showed up. :-|

Quick question, are there eggs on the view all or not? It’s not 100% clear on that in the FAQs.

    Froggy Sarah says:

OMG here we go… eggs in all directions!!! :)

  9. Rachel-A
    Rachel-A says:

Agree with Caroline H – sorry LB but it’s unclear to me too in the FAQs if there are eggs on the ‘View All’ pages or not – you refer to egg locations on ‘view all’ pages being revealed on the Blog – so does that relate to last year’s hunt?

  10. Steve
    Steve says:

We’ll work on some better language for that “view all” question and have it posted soon. Thanks for your feedback!

Hi, I just tried to post, saying I thought this was a “hour”test, rather than a contest, and they blocked me!

    L boncher says:

and p.s. I really like Lima Beads- but this is about how much time you can spend, not any challenge.

    Thanks Steve.

    J Bolland says:

L boncher: True, if you have a lot of spare time on your hands, you will likely be among the top egg finders. But, at as few as 10 eggs, you will receive a prize. As far as marketing, this contest is genius! It gets people sorting through pages of merchandise and seeing things they would like to purchase that they may not have found otherwise. Plus, it’s fun! Thanks, Lima crew, for all your hard work on this every year!

  15. Retired Donna
    Retired Donna says:

I may be retired, but that doesn’t mean I want to spent my every waking hour hunting for these eggs. Talk about crazy! :-)

  16. Steve
    Steve says:

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that we’ve clarified the FAQ on “view all” pages. This year, you will NOT have to click on any “view all” links when you are hunting. Hope this helps! :)

  17. No Photo
    maryb says:

To clarify your clarification: What about the pages where clicking the link in the menu defaults to displaying all types or all materials such as Links and Connectors or Clasps? Does ‘View All’ only refer to the link next to the page counter where you have to manually change the display?

  18. No Photo
    F Bradley says:

Action not found for path: categories/displayTypes/

    Bronze jump rings..

  19. Karokat
    Karokat says:

Thanks, Steve, for clarification on the dreaded “View All”! I love the Lima Egg Hunts – it’s fun, there are free gifts, and I see new things that I may have missed before. For those who don’t want to spend time hunting eggs, don’t do it. Your choice. For those of us who are obsessive egg hunters and proud of it, go hunt!

    S platt says:

Just wanted to thank you for doing the egg hunt again this year. I find it fun to do while watching tv at night. Plus, I am finding out lots of items that you carry that I normally wouldn’t even know about. Love doing the egg hunt !! :)

  23. No Photo
    J Bolland says:

Hey Steve, will we need to be checking variance photos & size charts?

  24. Steve
    Steve says:

All areas (except for those specifically mentioned in the FAQs) are fair game. So if your goal is to find ALL the eggs, then you should look in all those nooks and crannies. However, I can tell you that you can get all the prizes (and more) without worrying about those… There are only a handful that are that devious. And I wouldn’t personally try to find every single one… I would go insane! :)

  25. Egobrain
    Egobrain says:

Ok. This is my fourth yr doing thisand I know I waste a lot of time cause I don’t understand fully the view all rule. In one half hr I have found two eggs in the “all sizes” heading. That’s a view all in my opinion if there are also options for sizes. Right?

  26. No Photo
    Suzanne I says:

The “view all” pages that are excluded are the ones you get to when you click on an actual “view all” link next to the page count. So if there are 5 pages of items in the current list, you can go to the next page, or you can click “view all” at the top or bottom of page 1 to see all 200+ items in the current list on one page… You don’t need to click on THAT “view all” link to find eggs. However, pages that come up by default showing all sizes, with options to look at individual sizes, are not covered by the “view all” exception, so you need to check those if you want to find the eggs hidden within.

  27. Steve
    Steve says:

    Thanks for helping clarify, Suzanne.

I added a graphic to the FAQ to help clarify as well. Keep in mind that these “View All” links don’t show up on every page (it depends on what you’re looking at). But when they do show up, they will always be in the little bar were you go Next / Previous through a list of products. These are the “View All” links that you’ll never need to click on to reveal more eggs.

    Hope this helps!

  28. Egobrain
    Egobrain says:

I gotcha! Thank you Suzanne :)

I’d like to say thank you to the staff who run this event and work very hard to reply to all of our questions. You’ve done a great job at explaining the rules and any grey spots that may be present. I have not done this before but i’m having fun. The only problem is that I have homework due tonight and I don’t want to quit searching. :’-( Nursing school is brutal on my schedule so i’d be lucky to find 25 or so.

    Thanks again,
    Christine

  35. Steve
    Steve says:

Don’t worry, Christine–I stopped at 13, haha :) Thanks for all your kind words. We sincerely appreciate it, and hope everyone is having fun. That’s the most important part to us.

    M Koches says:

I understand the view all and that if you have page 1 of 5, you could find an egg on page 3 but on page 1 you may have 10 items listed, do you have to open up every item on the page? Sorry, but I want to make sure I understand.

  37. Southern Charms
    Southern Charms says:

Ok ok ok I was looking at a page and then added a few items to my cart so I refreshed the page and an egg appeared where it had not previously been! Are they supposed to move or are new ones appearing? “Strange Magic”.

  38. HeatherD
    HeatherD says:

    Steve,
One quick question–do we have to drill down as far as one item per page? Or are you not that cruel:)?
    Thanks.

  39. Steve
    Steve says:

M Koches and HeatherD: If you’re just trying to get a few prizes and don’t want to spend the next several days hunting for eggs, then you won’t need to go to the individual product pages. But if you’re going for the top of the leaderboard, then you’ll want to go everywhere–”leave no stone unturned”… :) I will warn you, though, you might start dreaming of eggs in your sleep if you go for the top! It takes a lot of dedication. That’s why we want to make sure there are plenty of eggs and plenty of prizes for people like me who lose their mind after about 20 eggs!

  40. Steve
    Steve says:

Hi Southern Charms: we’ve noticed that there is sometimes a small delay before the egg shows up–but it is usually very quick. There definitely are not any eggs that intentionally disappear and reappear, though. And we’ve gone through all 200 eggs more than once, just to make sure that they’re all showing up. We know that there are sometimes little glitches that cause funny things–but we’re staying on top of those as much as possible so the game stays fair for everyone. And of course your feedback helps with this, so thank you!

  41. Kristin V

Easter Egg Hunt is my favorite!!! So excited!

  42. HeatherD
    HeatherD says:

Thanks Steve. I’m trying to beat my total of last year, and I actually had dreams of this hunt about a month ago. The prizes are secondary to me, although I will collect them. I was just trying to make it more logical for myself. :)

  43. Crazy Beader
    Crazy Beader says:

Just a quick update you need to make – - when you add a Prize to your Shopping Bag, the message says “remember to order by April 20th” – - this is last year’s date and should be changed to April 5th fot this year.

  44. Steve
    Steve says:

Thanks, Crazy Beader! We just made that change. Good catch.

    A Time To Bead says:

My laptop crashed so I’m hunting on my iPod this year. Anyone have a magnifying glass I can borrow?

  53. No Photo
    Suzanne I says:

Lynne A: you unlock prize levels as you find eggs and get to choose a prize from EACH unlocked prize level. So if you make it to 50, you get a 10-egg prize and a 50-egg prize, PLUS a discount code for the 25-egg prize. So keep racking up those eggs (and prizes!) :)

I’m so excited (egg-cited *g*) to be on the leader board this year! I asked just yesterday about the hunt, so finding out it was going today really took me by surprise. –I found two eggs that are there, but not opening. I figure I’ll come back to them. I still have 138 eggs or so to worry about finding.

  55. B Miller
    B Miller says:

G’night all – will have visions of eggs dancing in my dreams. I keep finding an egg, checking the leaderboard and realizing that I’m one short of getting onto the board. SO, 55 eggs for today – will search more tomorrow!

    Y Buonamici says:

The Lima Beads’ Egg Hunt is a wonderful stunt,
If you like a challenge, you can’t get enough.

The website is psychic, it knows when you’re tired,
So it gives you an egg, to stoke your search fires.

Your time is worth more than the value of prizes,
But you’ll click till you drop, though it won’t make you wiser.

And what do you gain from this frantic click-clicking?
A finger that’s sore, and a Wish List that’s ‘bitchin!

So family and friends, I’ll see you next week,
My time must be spent, in LB’s hide and seek!!

I think this year’s hunt is much harder than last year’s hunt. It seems some eggs need to meet all sorts of conditions before they’ll show up. Great hunt–thanks for doing this! I started dreaming about the eggs a week or so ago. I’m going to write this off as therapy and keep going :)

    T Iamarino says:

Just remember everyone, this hunt is Optional. You aren’t required to do it, some people really enjoy hunting hidden things, kind of like the hidden object games you play on fb or your phone. most of the people towards the top of the leaderboard are those people and could care less about the actual prizes, we just like the competition. The prizes are just a super sweet gesture from Lima for our efforts. You can get 10 eggs without ever looking at a product. Enjoy, have fun, if you get frustrated, take a break :)

Thanks Steve and all of the people at Lima for providing a fun event I look forward to every year! :)

  65. No Photo
    D Green says:

I’m not sure if this question can be answered but…would you have to click on an individual item to find an egg? Like, it’s not right on the main page of say a particular gemstone bead but if you clicked an individual item itself, there could be one there?

  66. yomama3897
    yomama3897 says:

Sorry to be dense, but I still have questions about hunting as far down as to a single product page: The directions make it sound as tho’ this may only be the case in the “metals” section. Steve, can you answer this one for me?

  67. No Photo
    Y Buonamici says:

Yes, you may find an egg on a single product page. However, going that deep into the website is really for the competition fanatics (ouch, I’m one of them), who are trying to get as high up on the leaderboard as possible. You can find plenty of eggs and get prizes without going that deep.

  68. No Photo
    Jodie B says:

    Question.
I’m on my computer and there is a two inches border on mypages. On my phone there isn’t a border at all? Might I be missing potential egg places on my phone??

  69. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

I worried about that, too, Jodie, as this is the first year I’ve used a tablet for some of the searching. I also noticed the edges were gone. However, it looks like the eggs just scoot over to fit in the window. Pretty sure we’re not missing any, but hey, a little verification can’t hurt, right?

  70. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

And….you know how when you hover over “Customer Service” at the top right,it pops up a little window with “Hi, ______! How can we help you?”

  71. Lois D
    Lois D says:

Only up to 46 so far!! Yikes, this is some kind of macabre fun, isn’t it? I’m having a difficult time finding any more eggs. Page by page, link by link, slowly I turn…and, there ain’t no mo eggs!!!
I think someone is pulling my l’egg with a terrible April Fool joke. You guys took away all the eggs today, didn’t you?!!
    :)

  72. S Marlow
    S Marlow says:

OK Lima–toss me a bone. I haven’t found an egg in way over an hour (maybe 2). I’m getting “hungry” for an egg. I don’t want help–just say they haven’t disappeared. I’m smiling (but bummed)! :)

  80. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

B Booker, if you are clicking the items individually in a list, clicking the “more photos and ideas” link would be redundant. If you are asking if you need to click on individual items, yes, if you want to find as many eggs as you can.

I have found 47 so far and even my two young girls are looking and squealing when they see them. I love the fact that you clarified the “view all” issue as I was questioning it myself. although I have one huge question as I did last year too: I noticed as last year it says its NOT in the Create and Learn or the blog…my question is this…the products that are listed UNDER the Create and Learn are they going to have any or are they considered a whole part of the blog/create and learn section? I hope that makes sense. LOL I am enjoying this egg hunt and hope to find tons more and found many many more beads I wasn’t aware you had in those nook and crannies you spoke about in an upper post. I hope you continue this as the years go on. Its awesome!!!

Just wondering if anyone knows if eggs have been placed when you click on the “Bigger” button to see the item larger than normal. This wasn’t addressed in the rules…thanks

  92. No Photo
    CY P says:

To clarify what I said earlier. There is a button that allows you to see the item larger. When clicking the “Bigger Photo” button on the item’s photo, you see a bigger version as well as other photos – sometimes it’s the back, sometimes a group of those items.

Have eggs been placed on those larger photos or the other photos that show up when you click on the “Bigger Photo” button?

  93. Stone Treasures
    Stone Treasures says:

Yes, eggs are hidden with in the ‘Bigger Photo’ area! My question is, are eggs hidden in the ‘Sort By’ pages? Certainly gets harder the deeper you dig, but still fun!

  94. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

I hope this is okay to say, and I apologize if this makes your eyes cross, but let me put it this way…*anything* you can click that doesn’t navigate you completely away from the page you’re on is fair game. :)

  95. Stone Treasures
    Stone Treasures says:

Of course, but the ‘view all’ is out of play. Jut wondering if the ‘Sort By’ is also out of play.

  96. Egobrain

You know,my first couple years were such learning experiences with this hunt. At times I’ll admit I almost broke down in tears…I know! No one forces this on us…but it is what it is. The tips that the “pros” offered helped so much. DiamondDust, your tips were the best. Thank you.

  97. No Photo
    Suzanne I says:

CY P: yes, those Bigger Photo views count as some of the nooks and crannies… pretty deep ones, I might add!

Stone Treasures: the rules state that you will never have to change the sort to find eggs. So you can leave the Sort By drop-down on the default and just search through what you see. You won’t find more eggs by changing the sort.

  98. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

You’ll notice that when you click a sorting menu like that, the page does refresh, so I count that as navigating you away from where you are. :)

Cristie, thanks. I remember being super frustrated until I got the hang of it. This year, I am way behind my usual pace, and starting to wonder if I’ll have to let go of some of the sneaky spot searches just to finish. :P Oh well, we’ll see.

  99. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

Oh, right, you won’t see a sort menu on item pages, which was what I was talking about in the first place! Whoo, not thinking yet today! (I AM SO BEHIND.)

And I am tickled pink every time I reach a prize! (There was one year I forgot to claim my prizes…can you say brain fart! haha) Well Max the cat is looking forlorn so I must go and play with him for a while and give my eyes and fingers a break :D

Hi frekncouga, I just wanted to let you know that we got your message. If you have questions on specific eggs, you can submit a message through to “Customer Service” menu at the top, and we’ll be happy to help. In order to keep everything fair for everyone, we try and keep specific egg location info out of these comments. We saw diamonddustshoe’s response, and it’s correct that the egg should only be showing up in one place on one single page. If you think you are seeing something you shouldn’t, just shoot us a note under the Customer Service menu :) Thanks!

Third, some of the fresh picks are just cruel…made you look…twice.
Thanks Lima for another great hunt. Good luck everyone :-)

  146. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

I must ask you, Jacquie, did you find them farther apart than usual, or find whole sections that seemed like something should have been there? I’m getting that paranoid feeling, if you know what I mean, but I swear, I must have magical abilities to hunt the wrong sections first this year! This, of course, means I will be finding 20 in the next 24 hours. Right. This is so weird.

  147. No Photo
    Y Buonamici says:

It does seem to be harder this year – but maybe that’s my imagination. I could swear I was farther along at this point last year. Maybe the site has just grown a ton. Still, a few people are finding eggs.

  148. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

The distribution of the “harder” eggs (that second 100) seems to be different than before.

This sounds crazy to say… but if we do the math using what they said, and the first half are supposed to be “upper level,” let’s say (which I will neither confirm nor deny)…that leaves the second hundred to conceivably be spread over thousands of individual pages. Looking at it that way, it’s easy to see how you can hit patches of nothing miles wide. So, and here’s the crazy part…maybe we actually need a few *more* eggs to find (I remember when there were only a handful!). Not additional prize levels, per se, but if we have to look at all those pages regardless, less distance between would sure up morale. Am I wrong? I could be, my eyes are crossing.

    Just pondering…

  149. No Photo
    Myriam V says:

I agree with you diamonddustshoe. It’s my first year trying to get all the eggs, but the size of the “empty spaces” between finding an egg seem to be awfully big.

In theory, yes, but if you come up short on time for any reason, you’re in trouble (especially with a late start). Even so, you can still go 100 pages with nothing, and that’s rough sometimes.

Athena, I’m going to be honest with you here…while it’s not impossible that an egg could be in those places in theory…risk/benefit analysis says if you want to search the maximum number of pages possible in the time you have left, not doing so will save you a lot of collective time you need to cover more ground.

Also, and I hope its okay to say, I think it will cause I don’t remember at all where it was!! — But I found one on top of a photograph below the heading “create and learn with these items”. Be sure to write it down, and remember that it expires on 4/30/14.” NOTICE: It says 2014.

Then, in the “area below” it says: “You’ve found more than 25 eggs! You’ve earned a coupon code that will give you a discount when placing an order. The code expires on April 30, 2015. Enter it on the Shopping Bag page to save!
Your Coupon Code is: XYZXYZ (15% Off Most Regular Price Items). This coupon expires on April 15th, 2015.” NOTICE: Is says April 15, not 30.

Here’s something weird: I’ve already found my eggs and placed my order, but stubbornly, I keep looking. Now here it is, Easter morning, and as I look back over the “Comments” section (which I’ve already done a number of times), I’m finding no more EGGS, but I AM finding comments from earlier dates, like March 30, etc., that I swear I’ve never seen before! Anyone else experienced this?

It appears that Lima Beads website was crashing due to the amount of users EXCEEDING the amount of bandwidth allocated to their website from their ISP (Internet Service Provider).

They should definitely increase their bandwidth for next year’s egg hunt.

I wonder sometimes, too. I think if I didn’t have OCD, I’m not sure I’d get through all of it. And I’d also be taking a leisurely stroll through Czech glass today instead of going Mach infinity.

I never blog but here goes……this has been the worst Easter Egg Hunt in Lima Beads I have done. As time goes by so do my eyes. I no longer can tell if I have clicked on an item or not. Can some one make changes in your colors so people like me can tell if we clicked an item. Maybe blue and red. That way I’m not clicking the same item over and over again. Please do something about it. I do like the all the new items but that adds more pages. How about more hidden eggs next year. Good luck to those still looking I give up early. bye

Hmm. In some of the smaller text spots, maybe the teal is harder to distinguish from the purple… I personally would love it just if *all* the links had a color change, like it’s impossible to tell where you’ve been on the crystals/pearls if you lose your place. :P

I agree on more eggs, though, for sure!

Hi fellow hunters. I have been watching and reading. This is my first blog post this year. I hit 150!!! Better than last year. NOT going to get me into the top 10.

I agree with several of you…
*Pick a category, then stay there and click everything. OCD and organization helps.
*Somtimes the LB team hides eggs in the darned-est places! And I have found many that have made me LOL literally.
*I know seed beads and gemstones and Czech glass are difficult categories. But I had no idea there were 1000s of ways to string a silly bead.
*I did indeed see eggs in my dreams last night. (This bothers me…)

This year’s hunt was harder, but I’m still having a good time.

    Y Buonamici says:

I’m fairly computer literate, but no expert, so someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the change in color when you click a link is set by YOU, not the website. It’s somewhere in how you set your computer settings. With the hunt still on, I don’t have time to look that up right now, but if anyone knows off the top of their head, they can post it, and you can certainly look it up after the hunt.

OMG the last few hours of the contest…I don't know if you saw the race for those bottom spots of the top ten, but if you were, you probably made popcorn. That was some SERIOUS competition! It got so intense in those last minutes I was forgetting to breathe while trying to quickly close my cart (I don't even know what all I actually purchased, but I have a zillion dollar wish list now, and I'm probably in some kind of trouble.) :P

OMG…I was looking for several hours every day since this started. I got to 101 thinking I’d make the leaderboard only to discover the lowest number is 106. This is my 4th year doing this hunt and this year was WAY harder. Some advise on searching such as what sections to avoid would be helpful. I thinking I literally spent hours in a section or two not to find ANY eggs. Congrats to all of you that made it. There ought to be a default such as after you search so many pages you are granted an egg. :)

Way to go diamond! I’m so happy you made it into the top ten and managed to hang in there. It was a fight to the finish indeed!

I had my own little battle going. Once I knew I wouldn’t make it into the top ten, I decided I’d be happy if I made the top twenty. Well, after a heated battle with J Coates and lightningbug, I managed to finish in 22nd position, just below them. The board does list me as being in 20th position with them since we have the same number of eggs found, so I’m happy :)

Thank you to diamond for her enthusiasm and hints which kept me going ’til the wee hours, and thank you to Lima Beads for having the hunt. It was tiring (my neck hurts and my eyes are seeing double!), exciting, and most of all, fun!

I’ve thought about that, too, S Shook. I always try to save time on Sunday to sort things out, but every year it gets harder. Miriam V, the only reason your name comes after J Coats and lightningbug on hte Leaderboard when you have the same score, is that they list ties alphabetically, so rest assured, your 20th place ranking is just as valid as theirs!

Is it my imagination or were the eggs found more in clumps than they have been in past years? It seemed like I could go through item after individual item in certain sections and not find a single one. Then after two or three hours of nothing, 2 or 3 eggs popped up in the space of half hour or so. I agree with those who suggested the other day, that as Lima Beads grows, more eggs might make the hunt less frustrating. It would still require the same amount of time to peruse the entire website to find 300 eggs as 200, just shorter times between reveals.

Laurie, I found 6 eggs in 10 minutes yesterday morning so in some cases you may be right. I even found an egg while waiting for a movie to start (no egg hunting during the movie though). I am pretty sure I got well over 100 last year so it was harder. Also hard it fell on my weekend with my boyfriend. I only see him 4 days per month. If I did not have my computer open he said “don’t you want to look for eggs?”. But I had an 8 hour egg hunting break sunday when I could not look for eggs because I had to live life :(

Thank you, Lima Beads, for all the time, effort (and prizes!!) that you put forth for the annual egg hunt. I know that it gives me a greater appreciation for the sheer size of your site and the number of products you carry. Plus, while I’m browsing around, I always find new products that give me a spark of creative inspiration. The hunt was a bit harder this year — due mostly to the increased amount of products you carry – but you also did a really good job of hiding many so that we had to take extra time to look for them. Thanks for getting everything back up after Saturday night’s crash!

Thanks Lima for hosting this truly brilliant egg hunt again this year! I thought I was gonna be in trouble in seed beads but the real trouble lies sneakily hidden in the vast amount of Czech Glass ! Mind boggling how much merchandise you carry! I saw things I didn’t even know that I needed

As an alternative to the suggestions for more eggs next year, I would vote for eliminating some of the nooks and crannies instead. With so many products there are plenty of places to hide eggs, and people would still have plenty of digging to do, but it would be nice to know that we didn’t have to check the Send to a Friend, More Photos, or Add to Fresh Pick popups. Trying to fit that in is always the biggest drag for me, because you can go hours checking popups and not finding any eggs. With easily up to 15 or 20 popups associated with each item, that’s a TON of nooks to check for what is probably only a dozen eggs.

Thank you Lima! (I think : ) My husband thinks (knows) I’m crazy. What a rush to be in the top ten! I was at 15th place Sunday afternoon and said to myself- self! why not go for it. What a battle! (to diamonddust-love that name)- Honestly, I don’t know how I pulled ahead in those last hours. Dumb luck and persistence. I know my arm will never be the same. I hardly made it past the website halfway mark. (Except for the first layer). Good luck to all for the drawing!

We could hunt for the afikomen. Seriously, this took an awful lot if time, especially when I was supposed to be finding non-Pesach-allowable food and getting rid of it (which I ended up blitzing). Or we could hunt for chametz. I made up a nice little riff on multiplying plagues like in the Haggadah. Maybe I’ll post it later. There is something a little odd about obsessively looking for something (and I mean obsessively) for a holiday I don’t actually celebrate. And I forgot to ask you not to put food in my box. But I have never not been in the top 100 (and was once in the top 10).

There were “clusters” this year, one big one, in fact. If I had only had that much luck in seed beads, I might not be in this straightjacket typing with a paintbrush. Where was I? Oh yeah…

    Looking at Suzanne’s, Steve’s, and MaryLu’s comments….hmm.

If someone really wants to cover the whole site, they have to start as soon as the starting egg goes off, if you will, and methodically click everything one section one page at a time. This takes the entire week with very little in the way of breaks. Or sleep.
Every year I start off thinking I am going to do that, that *this* time I’m going to get them all. Then, around Wednesday or so it becomes clear to me I won’t finish unless I stop clicking the three right side links (fresh pick, send to friend, add to wishlist). Then by Friday afternoon I wind up panicking and give up on clicking more photos, bigger photo, size chart, and all of those related links, relying on the reasoning that I’m only losing “a handful” of eggs by doing so.
I don’t know if MaryLu was clicking those things the whole time, but for the majority of my searching this year, I was not, because I got a late start and had to resort to item page scans only. As it was, I covered a *vast* amount of pages, only to come up with essentially the same numbers.
I’m torn on more eggs vs fewer locations. While not clicking those extra links within an item page would surely save a ton of wrist strain and time (it takes a single item page down from 30 seconds to cover to about two, and more if the pages are slow loading at the time. waiting for those popup boxes is agonizing when the site is crowded)…I’m not sure what that would do to the leaderboard. It’s not easy getting up there and staying up there, and it gets harder every year as more people get the hang of the search. Is it those two or three little sneaky eggs that would edge someone out, or sheer ability to force your way through 10,000 pages in a given time? Hmm.
(And by speed I mean, for example…I just found I was getting those blank, not fully loaded pages even when the site was fast because I OUTPACED OUR MODEM).
More eggs, though…that would be more work for the team, but interesting. It would give you more breaks in the Egg Desert, and give you the sense that you’re getting somewhere, and I think alleviating some of *that* frustration might keep more people going in the long run. Getting on the leaderboard at all might be a little tougher, though.

Any way you look at it, you know we’re just going to keep doing it anyway. :) Underneath all our commiseration, you know we love you for it. ;)

Hi everyone! I just wanted to send along a quick update on a few different things. First of all, we hear all of you regarding feedback on possible changes for next year’s hunt. The hunt has grown quite a bit since the first time we did it 6 years ago (there were only 16 eggs!!)… And we’re always interested in tweaks that will make it better. We will definitely be reading all your comments very closely again next year :)

I also wanted to address the slowness / crash late on Saturday. From about 11:30pm to 1am our time, we did experience a lot of slowness and made it difficult (close to impossible in some cases) to hunt. We were able to patch it up by about 1am that night. We want you to know how important it us to us that our website stays up & running during the hunt. You are all investing a ton of time and energy into this, and we want to deliver our best. Over the whole week, our website was much speedier this year than last year, except for this brief period. We make adjustments every year, and we’ll have to do even better next year. I’m sorry for the lost hunting time, and please know that we are always striving to make our site as snappy as can be–and we’ll use this experience to make next year even better :)

I also wanted to thank everyone for all the awesome comments you posted. It means a lot to us that you enjoy hunting for eggs… our #1 goal is that we have fun here, and we owe it to all of you for achieving this goal.

Lastly, we are in the middle of getting all the gift certificates sorted out and issued. We’ll have the grand prize announcement made as soon as possible (tomorrow at the latest). Everyone on the leaderboard will receive their gift certificate via e-mail shortly thereafter.

Stay tuned, and thanks so much for hunting along with us this year!

The one thing I did this year was click on every item in a section in order starting at page 1 as fast as I could click/load. By the last two days I ran out of items that I had not clicked on. I did not click on bigger photo or any other links within each individual items. One thing to know about me—I am highly methodical and organized so the way I hunt would drive most peeps insane and I hunted morning, noon and night. I did sleep except one night, but that was because we had terrible storms. Obviously I missed eggs by going so fast, but the overall results worked for me! :-)

  316. Beachcomber
    Beachcomber says:

To diamonddustshoe- and for future hunters. I was clicking all those things the second day, but grew discouraged by the lack of success. I never found one egg in the pop up screens. In my opinion, not worth it unless going for all eggs. I really don’t think any one person could actually do it in a week. I am OCD about looking over every page as thoroughly and quickly as possible. The eggs seem to pop out at you. Some little eggys were very tricky! Kudos to Lima. I really wish we could know what we missed.
I only remember 3 favorite eggs: snowman, large-hole guy and in the envelope because they were so cool. Is it ok to say that after the fact? I did have 5-ish days plus two evenings to hunt so made it much further than the past 2 years that I have participated. Time is a huge factor. I love Lima’s crossword puzzle. More time to look at the merchandise : ) But the egg hunt gets you to look at items you didn’t know where there. Great marketing idea.

One other thing that has been bugging me…several people that commented on the blog said those of us finding eggs were getting help from kids, spouses, etc. Those comments are unkind: as they actually accuse people they don’t know of cheating. Hats off to you top 10 finishers! I started off just hoping to get to 100 as it seemed harder this year due to the massive number of products to look at. I ended up in 32nd place with 135 eggs, which blew my mind. It’s all about being methodical and relentless, plus putting in the time. The prizes are just gravy. For me the challenge is what makes it fun.

  321. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

    Thanks for the update, Steve!

So it was the site being faster then, and not me being quicker after all. ;)

One time -ONCE- and not this year, I found an egg by clicking “add to wishlist,” so I know it can happen. I know it sort of sucks the fun out to ask, maybe, but how many eggs would I lose each year, percentage wise, if I never clicked any links on an item page? I see you can get to the 180′s, but how much farther without it? Though as you can see, one egg can make all the difference in those last few minutes…

If there’s one place I’d like to know I never have to look for eggs again, it would be the zoom feature on the item pages and on the list pages for chains, cords, ribbon, and the like. I found one there one year, and I’ve tried to look ever since but WOW that slows me down like nothing else and makes me dread those with a passion.

And Suzanne, I pretty much knew those first two you mentioned there at the end, but what was that last one about the butterfly perch? MUST KNOW.

I have made my first public Fresh Pick to commemorate this occasion. Enjoy, muahahaha!

  322. Jacquie H
    Jacquie H says:

Diamond, Somewhere in this blog…Steve said that there was only a “handful” of eggs on the links under each individual item page. I took that to mean less than ten…so I played the numbers game and chose to skip that this year. Also, I had no idea that eggs could be in the zooms…I avoided those. Something to try next year!

    diamonddustshoe says:

Yeah, that was the comment I based my decision to ditch looking at the photos on. Had to at that point, I was wayyyy behind.

    Hi Steve
thanks for the most amazing fun hunt ever! I loved every minute.
I did have a suggestion for next time – could you put a clock on the hunt page. I am in Australia and tried to work out when the hunt finished. So I check out where you are – Ann Arbor. Great. So I set up a page with the time in Ann Arbor. It hits 11.59 but the hunt goes on! So I reread the instructions. Pacific Time – oh???? Okay so I look that up. Now I have that on my separate page. It hits 11pm and I think I have an hour to go, time to whizz through my last page of seed beads. Get to 11.20pm according to Pacific Time and I look at the Big Green Machine. Oh where’s the Egg gone? Um yep it finished 20 minutes ago. Oh poop.
So I and, I’m guessing, anyone else not on Pacific Time would probably benefit from a clock on one of the Hunt pages so we can keep track of how long we have left to hunt.
I sure learnt a lot about US time zones hunting for Pacific time, but I wasn’t hunting for eggs :(

Great Hunt and I can’t believe I got on the Leaderboard! I’m absolutely stunned and thrilled.
    Thanks

  325. diamonddustshoe
    diamonddustshoe says:

Oh gosh! We are on Daylight Savings Time, I wonder if that messed up your calculation? Next time, if anyone wants to be safe, try Googling “what time is it in California USA?” directly to double check.

    Suzanne I says:

diamonddustshoe, I couldn’t tell you what page it was, but at one point an egg showed up right under the butterfly in the header by the bag icon, making it look like the butterfly was perched just to one side on top. :)

I also remember finding an egg in the chain zoom on an item in a previous year. I only haphazardly checked those this year, and didn’t turn up any eggs in any zooms or pop-ups.

Pat-from-Oz, for future reference, if you haven’t placed your prize order and have one or more prizes in your bag, there is a countdown next to the item in the bag letting you know how long you have to place the order (i.e. how close you are to the end of the hunt). So you could check that and make a note of the conversion.

Thanks LIMA crew. It was a fun hunt. I love finding those eggs in the nooks and crannies I wouldn’t normally check out because I don’t use the product in my jewelry. Thank you for all the time and effort you put in for us to have fun.

  329. Pat-from-Oz
    Pat-from-Oz says:

Oh yes, I used the countdown clock in the bag right up until I placed my order. But once that was done I was in the dark timewise. I ordered earlier than I would have because we had the website go down and I didn’t want to miss out. But then it was a temporal guessing game here in Oz.
That’s why I suggest a clock on the hunt page to make it easier for us lost in the wilderness.

I found so many tempting items as I travelled around the site. I even snapped up some artist beads that will make the most adorable earrings. Even their names were adorable.

  330. S Marlow
    S Marlow says:

Thank you Steve, and all the Lima team. I agree with so many that mentioned how much time seemed to laps between finding eggs. I found my last egg just 8 minutes before the end of the contest (and it put me in the top 10). I got very frustrated when I fell down below, with little time left. I figured I had too many to find to climb back up. I was feeling that I should give up, but then a little voice said I shouldn’t be a quitter. Our time zone kept me up until 3 AM.
My favorite egg was the one on the mitten of the snowman bead. I looked at the bead and said there should be one “right there” and chuckled when I found I was right.
I spent crazy long hours looking for those spell-inducing, habit forming, little eggs. My computer runs on a DSL line, and though it is suppose to be fast, Ha! I found that I had long durations of slow loading pages. Can’t get around it; it’s hard on patience.
I started my Lima egg hunting the 1st year Lima started this whole thing. I stumbled onto the site while searching internet sites for an item, just as the hunt began. I haven’t missed one yet. I agree that it is getting harder and harder as the site gets bigger and bigger.
My suggestion for the hunt–give the top hunter some “extra” prize for finding the “most” eggs. That is some feat to get that far.
Thank you, again, Lima. Though I lose lots of sleep, and use up much of my week hunting, I enjoy the challenge. I marvel over the genius mind behind the egg hunt. You do well!!!

It has been 3 years since I first discovered the LB Easter Egg Hunt and I have to say, I’m totally obsessed with it.
Fortunately my husbant has accepted my “compulsive nature” and hasn’t complained at all during the week (as long of course as there was food on the table). The only complaint I heard, was from my 7 year old son, who couldn’t play games on the laptop.
It also helped that our (Orthodox) Easter is a week later than yours this year, so the Easter vacation hadn’t started yet and my son was at school every morning.
I had so much fun with the hunt and the joy I got every time I would find an egg is indescribable. Nevertheless I keep wandering where the remaining 12 eggs were hidden. I know I oppened just a few of the pop-up windows, and that was only on the first two days (I actually found one there), but the process was slowing me down.
I would like to thank you for this great Easter Egg Hunt! I’m certainly looking forward to the next one!!!

  336. Karokat
    Karokat says:

Thanks to Lima for another fun Egg hunt! I’ve made it to the top ten in maybe 5 out of 7 egg hunts, and I’m obsessive about hunting. This year I lost almost three days due to my cat being very sick, but I did end up with 118 eggs and lots of lovely prizes! AND I beat out my sister, which was just the icing on the cake! I agree with others who commented that maybe since the site has grow enormously, some of the nooks and crannies should be eliminated as future hiding places for eggs, especially the ribbon, cord and chain zoom strips. I always dread checking those, cause it’s really hard on my carpal tunnel and it rarely yields more than one egg. I also wouldn’t mind not having to check the size photos either. It did seem like once you started hunting through individual products, the eggs were more sparsely distributed and you could go longer without seeing an egg than in previous years. I lucked out on finding some of those eggs though, just because certain beads, charms and ribbon happened to catch my eye. I call those serendipitous shopping eggs, and I think I found more of those this year than in previous years.

One thing that I noticed that concerned me was that at least one product that had an egg disappeared because it was sold out, and it was impossible to get to, even by checking all the new additions. My cat cost me that egg! I saw it briefly but before I clicked it my cat jumped on the keyboard and closed the tab. I told you about it using the customer service contact button, but I got no response. After the hunt was over, my sister told me that one of the eggs she found early on was in a wire product that she went back and tried to buy toward the end of the hunt, but the product and the egg were no longer there. So unless you re-hid those eggs, people who didn’t get to those products early in the hunt had no chance of finding them, which doesn’t seem fair. I thought years ago it was decided that sold out products wouldn’t be removed during the egg hunt, but just labeled Out of Stock. Apparently that’s no longer the case or it’s not working?

One other question- are the coupon codes good till 4/15 or 4/30? The message I got said both dates in two different sentences.

In conclusion, the Egg Hunt was lots of fun, and for next year I’ll make a checklist of every spot I need to look and try to be more methodical. I’ll also give up sleeping during the hunt! :-)

  337. lightningbug
    lightningbug says:

Wow, I never dreamed there might be eggs hidden in the ‘add to wish list’ links. But I really don’t think I would have had time to look there anyway, just methodically clicking every single individual item page took long enough! If I’d just one more hour…Alas, there’s always next year. And regarding P thistle’s comment, I guess there’s always somebody gotta say something negative, and I probably shouldn’t even respond, but it irks me that somebody would regard Lima as being cheap or unfair. Other websites egg hunts were unfair-you did have to buy something to participate and you didn’t get to keep your eggs if somebody else checked out with it first. If you read the contest info, Lima makes it very clear to be sure to check out (pay the shipping for) any prizes you’ve won BEFORE the end of the contest. There was banner at the top of every page to remind us of this fact.

There is one clarification that I would like…in the rules is states that no eggs will be found under “create & Learn” or “The Lima Blog”. I took this to mean that under “What’s Fresh” eggs could be found in “Back In Stock” and “New Products”. As far as the “Back in Stock” category goes it changes thoughout the week – so can eggs really be placed there? If someone could clear this up, I would be most grateful! :-)

You know, when I was hunting through the Artist’s Beads I noticed a product disappear, and thought “uhoh,” myself, Karokat. It’s weird, because some products *do* just say sold out, but some of them are dropping off anyway.

As far as the Back in Stock and New Products headings go…I wouldn’t skip looking there entirely. The way it works with ones like that is usually they’ll be placed somewhere on the page(s) that doesn’t move when inventory changes. (page 2 is still page 2 even if the stuff on it is different, for example.)
As for the inventory itself, anything added during the week doesn’t get an egg added to it, thought it does cause some grumbling when you suddenly find an unclicked link or 20 in a section you just cleared. This year it was half easy, I just ignored the Nina stuff since all of it was new, even the icon for it.
I usually find an egg on one of those in a certain spot most years, but this year it was not there.

Where was the “ol reliable” that disappeared for you this year, Jacquie?

  343. Jacquie H
    Jacquie H says:

The old reliable that did not show it’s beautiful little egg face was in the search box. Every year there has been an egg if you typed in easter egg or egg. I hope I don’t get in trouble for telling such a specific locale!

Here’s something fun to note that I’ve learned over this contest (outside of the fact that ALL the videos and images for the Create and Learn tutorials have broken links. AAAAAA)…
    *ahem*

First there was the egg discrepancy between the tablet and the desktop, which I fixed by refinding an egg and letting the counter on the desktop catch up. This little non communication lag came in handy yesterday, but since it might frustrate someone else, here’s something that can happen:

I loaded my bag up over the contest because I couldn’t make up my mind which kind of thing I was getting, and I hadn’t made a coupon choice yet. I used both my desktop and my tablet as I did this. I moved a nuch of stuff off to the wish list and closed my cart out on my desktop, only to find my tablet still had all the items in the bag the next day. (This was handy to me, not having to go back and dig a bunch out of the wish list to put back for the next order, but it might not be so awesome for someone else.)
I used the tablet to wander a bit, and in doing so, added a couple more things to the cart. Apparently, because I made that edit (I guess), when I came back to the desktop this morning, everything is magically back in the cart! I thought I was going to have redo it. Yay!

(I will learn the ways of cookies/local storage/databases/server access one of these days, but today is not that day. ;) )

I had started to worry when I saw broken links on some of the picks during the hunt, but then I remembered they change with every page refresh, so an egg would only be “floating” on top of them if one were there. The floating is kind of funny, depending on where the egg is, sometimes you can’t click what’s under it at all…”Can I go here?” No! You already found this egg! “But but but…” :)
