Easter Egg Hunt 2017

Posted by Steve on April 10 at 12:35 pm

The time has come for the 9th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lima Beads! We’ve been egg-xtremely hard at work this weekend hiding eggs all over the site… and we hope you have fun this year : ) Just like the previous hunt, we have over $2,000 in gift certificates that we’re giving away to the top hunters! :) And, there are more prizes than ever this year… Read more below, or check out the Hunt Page to get started!

The Basics

We’ve scattered 300 Easter eggs all over our website. The more eggs you find, the more prizes you get! We have a leaderboard to track the progress of all the egg hunters, and the top 100 hunters will all get gift certificates! The hunt lasts all week, and ends at 11:59pm Pacific time on Easter (April 16).

300 Eggs??!

That’s right, we hid 300 total eggs on our website (the same as last year). It seems like a lot, but it really helps cure those droughts between eggs.

The Prizes

Just like last year, we have a big pool of prizes, and you use your eggs as currency to pick and choose your prizes. For example, if you find 10 eggs, you can pick a couple prizes–for example, you could pick a prize that costs 3 eggs, another that costs 4 eggs, and one that costs a single egg (for a total of 10). The more eggs you find, the more prizes you’ll be eligible for! PLUS, we’re giving away a $20 gift certificate to every single hunter on the leaderboard when the hunt ends–just like last year! Keep an eye on the leaderboard and read more about the prizes on the Hunt page.

An Important Note for Long-Time Egg Hunters

Make sure to check out the FAQ on the hunt page… we’ve updated it this year to explain some details about where you will and won’t find eggs. The details are the same as last year, so no changes here :)

The Rules

We have detailed rules and some FAQs on the hunt page, so we suggest you check those out. There are a few things we want you to know, however. When you place an order to redeem your prizes, normal shipping rates apply (as low as $2.99 for U.S. customers). We have lots of great gifts this year, but we can’t guarantee they will all be available when the hunt ends on Sunday. So place your orders early to make sure you get the gifts you want!

What are you waiting for? Start hunting!

Snif, our laptop broke last Thursday; no tablet, no smartphone; NO EGGHUNT!!! Snif. Last year I managed to find 250 eggs even though I missed the start. My husband will let me use his company laptop only for urgent matters for a few minutes, not 20 hours of constant browsing…. But I wish everybody Good Hunting, remember to eat&drink&sleep occasionally – and what’s most important – have fun!

  27. Breanna
    Breanna says:

Are there eggs in the description of a product? If you look something up in the search bar will you find more eggs?

  28. Steve
    Steve says:

D Whitney: Moogie is correct. The “View Variance” popups will not have any eggs hidden inside them (we consider these the same as the “Bigger Photo” popups).

Breanna: Yes, there may be eggs on the pages dedicated to a single product. All pages on our site are fair game, except for the sections under the “Create & Learn” menu in the green bar. Also, you will not gain any advantage by using the search bar. There are no special eggs that can be found on pages of search results. Hope this helps!

  29. B Miller
    B Miller says:

Hi Steve! Thanks you for another Annual Easter Egg Hunt – I look forward to this every year! A question – years ago I was the lucky finder of a golden egg (an earlier version of the contest, these are no longer a part of the Egg Hunt). The one I found was located in the “zoom” function on a particular item (such as along the length of a ribbon, cord or chain), when shown in a page list. Are these types of zoom functions fair game for finding eggs? Thank you for clarifying!

  30. H Gustafson
    H Gustafson says:

This is my first time participating and have only found 34 eggs. Haven’t found a single one today after spending over an hour going through the website. I bow to the greatness of the leaders who seem to be much better at seek and find than I am. Congrats and good luck!

  31. D Brister
    D Brister says:

Ok you sais no eggs under Create &Learn in the Green Bar,but, what about the Create & learn under the individual beads pages

  32. Steve
    Steve says:

B Miller: Wow, you’ve been a long-time egg hunter :) To answer your question, you will NOT need to “zoom in” on chain, ribbon, or similar items. We feel that this “zoom in” option is very similar to the “bigger image” popups which do not contain eggs either, as you know. I’ll have to remember to clarify that in the future. Thanks for pointing this out!

  33. B Miller
    B Miller says:

Thanks, Steve – have been participating in Lima Beads egg hunts since the very start! Appreciate the clarification – you’ve just saved me HOURS of useless zooming!!! :-)

  34. Steve
    Steve says:

D Brister: No, you do not need to click on items in the Create & Learn section on individual beads pages. Clicking on those items (a design, tip, or Fresh Pick for example), will take you to a page that is underneath the Create & Learn menu on the site–and there will be no eggs on those pages.

    B Miller says:

Hi again Steve! Another clarifying question for you (using the example you cite in your Easter Egg Hunt FAQ, so as to not give anything away). If you have started on the Metal Beads page, and filtered down to a particular metal and/or style of bead, there is a horizontal scroll bar of the different metal types near the top of the page. For instance, for some bead styles where there are eleven metal types, the first eight types are displayed, and you can press the right arrow on the scroll bar to view the remaining three metal types. Once you hit the scroll bar arrow and move to the next set of metal types, is this considered a new “page” from an Egg Hunt perspective?

  45. Steve
    Steve says:

B Miller: Here’s what I would say about that scenario. If you click the little arrow to slide through the sets of metal types, we would NOT consider that a new page. In other words, if you click one of those arrows, there is no need to re-check the rest of the page for new eggs.

Hey Steve, Just a quick question, could you email a list of where all the eggs are hidden? I will send you a check you for $one Ka jillion dollars. That sound Fair?

Seriously though, if you have a section lets say “Jump Rings” and the top description says “Metal” like, (All, brass, bronze, copper, etc) then the next line says (“All Styles: oval, round, etc)

Does the “All Styles Rule” apply to this situation as well? Or would you have to pick lets say “Brass” as a metal, then pick “All Styles” as “all” the shape? Let me know, just a little confused.

    Thank you!!!!
    Teresa

At the mid-point-ish part of the hunt now and I just glanced at the search bar where it asks, “What are you looking for?” and I thought how cool would it be if I typed the word “EGGS!” into the search… but that would take the fun out of it… right? Heh heh. I think that means it’s time to sleep.

    D Filar says:

Hi Steve. Are we going to be finding eggs in the more photos and ideas area?

  55. Steve
    Steve says:

A Rocca: You can redeem all your eggs for prizes, and you will still be on the leaderboard (your eggs won’t disappear). You just won’t be able to use them to redeem more prizes…

Teresa: Hmm…. that’s a lot of money… very tempting! :) Regarding your question about the metal colors and styles… I will try and explain it this way. When you choose “All Metals” and “All Styles”, that is a unique page on our site showing every jump ring we sell. There may (or may not) be an egg on that page. Then, if you choose “Brass” as your metal and “All Styles” as the secondary filter, you are viewing a separate page on our site, which shows you all styles of brass jump rings. Again, there may (or may not) be an egg there. Finally, if you keep your “Brass” selection, but choose “Round” as your style, that is yet another unique page on our site that shows you just round, brass jump rings. And it’s a candidate for an egg as well. The reason we have a rule about the “view all” link is because it shows you the same exact products as if you were to just click next / next / next through the pages. In other words, there are 2 ways to look at the same exact products, and we don’t want to make you duplicate your effort… it’s already maddening enough :) But to answer your question, yes, we consider all the combinations of metals and styles to be unique pages, so if you are trying to be at the top of the leaderboard, leave no stone unturned :)

D Filar: If I understand you correctly, clicking the “More photos and ideas” link will bring you to a page that shows the details about one specific product on our site. Those pages may have eggs as well. Of course, it increases the amount of pages you need to go to in order to find the most eggs… so we made sure to hide plenty of eggs on the other pages in order to get you some good prizes if you didn’t want to click into every single product that we sell on our site.

I’m averaging one egg per 100 pages. I’m not happy. Going to make it to 40 as there are a couple of things I”d like there and it’s not too far out of reach, but them I’m out. Last year seemed like more fun. (Maybe because I bought everything — almost — on the site during the winter sales.)

  58. Steve
    Steve says:

mariman: Well, *technically speaking*, that isn’t off-limits for eggs. But I can tell you that I personally wouldn’t spend too much time in that area. It won’t benefit you on the leaderboard.

Hey Steve-need a clarification. When I select a single item, the item description changes from a green to a red color. If I am in another section and that same item shows up there too with the red colored description, do I need to look at it again or can I skip it since I have already viewed it once?

  69. No Photo
    Jeni-from-Oz says:

Karendkurz from my experience if the item link changes colour it means you’ve clicked that link. So you won’t need to look at that page again. My computer is set up to change the links once I’ve clicked them. It’s how I track where I’ve been. Only thing is, don’t close the page down, that counts as closing your session and every link goes back to the original colour. Did that last year and sobbed as I discovered I’d lost all my records of where I’d been. Not a fun moment.

How is it possible that I have spent so much time and viewed so many pages only to find 13 eggs? This is ridiculous. I don’t know how people are flying through this and finding so many eggs. I had the same experience in previous years and told myself I would not get sucked into this again.

That’s it! I’m done. No more Lima egg hunts for me. Have fun y’all!

  77. Steve
    Steve says:

Desiree: Tara is correct, you can remove a prize from your shopping bag and choose a new one, and it will not affect your egg count.

karendkurz: Pat from Oz is correct… there are multiple ways to get to some of our products (for instance, a product might be listed under Charms, but also in the Last Chance Clearance section). Once you visit that product’s page, you don’t need to go back there again.

Pat-from-Oz: Moogie is correct, the hunt ends at 11:59pm in the U.S. Pacific time zone (just before midnight). If you need any other info to help with the conversion to Australian time, just let us know.

Mary – Sweet Chick: I checked with the Saturday shift, and everyone claimed “innocent” and said they didn’t turn off the eggs…. :)

NMR: You’ve discovered our secret behind the hunt (showing off all the products we carry in the nooks and crannies of the website)! Regarding the countdown you see, that is not referring to the Easter Egg Hunt. That is a countdown for another feature on our website–the Big Green Bead Machine (you are seeing the countdown timer because you probably visited the Bead Machine page). Finally, sorting by price will not help or hurt you.

diamonddustshoe: I will check my email and get back to you…

The hunt is starting to wind down! You all are the real stars of the hunt, putting up with all this egg madness :)

Thanks for all the fun, Lima Beads! I’m satisfied with my egg stash, for my 1st time participating with any real effort :) I did discover, I have to tell you, after all my digging, there is only 1 thing you don’t have: that beautiful butterfly button that Green Girl Studios makes – please consider bringing it in!!! :) Hahaha!!! See what happens?! Happy Easter, all. xox Anita

Thanks Lima Beads, for all your hard work and keeping me in beads and all the talented people that show their bead work, so nice

I just don’t have it in me this year to do the digging that gets to the leaderboard. Happy with my 115 eggs, happy to not be cross-eyed (even thought EVERYTHING is starting to look like an egg!) and happy to be able to spend the rest of the day with my family. Thanks to all at Lima Beads who make this madness happen each year!

Happy Easter Everyone!!! Really enjoyed participating in the Easter Egg Hunt! I just placed my order and selected my prizes with the eggs that I found. Have to bake a ham and roasted vegetables for Easter dinner, but, who knows, I may continue to look for eggs after our Easter celebration just because it’s so fun! Good luck to everyone still looking for eggs! Have a great day! Greetings from Portland, Oregon!

Show your creations, tell a bit about them, what elements were used from Lima Beads & ask questions if you have any. Also, give feedback to others who post–positive, constructive criticism is welcome. We’re quite a friendly bunch!

First of all I would like to thank the Lima Team for another fun Egg Hunt. Unfortunatelly it’s over for me since it’s bedtime here in Greece. I hope things won’t change dramatically within the next 10 hours and I will stay in the top ten.
I have one last question. It had never occured to me all these years, that I should look in the Lima blog for eggs!!! Don’t ask me why! Should I look in each post, even in the comments? And should I go through all of the archives of the Lima blog?
Thanks again and congratulations to everyone who made it in the top 100.

Not sure if this can be answered, but I’m stuck at 67 beads. Once I search a section, then do I have to go back through each category as well? For ex. for the gemstone section, I looked under the Shop by Color section. Now do I have to go back & search under the By Shape section? Thanks!

As always, this was extremely enjoyable. I so wanted to get on the leader board this year. My job was eliminated, so I thought I’d have all the time in the world. But this week my brother was hospitalized and had a tumor removed from his brain sheath and I was at the hospital every chance I got. He’s the only immediate family member I have left…so yeah…priorities. I’ve also been dealing with a gallbladder that is scheduled to come out….and until my surgery date gets here, I have to rely heavily on pain medication (don’t worry, I’ve been getting rides to the hospital, I won’t drive with those things in my system). Looking for eggs on pain meds is a whole new level of fun. Lol!! And then there was the rather large cat that insisted on lying across my legs while I was looking. Still…I had fun, found some eggs, and added things to my wish list. Thanks Lima Beads!!

Fun, but too many hours with no eggs. I saw items and sections I’d never seen before, which made up for the lack of eggs. I should have started days ago, not this afternoon. Enjoyed looking at a lot of things people made, in the no egg section, that’s my favorite. Bought a lot of stuff.

What a fantastic Hunt! Loved every minute of it. I found 225 eggs so I am totally thrilled. My new strategy worked and I found so many more eggs than last year.
The eggs were very cleverly hidden – my fav find was the egg riding. Too cute for words. Thank you for showing me so much more of your stock than I normally look at, my shopping included some beautiful artist beads I didn’t even know you had on offer.
Will definitely be back next year.

What a great hunt this year! Thank you to Steve and the Lima bead crew for this “agony and ecstasy” egg hunt every year. I knocked another item off my bucket list-I made it in the top 10! Well I tied for number 10 with 2 other people, but I still made it up there. See you again next year! Oh, and Steve-don’t know if it is possible, but I think it would be hilarious to find one giant egg in next year’s hunt, one that would take up a third of the screen. Just a suggestion. I liked the egg on the burro’s back best. Could someone clarify about eggs in the green section at the bottom. Cause rolling down on my laptop got really old and I didn’t roll to the bottom of the page every time. Were their eggs, I found one near the top of the green colored area, but were there eggs clear at the bottom of that green colored area. I know there were eggs in the sections listed in the green area, but actually just sitting on that green background?

Thanks, Steve & everyone else for a wonderful week.
