“journey to Lhasa”

Description from MH: In our lifetimes we have never had to face a threat so deadly and personal as what we face now. This is something our ancestors faced, in history books- something we never imagined could touch us in the 21st century. Now we need to do our most immaculate and grittiest best for our families (and humanity.) We do what we have to do, as well as we can.

Well said. Actually the possibility of another pandemic has been predicted by scientists all along. There was a group put together to stay on top of things – like would have caught this one in the beginning. Sadly, the group was disbanded in the early part of the current administration. If still in effect, that group would have known about it from the very beginning. But whether they could have done much is up for debate. Hopefully, the next administration will get back up to speed. Sorry for the mini-rant but it had to be said.

And yes, most of us know what we have to do to prevent the spread, so its up to us solely.

Nancy, we all have these mini-rants inside us. Never apologize for your honesty. It’s up to us to make changes in November.

Well said Nancy and Melody! It is the young people who don’t believe it is real. They reported on our local news about a young man (30) up state from where I live in Texas, who told his doctor shortly before he died of Covid, that he guess he made a mistake and wished he had not gone to the Covid party. A group of young people who didn’t believe the disease is real have been having these parties where they invite a friend or acquaintance who has Covid to a party with their other friends.
How sad for their families that their child would put themselves into that situation.

Thank you MH, for this offering of serenity in the midst of a disastrous plague. When those in the position of leadership shirk their responsibility they betray their country. In the early 50s, I and 2 of my older sisters had polio. One of my sisters, only 14 yrs old, was left with a paralized leg. The other, about 18, almost had to spend the rest of her life in an iron lung. But, miraculously she recovered, and I recovered without hospitalization. It was an exhausting nightmare for my Mom and Dad who volunteered long hours helping at the hospital. We all need to continue to lift up the nurses and doctors risking their lives to save the lives of others. God bless them all.

I’m so sorry you and family Kathryn were tragically involved with polio. I remember how we lined up at school to receive the vaccine once it was made available. I hope the same thing occurs with a Covid vaccine. People will assume perfection the first time around and that’s virtualy impossible. Every year it will improve. That’s just the way it goes.

Yes God bless all the healthcare personnel who care for all the people sick with the virus. Also, we have to pray for our teachers. They are directly in the line of fire. I hope most will come up with an online method of teaching. Kids do adapt more easily. So until its safer for them to share classrooms, it makes more sense to do that.

That picture of all the kids crowded in a hallway between classes was ludicrous. What is the matter with principals and other people in position of authority. They just don’t get and I suspect they don’t want to.

Nancy, I just read your last response and couldn’t agree more. America CAN still keep our kids safe and provide food for kids whose families cannot afford groceries. And provide safe schooling to ALL American students. Rant over. Now on to congratulations. MH, this is a well-deserved POD. Congratulations!

Congrats on a beautiful POD! Someday we will all be able to go wherever and whenever we want. I can see it in my mind now. We will all be draped in our quarantine jewelry.
Nancy, what was the worst was he suspended her for sharing the video. He did rescind her suspension. The problem is that schools are not built for social distancing at any grade level.

  13. Chicky Red-haired Grammy
    Chicky Red-haired Grammy says:

Today, the US has exceeded 5 million confirmed covid-19 cases. And the school superintendent of that school district maintains he cannot mandate face masks!

Right … back in the early ’60′s, prior to busing to and from schools, it was MANDATED that girls were not allowed to wear slacks in school, even when the temp was below zero. If you did wear them under your skirt to walk to school, they had to be removed and left in your locker.

And do NOT get me started on the parents who refuse to vaccinate their children. My mother was a survivor of the last epidemic in Minneapolis. Although she was told she would never walk again, she mandated that she had to get out of the wheelchair … she did but had to use a 6 lb. metal leg brace for the rest of her life.

So this is my rant for the day. Obviously, this excellent POD triggered a deep response. And, BTW, I believe if that superintendent had been a female, she WOULD have mandated face masks!

Take care and stay safe …. xo

Thank you for an inspiring journey to Lhasa, MH.
Your message really resonates! And many thanks to ALL the beaders who wrote comments about the crisis we all face today. I read your messages today, and I feel uplifted. Truth and kindness will prevail.

I”M so glad that you all contributed to making this pick kinda special! Thank you. And to Chicky Red-Haired Grammy: Al through my school years I had to wear dresses or skirts. About 4 years after I graduated from high school all of the students staged a walk-out. After that they got to wear pants and blue jeans! (I will never forget all the knee sox and nylons and blizzards!)
