I think as soon as I saw these paper beads for the first time I knew I had to put them into earrings. Unfortunately I really wanted to use the large saucer but it was just too heavy on my ears. As it turns out the medium saucers were a much better fit. I wanted to give the paper beads an earthier feel, so I paired them with turquoise bead chain and a snippet of leather lace. The leverbacks ear wires are my go-to for earrings, especially ones like this that will probably swing when I move.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 2 leverback ear wires
  • 2 medium paper bead discs
  • 4 3 bead or 4 1" section of bead chain
  • 4" length of soft leather lacing cut up the middle
  • 2 3" lengths of wire
  • 4 seed beads or small beads

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1

Cut your chain into four lengths of three beads each or four 1" lengths.
Cut your leather lace lengthwise up the middle, giving you two sections.

Step 2

Attach one end of the bead chain to the wire by forming a wire wrapped loop. Then string on a seed bead, your paper saucer, and another seed bead. Attach this to the bead chain again by forming a wire wrapped loop. You are essentially forming a bead link out of the seed beads and paper.

See Tip: Wire Wrap a Bead Link

Step 3

Take one of your lengths of leather and string through the top ends of your bead chain, forming a triangle. Tie a knot, then string the leather through the loops in the ear wires, knotting couple more times. Secure the knot with a dab of adhesive.

Step 4

Repeat theses steps for the other ear.
