Delightful Donut

About this design:

OMG! I goofed! This is an agate not a jasper! It's called blossom agate. I can't always tell the difference if it isn't obvious.

Agate like jasper is a versatile stone with an endless variety of colors and patterns. I particularly love the warm autumn colors and the pattern in this pendant. It works well with the copper embellishment and the copper chain that has suede leather woven through the links.
The third picture is of the back which is almost as interesting as the front.

blossom agate, copper, suede

I love this very natural. I actually like the back better. Like the jagged wire look instead of the swirles. I do love all your swirl work, but with this I like the back. love love

OMGosh Nancy! I love, love, love this! FAV!

How do you get your wire work to be so uniform!
(I really want to know how to do that!)
I love both sides, but those “jagged edges” are amazing! And the leather running through the chain….perfect!

It takes time and patience and LOTS of practice, Mary. Start with a smaller gauge, like 24ga, practice and don’t get impatient. Of course you can always throw a screaming fit when the wire doesn’t do what you want then go back to practicing. Trudge, trudge. :D

Agate or jasper, either way it’s a beautiful rock that has been turned into a beautiful piece of jewelry. Don’t feel bad about the goof – one of the gals at the LBS is a rockhound, and a lot of time she can can’t tell excactly what things are. And of course, some stones have more than one name – depending upon the source and the marketing.

  32. Little Round Chick

Practice, Betty, lots of practice. I can’t begin to tell you how many feet, yards, miles of copper wire I have gone through trying to get just one really good design. This is probably the first, last and only one I’ll ever do that will turn out this well. Fate can be so cruel. :D

  34. C Strecker
    C Strecker says:

This is an incredible piece. You made the chain links for the necklace too?! You must tell me how you did it! I would be tempted to take a 1/4″ copper pipe and cut small slices off, anneal them and then twist…no? Please do tell!
congrats on a totally awesome piece!

  35. Little Round Chick
    Little Round Chick says:

Sadly, I didn’t make the copper chain. I’m not that skilled anymore. I don’t remember where I got it and that’s a crying shame cause I’d buy all of it I could afford. :D
