Sweet Lariat

About this design:

I had a large copper washer sitting on my desk that looked like it would make a dandy lariat clasp. I decided to use a double strand of green nylon catfish line for the necklace and accent it with chunks of red coral, copper wire and tiny copper sealing washers (obtained from Grainger). I started by wrap-looping a couple of chunks of coral to the large washer with 18G copper wire. Next I pulled the twine though the last loop and secured it with a "trinity" knot. Finally I wrap-looped a few more chunks of coral for the opposite ends of the lariat, adding some small washers to balance the larger one and secured those with trinity knots. Finally I cut the ends short and burned them with a lighter so that it won't fray. One picture shows the necklace laid out flat. The I tried (emphasis on tried - OK) to take a picture of the necklace while I was wearing it.

60 pound nylon fishing (Rosary) twine, chunks of coral, 18G copper wire, copper washers - large for the clasp and small for accent.

Thank you all!!!!! This is such a comfortable necklace to wear – it makes a big and bold statement without being heavy. It is perfect for outdoor functions – the metal will not get hot when the sun shines on it. This would also be perfect for someone with metal sensitivity as there is no prolonged exposure of metal to skin. Katherine
