Pendant--Triplet of Boulder Opals

About this design:

A friend handed me three gorgeous boulder opals and asked me to create a pendant for her mom using all three. Mom, by the way, is also a jewelry designer. No pressure there. ;0

The fire in the opals begged for an active design so that it could show to greatest effect. So, I worked out a triplet of wire-wrapped stones attached via the wrap of the half-moon-shaped largest opal.

    2. OH MY GOODNESS — What a stunning pendant you’ve created using those gorgeous Boulder opals!!! Fantastic wirework — love the way you connected them! :D Just curious — What are the dimensions of the pendant?

    3. Your friend’s mother is going to be thrilled when she sees this — what a great daughter she has and what a lucky mother she is! 8)

    Hi Lynn,
    3. My friend promised a report after New Years’.

    2. The pendant is approximately 2 inches long (from the top of the bail to the tip of the dangling stones) by 1 1/4 inches wide. The lavender dangling opal is 25mm x 15mm.

    1. Oh, it’s so good to know I’ve been missed here at LB. I’ve missed participating. I’ve been so busy that something had to give and that was my fun times at LB. I increased the reach of my weekend shows–the majority out of my immediate area on most weekends. With the new markets that I opened, my summer weekdays were filled with keeping up with demand. Then, I’m a substitute teacher and have been “discovered” by the science and math teachers–they now specifically request me. So when school is in, I have even less time for fun.

To all–know I think of you and do check in to see what y’all are up to. I just don’t participate in uploading and commenting because I know that draws me into a time-warped vortex.

Yes, indeed! You have been missed, Gayle! :-D
It IS great to see you here again!

You did a phenomenal job with the Boulder Opal! I do believe it would be a TINY bit intimidating to create for another jeweler! You pulled it off gloriously!

You mentioned weekend shows. Are they Art shows or they pertaining to your lovable pooches? :-D
Reguardless, I hope you did well!

I do understand about that time-warped vortex! I visit LB nearly everyday and try my best to be as brief as possible………not always very successful at that. ;-)

Glad you checked in, gave us a little update and posted this beauty!!

    Happy New Year, Gayle!!

    Thanks for the kind words.
MaryS.–the shows were art fairs and weekend outdoor markets (that juried only high end arts/crafts).

The performance at shows that I’ve done consistently for a number of years was good–some at 2008 levels. At a few, this year doubled over my best year. However, I can attribute that to (1) a customer following, (2) better understand of the markets, (3) positive and active customer service-interaction.

For the weekend markets where I do different ones on a rotation, I think it helped to have a flyer that told customers where I’d be and when I’d be back. I know I sold several items simply because the customer said “it might not be here” the next time my booth was at that market.

As for #3, Violet, I’m sure you’ve also noted that where the artist greets the customer and is proactive about talking about their work, those artists do better sales. I’ve made a study of it and have noted that the complainers who don’t see are also the ones sitting on their duffs ignoring the customer.

Sorry this got long–but it’s my end-of-year eval and deciding what markets/shows to reprise next year. So, your query was along my line of thoughts.

It sounds like you have done very well this year. I am so happy for you !!!!
I agree with you on all counts…. and I too have experienced a very good year and especially the fall season !!
i do have many repeat customers, that follow me to the shows…. I also hand out fliers as to the next show in the area….
And talking , interacting with the customers is key… and I have found that some who didn’t buy initially , did come back….
And of course, the juried shows seem to be the most profitable …. but there have been some surprises at some smaller shows as well….
This year has definitely been a learning experience as to which shows do better and which ones to not do again…. I already have shows lined up for next year… with two starting in january, one smaller Art Show and one large high end Art Festival….
Here’s to a Happy New Year and great sales for all !!!!!

Opalgem101–you are so right the people in the community here are great–their designs (real and virtual picks are inspiring, their comments both supportive and informative. The designs and Fresh Picks often help me through a problem with construction or color combination. You may be inspired by us now, but I hope you stay and continue posting! You too will be one of the inspirers shortly.

Violet–that’s great about new shows coming up soon. Good luck in them!!!!
