In the Raw Pendant

About this design:

I've had some raw mineral beads that I didn't know what to do with for a long time. While playing with the wire I came up with this design. The shell isn't raw or a mineral, but it is natural and I thought it brought an interesting dimension to the design.

At first I wasn't going to post this, but the raw minerals are just too cool for me not to share. I guess it's just the rockhound in friends and family have always told me I get waaay to excited about rocks and minerals! lol

Brass and copper wire, pyrite cube, Sodalite, rough jasper, Mother of Pearl shell

Hi Olive~~~~This is really cool. The Sodalite is especially pretty. I think it would look nice hanging from a leather belt,or a purse?
I understand the love of rocks. Have bored people to tears, talking about the flecks of copper in Sunstone,or how many varieties of Garnet are out there! I always think it’s odd that other people don’t find it fascinating…LOL

Thanks! Nancy, I do the same thing…I teach geology labs, and many a times I’ve had students tell me, ‘boy, you’re really excited about these rocks!’ Usually, it’s a good thing, but I’ve annoyed a few of them…oh well, I guess rocks aren’t for everyone. Though like you I don’t quite understand it…each to their own…lol :)

Very unusual design, Olive. Love the rocks you’ve used.

What’s not to love about rocks? One of my favorite books when I was teaching was a Caldecott winner titled “Everybody Needs a Rock” by Byrd Baylor.

Thanks! I’ve must agree, there’s not a thing to not love about rocks, and everyone does in fact need a rock.

I haven’t read that book. I’ll have to check it out to pass along to any budding young nature lovers I know! Thanks for the reference!
