Odd Stone Out

About this design:

Here's a simple dangle, with stones you don't see often very often. I'm interested in rocks that have something "going on" color change,or sedimentation in them. The focal bead is Muscovite, which looks great in sunlight. I complimented them with some Sunstone heishi beads, and added a couple of Labradorites for contrast.

Muscovite Ovals,Sunstone Heishi beads,Labradorite rondelles,SP wire,and SS ear wires.

Ooooh, Nancy! I love your earring designs and this is no exception! What a lovely combo of gems/colors/textures! I love the length, too — I always wear long “danglies” — that’s what my 6-year-old granddaugher has called them since she was 3!!! :D

These are beautiful, muscovite mica is a wonderful mineral/stone, very shiny and glittery.

Oh I like this!! Love how you’re mixing these gems together!
OK, you gem savvy people, here’s a question for you. Are muscovite and sunstone related to each other in the gem world? Since they both have that sparkle…….just wondering.

Very pretty color combo, Nancy. The grey and peach are an unexpected pairing that works very well.

Just to let you know, sunstone is a feldspar (think labradorite) and muscovite is a mica–usually very thin sheets and flaky. In fact it’s used in some toothpaste to make it ‘sparkly’, makeup, and can be used for lampshades, dollhouse windows, and a long time ago was used for house windows. The shine and sparkle has to do with the cut, structure, etc.
