Volcanology - red thread and beads necklace

About this design:

Volcanoes and earthquakes are just two of the signs that New Zealand is geologically active. We stand astride two of the world's major tectonic plates - the Pacific plate and the Indo-Australian plate.

This necklace celebrates our volcanoes - vibrant thick red embroidery thread is threaded with seed beads and crystals, then crocheted, wrapped and twisted into a volcanic swirl of thread and beads to form to the main part of the necklace.

Crocheted thread forms the connector between the necklace and the clasp. The clasp is a button on one side and a crochted loop on the other.

This is the first necklace I’ve made with no metal findings such as chain, wire wraps or metal clasps. It was made for a friend who had developed a skin sensitivity to metals.

DMC perle 5 red thread, red button, seed beads sizes 6, 8 and 11, 6mm red crystal rondelles.

What a beautiful necklace! I love the combination of crochet and beads; such artistry :) and a nice choice for someone with sensitivity to metals, as your friend.
Will have to attempt this someday, but for now will admire your talent. Love the color red as well. Thanks for sharing. And oh, how I would love to visit NZ. I have a friend there :)
