Big Hearted

About this design:

Having some fun with stress relief today. This is a 3x3 heart, nice and big. Fold formed and 'ruffled' on the edges using my round nose pliers. Modeled after a design I saw in Wire Jewelry, theirs was small & made as a bracelet. I wire wrapped some copper tubing, and also added some jumprings with seed beads threaded on them.

Copper sheet, copper wire & chain

Very pretty Cindy! I like the little touches of color because it makes the colors in the heart really shine.

Thank you. There haven’t been any metal work classes at the art school or rec center yet, so I’m trying to pick things up from the magazines. This is a second one – smaller, and with some blue patina.

Love this Cindy. Did you cut your own heart out of metal?

  9. Beadlady3 aka Cindy
    Beadlady3 aka Cindy says:

@RockyD- thanks & yes, I cut the hearts using a ‘fold-formed’ method. Like you used to do as a kid with red construction paper! Heat the metal so it softens up, fold it in half, cut out the heart, then open it back up. But in this case we leave a little of the fold in place to add some dimension.

Wow, what a fun technique! Love the ruffled edge and the texture is just plain great. What gauge sheet copper did you use? And…You did cut this with snips I assume…? :D
