Deep in the Forest

About this design:

Here's Big Ball disguised with Vintaj patina. My very first attempt with the patina paints, so be kind!
I ordered these glass turning leaves and was horrified at their size (you'd think I'd learn to read the descriptions). I knew they'd be the right proportion for BB. Pearls and large black rounds to pull out the accent on the edges of the leaves.
Heidi must be a "green girl" since she was all over this project.

Big Ball. Filligree ring. Stuff from my stash.

Ok Becky! YOUR turn! Get brave and post!
I have one more to complete in a different color scheme. It will have to wait until tomorrow.

Hannah liked the first project and Heidi was all over the second. My girls are so crazy. They couldn’t care less about the beads. I leave stuff out all over the dining room table and they never touch it. Every now and then Heidi will bring me one of the little plastic bags.

I was in a hurry before trying to get mine uploaded so now I have to comment some more! :) I love how you have put the double strand of smooth pearls opposite those very cool twisted leaves! THis is perfectly balanced. I think you did a great job with the patina!! Any worries you had over not measuring up can blow away, chickie! This is MAHVELOUS!

Julie I don’t know why you were being so critical of your BB designs before posting them. This is lovely. The 2 strands of pearls opposite the glass beads is perfect. More of those glass beads. Those things are unusual and striking. You must have quite a stash!

Big and beautiful!! The leaves is perfect in this design. Great work :D
Big necklaces are modern right now, at least here in Swe, so this big ball challange is perfect in time. Thank you, Julie! I have bought myself a second ball ;)
Love your cats. Heidi seems to be really interested in this ball project.

I think you did a fab job on the patina! I’ve recently bought some of the patina paints but haven’t worked up the courage to use them. The necklace turned out beautiful!

    Julie Shane says:

MM: I bought the glaze when I bought my paints. I found it gives a more subtle color. Easier to layer and let other colors “show through.”
Warning: It’s messy. Or maybe *I’m* messy. I got it all over my fingers and I’m afraid my nails are permanently died! ;)

I can’t wait to use the patina paints on “real” jewelry.

Wow, are you sure this is the first time you used patinas, excellent job, Julie. Love how you balanced the sides, those glass leaves are gorgeous.Heidi seems to be enjoying your creation.

I have a varied “craft” background. I’ve done Tole painting, dry brush on pottery, watercolors and pastel pencils in high school, lots of different techniques with inks in college. This is my first venture with paints and metals. They do take the paints a little differently and I love the advantage of removing some of the paint and letting the metal show through. I have a handful of Vintaj blanks, so have I lots to play with over Christmas holiday break. :)

I like it! The turning glass lightens the look of the BB and the circle. You must have a wonderful stash.

Big Ball certainly gets around! Love it!

When I order on line I always have a ruler with metric measurements handy cause I don’t do metrics. It’s like Greek to me. :D

  16. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

I bet kitty wants to bat the BB all over! Great design Julie! The patina looks great, too! I never quite get the size descriptione right, either. Even WITH a ruler!

Another great design! Love the asymmetry of this one. I have the same trouble with metric, except things are usually smaller than I expect. ;)
