Teal Blossom

About this design:

After I made the Waterlilies necklace for my Mom I had stuff left over. I had also bought this flower because I thought I had ruined the ribbon slide with the patina (nail polish rescued). This flower set on a square filigree piece. Too big and pointy edges. So I cut it into 4 pieces and filed every edge. Then I used these pieces as connectors. I punched holes in the flower petals to attach it. Also the flower is 3 pieces which I had to join together differently now that they no longer had the filigree. So a headpin goes down into and comes out through a large earring back. I also added a crystal in the flower center and put a dab of nailpolish on the head for color. I did not patina the flower or the filigree pieces. They were teal already. I also had brass beads with patina, dusty teal shell pearls, and brass leaves left. A generous friend gave me some amazonite nuggets and green flourite.

Two photos included of The Butterball Babies.

In case you have noticed, most of my photos are staged on this rock. I will even take them over so they are on it. This is because this rock is My Rock. I've had it since I was 5. It moves everywhere with me. It sat under a snowball bush in the yard and I used to sit on it and daydream.

Metal green patina flower. Metal green patina filigree connectors. Brass beads with Vintaj patina Marine. Dusty aqua shell pearls 12mm (from muddy spring mix). Green and pink AB crystals 6mm. Amazonite nuggets. Green flourite tubes. 2 kinds brass beadcaps. Brass spacer beads. Brass leaves. Brass fancy and plain jump rings. Brass chain. Brass lobster claw clasp.

Love the piece and the kittens! When did you become a kitty mom? Your re-purposing of the original flower piece is great. Love the colors too. Can I have a kitten??? Just kidding. They are sweet though.

This is really pretty Deb. I like the soft patina on the findings. Pretty pearls and glass. :)

I am *still* in love with your babies. If they are girls… I’m driving up to get them during Spring Break. *If* you are still willing to part with them. Yep… They are fat and happy little ones! :) :) :)

Thank you Maria, Anna, Julie, JC, and Susie. Just so everyone knowa I did not patina the flower and the filigree piece. I was lucky and it was green already.
    Yes Susie its MacGyver…lol.
Julie I’m pretty sure they are boys. I hate to disappoint you as far as the sex goes. Its haes to tell at this age but that area has 2 distinct little bumps at the bottom.

What a beautiful job you did on this! Such a soft color too. Making your own pieces to work into it make it so much more special. Also-those little kitty beads are the cutest ones I’ve ever seen!!

Wow, Deb! you outdid yourself here!!! So cool that you could use bluish amazonite and greenish fluorite with the colors of the metal!! Don’t you just love it when that works out? ;) The brass parts add the perfect finish. I am totally impressed with both your jewelry making and your MacGyvering skills! And those 2 chubby yin and yang kitties are adorable!!!!!!

Becky that flourite and amazonite match more in color this photo shows really. I think laying on the rock changes them some. You think I outdid myself here. I still think my Mom’s waterlilies set and the brown cashmere set for me are the 2 best pieces I’ve done. But I’ve had this flower piece since before Christmas and I was tired of it just sitting there. A waste of $3.99…a horrible crime!!! Want to know why I work on MacGyvering things so much? Because I want pieces
that other people would have difficulty replicating. I want jewelry that’s just.different enough that people notice.

The kitties…OMG they are the fattest little kitty babies for only 1 week old. And the eyes are just starting to open. They are already used to me pickinf them up and rubbing them. They stretch and move to get a better rub. Its funny.

Thanky you Becky..I’m really glad you like the necklace.

Fantastic piece! I love the color and all the components used…great job. The story of your rock is charming. I used to have a spot in the attic of the house I grew up in. It had this wonderful little round window. I sat at that window and felt like I was up in heaven…daydreamed for hours up there! LOL

I am just as excited about the rock you sat on as a child as your necklace . I wish I had a piece of my childhood to carry around :-( . I used to sit under a certain tree in my yard and eat strawberries… thus a patch grew where I tossed my leftovers. They are special places, aren’t they?

  26. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Becky I think my A game kicks in when I do things with chain, filigree, feminine looks and where I have to overcome some challenge to complete it. I don’t think Im as good at just straight up beading. I don’t really think anything I’ve done like that is that good.

HaHa you’re funny rootware about the rock. My Dad actually threw it in the ditch across the street once. I came home from school and started crying my eyes out. He had to get the wheelbarrow and rescue it I upset. My Mom remembers none of that.

Yes they are special places. And you’re.usually the only person that remembers your special place. The rock and a few pieces of childhood jewelry are.really all I have though

Deb, this necklace is gorgeous! I love how you made it so unique — definitely one-of-a-kind! You have a real gift for “MacGyvering”! Hmmmm Is that a word? If not, it is now! 8) LOL

The kittens are adorable! If they’re small enough, you could make them into a pair of earrings…..LOL!!! Of course, they might weigh you down once they start growing….. ;)

  32. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Lynn thank you. I bet the people that started the show MacGyver had no idea they were introducing new DIY terminology into the the english language. All derivations of the name should be accepted in the dictionary (my opinion).

Those kitty babies are way too fat already.
    Chunky babies.

Deb, the necklace is gorgeous, love the color scheme and the babies are so adorable, I never was a cat person due to allergies until we took home a cat that was very mistreated, we nurtured her back to health, but it was her emotional scars that took very long to heal, she still is afraid of certain situations.
