Former Life

About this design:

This pendant had a former life as an earring, in the late 1980's. (So I have another) It hung in a clip-on design thing that was actually pierced. It was cheap goldish looking metal. But the earring was beautiful. Its glass. My design combines things from 2 recent book purchases (amazon gift card from coke reward points). The macrame book I mentioned before & "Bohemian-Inspired Jewelry" by Lorelei Eurto & Erin Siegel. The bail treatment is from that book. It is just.half hitch knots. The end of the necklace is also half hitch knots again with the small seed bead added.

Butter Ball came out from under the couch with one Princess Leia ear so I did the other one. Photo of him & Daddy Mousey in window.

White & Purple glass pendant. Czech purple druks. Alexandrite crystals. Amethyst glass pearls. Lilac freshwater pearls. Purple & lilac larger seed beads. TOHO wisteria seed beads. Copper toggle. S-lon cord.

Thanks Nancy and Asia. The seed bead part is really not that hard. On this one I was working back toward the pendant though because I had only one strand.

Mousey is a laid back cat most of the time. He LOVES BB.

Lovely work, my dear!!! How many strands do you have going from the pendant up through each bead? My biggest hassle is beads with holes that are too darn tiny for these cool threads. Looks like your collection worked great! LOVE it!! And that kitty….. well you know how I feel about BB and Mousey! :) You are one lucky and fabulous kitty-mama!

Becky its one strand. In fact it’s one long cord. I did a larks head in the middle of the cord on the pendant. Then I did about 5 half hitches on either side, adding a seed bead on the next to last one. That left me with a long length of cord on either side to string. When I got all the pearls, beads on that I wanted I knotted it and measured against another necklace. I left a lenght of empty cord up to the toggle and knotted it on. Then I was.working backward doing half hitches back toward tje necklace.

I also hate beads that the holes are too small, which usually happens with pearls. If only one cord will go.through and I’m using more than one I just run tje other beside the bead with a knot on either side. What else can you do??

BB & Mousey are my special boys. They are so spoiled.

    Thank you everyone.

Okay question…I’m thinking of using the other earring as the clasp.with a toggle and making it match this necklace. What so you think?

Way to repurpose the earring. Awesome job.

The necklace is so pretty with so many details to looks.

I really like the seed bead part. Is that a half hitch?

Ahhhh. Now I see why you said you were working backwards. excellent! I tried a few braids with the strings loaded with beads and found out that you can really get yourself in knots with the big beads. :)
