THE Red Cuff

About this design:

I don't usually work with red or at least this much red. Color wise it is outside my comfort zone. But I wanted to play around with a number of reds and shade off into yellows and oranges so this was the results.

14 and 24ga copper wire, red druk beads, velvet red glass beads, red miracle beads, FP red, orange and yellow Czech beads and my favorite FP Czech beads...fuchsia and cantaloupe from LB!

This is super-cool! The colors, the design, everything about it! Do you plan out the bead design within the frame–or does it just come together? I love how the center section looks like a butterfly amidst a beautiful patch of flowers! Great job! :)

Oh, I forgot to ask, do you use one super long piece of 24 gauge wire or smaller sections? I really do want to try this one out! Thanks. :)

Gee whiz. You all make the start of my day really great. Thanks for the compliments. :)

Crystal Canary, when I make one of these cuffs I plan the shape of the frame and the colors I will use but the arrangement of the beads isn’t really planned. As I’m working I may see a pattern take shape that will give me an idea then go from there. The color is planned but the design is more random.
The 24ga wire will get work hardened so any length more than about 18 inches gets to be a hassle. Most of the time I use about a 16 inch length. Then there is the problem of a long wire getting kinked and brittle and basically a pain to use. I’ve probably made every mistake that is possible when stringing beads and the most important thing I’ve learned is using more than 16 -18 inches can drive you mad and make you mutter unprintable words. :D
