Birds in the Tree

About this design:

I was curious about the paper beads so when I saw a strand at a flea market, I bought it. I Love the colors and the lightness and lightheartedness of the beads; a nice happy feeling! This was basically a "just for fun piece."

African paper beads, some red beads I've had forever, bird pendant and cross from my stash and seed beads and jasper rondelles from LB.

Judy, This is so fun and definitely radiates happiness! I love what you did with the rizo(?) seed beads in between the paper beads–they give your necklace that playful feeling. The silk in the back completes the look. I’m lovin’ the pendant too! :)

N.Taylor – I’m guessing this is something like paper mache; shellac would help to protect the beads. I haven’t researched it; I’m afraid I’d start making them, and I haven’t any more space for beads!

  17. A Little Pizzaz aka Judy
A Little Pizzaz aka Judy says:

Warped Wire Studio – Thanks for the encouragement. I bought the a string of crosses at a bead store on Sixth Avenue in NYC a couple of years ago. Very inexpensive. Sorry, but I don’t recall the name of the store; it may have been NY Beads. As I mentioned previously, I got the bird pendant from Happy Mango Beads.

I’ve seen a kit for making paper beads somewhere (might even have been at LB!), as well as instructions at various other sites and magazines. So there definitely is a risk one can’t stop oneself from trying someday… Decoupage glue might be a choice. I’m actually testing making some, but using jeans fabric instead of paper, right now — but I’m not sure I will ever finish them, or use them for anything…

Now after I have seen your pieces I’m going to dust of my paper beads :D
