Colors of Amazonite

About this design:

I'm posting these in case some of you other ladies didn't know that Amazonite comes in many colors. Who knew? I thought it was always blue. (So many minerals,so little time.) Here are 2 simple stretchies in the assorted colors, and some lovely pale blue.

Components:

Faceted and smooth Amazonite in 10MM,pewter beads,14MM Onyx,GP spacer beads, and brass beads. 1mm "stretch magic" brand nylon cord.

Wow!! Simple but beautiful. I like both bracelets equally for the differences in Amazonite.

I didn’t know this! Love the subtle faceted beads in the first bracelet. Thanks for educating me.

    Amazonite black tourmaline???
I love them but especially the top one. I have issues making stretch bracelets. Mine always look *unround* wonky. I need to work on that.

    Simple elegance! Beautiful.

Can someone tell me how to hide the knot when making these? Seems I never have a bead with a large enough hole for it to slide into……so I don’t make them. :-(
Deb, mine get “unround” wonky sometimes too. Another reason I don’t make these.

Thanks ladies! I hear what you’re saying about getting them “round.” I think it’s just trial and error. I tend to use uniform sized beads, and that helps.
About the knot thing. That can be a pain. I’ve learned to try to look for beads that have at least a 1MM hole drilled. I’m not comfortable using a thinner cord. Always afraid they will break. I also use a focal with a larger hole. (Such as the big Onyx,or the brass beads that I used to hide the knot.) There’s always that little moment when you’re not sure it’s gonna fit.
I like to tie at least 3 square knots.

These are gorgeous Nancy! I’m partial to the first one with the onyx focal bead. I also choose a focal bead that has a larger hole so that the knot will fit. I have one other trick I use. I put a dab of jewelers glue on the knot and slide it inside the bead while the glue is still wet. I feel like that makes the knot iron clad and won’t come undone.

I’m cracking up at the unround wonky woes here…lol. I really think mine get that way because I try to make them too tight…but who knows..

These are delicious Nancy! Kudos to using the stretch cording….I shy away from it. I always fear the possibility that it will snap at an in-opportune time and place….like church or the mall! LOL

Thanks Angela. You know,I think I remember that hint about the glue. I need to remember that.
Beadaholic,I worry about breakage too. So far,so good. I’ve tied the knot a little tight sometimes, and twwwannng-o. Then I start over with a little more restraint,LOL ;)

Very elegant and classic. I like stretch bracelets because they are so effortless to put on.

I think stretch bracelets are much more comfortable to wear, but do have the same worries about breakage, so so far have only made them for myself and close friends. I love both of your bracelets. They are really what I would love to wear. Amazonite with black is one of my favorite stones and I got some nice ones from LB a couple of times.

Hi Batticat..I do the same thing. so far,all my friends have said no breakage, and they wear them all the time. I’m really tough on my own bracelets, and so far so good.As ia said,I usually use 1MM cord. I love them because they’re so easy. Saw one in Macy’s that is Onyx and crystal focal for $130! Yeah, right. ;)
I went home and copied it,to the tune of $8.00

Beautiful! Another tip I found is to really stretch the nylon cord before you make the bracelet – at least ten times and don’t be gentle! :-) This reduces the risk of snapping and also stretching out too much after you have made it. My biggest problem is always finding a focal stone to hide the knot in that I like and complements the lovely stones I am using. Anyone have any good suggestions for large hole metal or other beads that they like? I usually use beads 6-8mm so I would’t want a focal much over 10 mm.

Hi P Gillooley. Thanks for that tip. I will use that tonight.
I like anything pewter, with a hole at least 1 1/2 MM. The ones I used were from a craft store, and I think they look like Bali silver. I really do. You might like the Pave’ Beads from Lima. They have a nice look, and a large hole as well. Good luck!

Nancy, Your amazonite combination with the onyx and silver is stunning! I must say that stretch bracelets are a favorite of mine too, and I wear them all the time. They’re super easy to stack and create all different kinds of looks. I also tend to keep with the 1mm stretch cord when the design will allow for it. Do we all have paranoia about them breaking and spilling all over the floor? I know I do! :)
