Fun with acid and electricity

About this design:

Who says you can't have fun with acid and electricity?!?!?!?!? This is an aspen leaf the I pulled from one of my trees, I dried it and then electroformed it. It's a little bit of a process and takes not caring about your manicure -PMC is worse! After it was done I cleaned it up, polished it, drilled 2 holes in it and called it good after I added my wire work.

The process is fairly easy, start with a dried leaf, apply the varnish, paint with graphite paint. Once paint is dry wrap (loosely) with copper wire and put in the acid solution. Connect the electrodes and turn on the electricity. Once that's done clean it off and polish it.

Components:

dried and e-formed aspen leaf, leather, natural freshwater pearl, copper wire (18 & 20)

Lord, but this is beautiful! It just looks so pure. That’s the best word I can come up with at this moment. Love the contrast between the shiny and matte areas on the leaf – more texture that way. Also, the clasp system is outstanding. Definitely a fave!

Wow! Thanks for all the great comments! I am planning to electroform some stuff tomorrow, so maybe I can takes pics and post the process. The link above shows the process too but it’s a bit looooooooong….

I have a short attention span and I tend to get bored easily and quickly so I have to keep trying new things. I’ve always been drawn to metal work and find all the different types of it amazing. Don’t forsee casting in my future, too expensive and I have small kids. Not to mention a husband that doesn’t want and won’t share his garage! But said husband also is understanding and accepting of a messy house.

Instead of housework everyday I “Mom” and design! That’s how I teach myself new stuff!
