Hawaiian surf

About this design:

Like Hawaiian leaves, this beaded lei is done with Ogalala butterfly stitch. I use one color for the beads that link the rows. In this version, the rows are each a different color. (I arranged the lei in a rectangle to fit on the background.)

Components:

Czech seed beads, Fireline

The relaxing blue of the surf and sky make this one relaxing piece to look at and most likely to wear.

I am always in awe of anyone who “sews beads”! Your necklaces came out beautiful. That’s a really cool stitch too.

I’ve always wanted to do Oglala Butterfly stitch, but have apparently permanently misplaced the instructions. One would think, after beading for 22 years and subscribing to almost every beading magazine that it would have appeared more than once… at any rate, I love this. The colors are great together. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t love wearing this!

I really like the placement of the lighter beads evenly spaced between the darker blue ones, and how it creates an effect that can be said to reflect an ocean wave. Another very nice necklace! :)
