Great Blue Heron

About this design:

My passion for all things nature is driving my jewelry making. I found this pendant on Etsy and was thrilled. Just as I was every time I have seen a Great Blue Heron at our small pond in our housing division. When we moved here 27 years ago, we were still surrounded by undeveloped land. We knew it was a growing area and the surrounding area around us went from farmland to major development. So, now I treasure the memory of seeing this elegant bird stop at our pond for rest or a drink of water. Wish every day to see this bird again.

I used Labradorite, two different Czech beads, and a silver clasp all from LB. The pendant again I found on Etsy. The two tassels I made from the light blue swede sold here at Lima Beads.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. I am so appreciative of these comments. I have had a lot happening personally this year, but my resolve to express this lifelong hunger to express myself artistically has grown tremendously. If I had another life, art would be my center. So, late in life, jewelry making is scratching that itch so to speak. Know that all of you know exactly what I am talking about. I, now, have a designated room and workstation. I am sure everyone knows what that means to me. I am finally in my mind doing more than crafts! LOL

Donna, I think your inspiration is great–and how nice to create a piece that will bring those pleasant memories to mind. I really like the detail on the Heron focal; and the colors you used with it are perfect. Glad you’re posting again. How wonderful that you have carved out a space to create and find expression thru jewelry making. It helps tremendously and at the same time gives a sense of accomplishment.

Your choices of textures and colors for this piece are a grand-slam! I love the use of the two tassels to frame the heron. They bring to mind reeds swaying in a marsh.

This is a wonderful necklace Donna. I love the focal, but more than that, I love the complement of beads you used to pull it together. I am not much of a tassel fan, but they look great in this design – I may have to reconsider…:)

Creel pointed out to me that another pendant of a Heron was on another website. I couldn’t resist. So, another Heron piece will be posted. Thank you all for all your comments.

This is beautiful! Im sad the development has driven out your blue heron. I too have a pond and a blue heron been here since 1962 and still totally undeveloped and hope it never will be. There are too many people and not enough blue herons.
