For Heather

About this design:

My daughter asked me to make a pair of earrings to go with her Easter dress. I took a big gamble trying something new, but I’m still wanting to try a make things from scratch. I think these earrings turned out beautiful! Best of all- she loves them!

I hand painted a white pair of lucite bead flowers- I just love them. Added a melon round from LB. Gold findings and a little Czech glass green spacer.

These are great! I share your “from scratch” emotion, and just wish you could tell me from whence those flowers come – since LB doesn’t carry them! What did you use to paint the lucite? Did you have to prep them to make it stick to the surface?
    Excellent choices, fab work!

I used white lucite beads and alcohol ink. I also tried the colored lucite beads and the clear, but I liked the white best. I didn’t do any prep . I used Tim Holtz product. Used his mixing alcohol for cleaning between colors and to lighten colors. I let them dry over night and then put diamond glaze on them. I just cut up wire to act as stems while painting to make it easier. Wear gloves cuz the ink stains your hands. It’s fun!

Robin, Thanks for the explanation of how you achieved that lovely color on the flowers. I’ve never worked with alcohol inks, but the results are always amazing–so rich and deep. It’s nice to be creative and see the end results from the vision. Nice work!
