Learning to wire

About this design:

I've been trying to learn how to wire-basically self taught (took one class). So I made this necklace without the instructor next to me. Any tips and advice from those of you that wire (LRC) are welcome. I have family in Kingman, Arizona-thus the turquoise.

Components:

I used this beautiful turquoise/bronze Kingman pendant. 18g square dead soft wire 22g 1/2 round dead soft wire I also made a memory wire bracelet with Kingman turquoise chip and assorted findings

Robin – I love your turquoise pieces. The swirly curly wires on the pendant are so pretty. And the bracelet is so much fun. Didn’t know anything about Kingman turquoise so I looked it up. Quite a mine. Your stone is beautiful.

Robin, ah-mazing! So outstanding, yet not overly frilly. It makes the stone be the star with a beautiful simple dress up.

Robin, I don’t do much stone wrapping so I’m not a very good resource for information. There are quite a number of tutorials on you tube. You might want to check them out. Your work on this stone is way far advanced compared to what I do. Your pendant looks great to me and the bracelet is fantastic!

I love Kingman turquoise because of the matrix in it. Sleeping Beauty is beautiful but I still prefer Kingman with matrix. Every once in a while I go window shopping on line and go to some of the sites that feature HIGH end turquoise from all over the west. I don’t buy…just admire.

You’re right – it’s expensive. The pendants are still the same price that I paid about 3 yrs. ago, but the strands have really gotten expensive. I would love to make a bracelet made up of a single stone or small piece of each of the American turquoise mines. I saw one online and it was awesome. Very few places to find a single stone to buy. The few places I have found , a single stone runs around 15.00. I have a 8 inch strand of sleeping beauty- so I guess I’ll start there. I did look at you tube and then bought a book.

This is stunning. I don’t think you need any tips, I am pretty sure you have the hang of it and are a natural.

Ditto Khristin, I think your a natural too! The wrapping is wonderful, and your choice of design accentuates the stone rather than take away. The bracelet is a ‘wowzer’ too–I love the fullness you created. Wish I could take a trip up to Kingman…..;)
