Flying In The Clouds

About this design:

I am still working hard to complete my unfinished projects (even though I get distracted with other ones along the way!) When I first saw this focal, the idea of soaring high in the clouds on a breezy day came to mind--so that is the feeling I tried to capture in this design.

So the hunt began to find the right beads to convey that idea. I was delighted to find the Amethyst carved swirl rondelles in my stash, and knew I wanted to incorporate them into the piece to represent clouds. I also had tucked away some purple porcelain beads—and they actually matched the color of the pendant! It never goes that smooth, does it?! Then as usual, I had way too many ideas and couldn’t settle on one I really liked.

Anyway, here it is for now—not sure about the swirl links connected to the focal with jumprings. Thought about attaching them with waxed linen—what do you all think? What about chainmaille?

Earthenwood Ceramic Flying Bird Pendant (LB), Nunn AC Swirl Connectors (LB), Amethyst carved rondelles, Czech rondelles (LB), Grey Agate (LB), purple porcelain beads, glass crystals, AC findings.

Wow CC – I really love your necklace. I think the curly swirlys reinforce the clouds beneath the bird in the pendant. The clear beads add a wonderful airiness to the piece and the metal beads and bead caps are great. Can’t believe you found beads that match so well with the pendant. And the bracelet – Just fantastic.

Beautiful selection of components and a great design. I like the way the swirl links repeat the swirls in the focal. Makes a perfect combination with the colors you have chosen. The fantastic bracelet just adds to the whole effect. Great set!

As an avid purple devotee, this necklace is gorgeously gorgeous. I love all the beads you added to the “flight” of the bird. Plus the bracelet is wonderful. You should have a website to sell.

Thanks Everyone! I really appreciate all the thoughtful words!

Nancy, I value your vote of confidence in selling my pieces; I basically bead for myself & friends. It would be a dream to actually do this for a living, wouldn’t it? :)

LRC, I hope to make a swirl clasp for this one to match the links in front (similar to the one you made on the blue agate piece.) I just have an ‘S’ hook on it for now. Just need some time…..

Your design enhances the pendant! The sum is greater than the parts. Nice work.

This is a wonderful set CC. I enjoy the way you envision an idea and then make it happen. It sounds like everything came together like it was meant to be. The swirly links really work well I think although when you mentioned chainmaille it made me curious. What did you have in mind? I wouldn’t change a thing though. The pair are gorgeous as is. I love seeing your work. It really is inspirational. ♡

Yesterday was breezy here – I watched a crow way up in the sky – never had to beat his wings – just soared and soared – finally out of sight. Lovely summer here.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments! I appreciate the feedback as it helps me to improve my approach to creating. It’s great to get other eyes & ideas on our work because sometimes we can get tunnel-vision or hit a block. I like to try a variety of styles–it keeps beading fresh & alive for me (a lesson learned!)

DLPam– I really like your thought, and could rename the piece “Twilight Flight”!

Kye– I thought maybe replacing the links with some type of copper chainmaille connection would add a little more interest to the design. That was one idea that keep haunting me throughout the process.

BLE– It is quite breezy were we live, and watching the hawks & crows soar in the wind, riding the thermals, is a favorite past-time of mine. I love to see their effortless gliding–it’s so relaxing.

Have a great day everyone! :)

I LOVE story pieces! It’s fun to create them and just as fun to hear other artists explain what each part represents.

As for the swirls, it sounds like you don’t like them so ditch them! I would say try to keep up the theme and find something that represents your story! Your connecting the bird to the cloud beads on your chain, what type of material represents the connection of the birds to the clouds?? Sky…some type of movement???

Such fun! Happy creating! Share your finished piece please! :)

I enjoy the journey & thought process along the way from beginning to end. Thanks for the reminder to stay true to the story, and to not make too many compromises along the way.
Would love to see some of your creations too! :)
