Arwen

About this design:

This stone is Shattuckite, it's not one that I had ever seen before but when I saw it in February I knew I needed to add it to my supply. The beads for the chain are pacific blue apatite from LB.

This is a commissioned piece in exchange of work for work. A guy I know is a leather artist and I wanted a wallet for each of my 2 children with their favorite animal. We agreed on a price and then he had the wonderful idea of a trade. So, he wanted a piece for his wife. They both love Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons and I really wanted to make a piece that would do that world "justice", something that would embody that spirit especially using such a beautiful stone. It took some thinking, and as always just going with it, I don't really plan my designs, they happen rather organically.

I can honestly say I am quite proud of this item, there is always going to be some "imperfections" if you will but that's I think what makes them feel almost "alive". Sorry if this is a bit off the wall but sometimes you have the rare piece that speaks to you and you capture its essence.

I named it Arwen from Lord of the Rings because that's what it felt like. I keep thinking of that scene in Fellowship where Liv Tyler is at the river where her hair is flying and her eyes are blazing. You can feel the power emanating from her the way Tolkien must have intended. It felt -appropriate.

Components:

Shattuckite, sterling silver wire, pacific blue apatite

Beautiful Kristin – You should be proud of this design. Your wire work is amazing. Both the front and back are so lovely. If it wasn’t all ready spoken for I’d tell you to keep it. Just great.

What a beautiful piece! The swirls of the silver over the blue do remind me of that scene- when she summons the “water horses” to flood out the enemy! And your side wire work is amazing.

I came to scout around the Black Friday Sales items but could not get past your remarkable necklace and pendant design. The colors and their combinations caught my eye but I became mesmerized by the wirework you did in the stone holder. I have a peculiar fondness for combinations and hybrids of art forms. For my eyes you made your wirework a graphic form using the stone as a background — an idea which I think extremely promising for your future work. I was reminded of the flourishes of calligraphy that so greatly augment the beauty of Medieval Bibles. I looked at other designs you have posted on Lima Beads and noticed a progress evolving toward this piece. You are reaching toward a string of masterpieces which I will watch for with great anticipation.
