Stargazer Earrings

About this design:

Our challenge this month is only for 20 days and I chose to learn to make these Rivoli earrings and make 10 pair. Ha! I've modified that to 3 and I don't know that I will meet that goal, but that's ok. I call these Stargazer because the pearl colored seed beads amidst all the dark beads reminds me of stars in the darkness. I bought a box of these Rivolis. These black ones don't shine and sparkle like the rest of them, but I like black and red together.

2 14mm Rivolis. 2 6mm faceted dark red rondells. 28 3mm faceted dark red rondells. 2 dark red briolette drops. 16 4mm black diamond bicones. 4 dark red Picasso silky beads. 11/0 seed beads in silver lined topaz and dark cream pearl color. 15/0 bronze seed beads. 2 ear wires.

Wow KR- these are stunning! The little pearls do look like stars and the bronze 15/0′s are a beautiful touch. Can’t wait to see what you do with the rest of the rivolis. Looks like you’ll be spending lot of time at the opera.

Thanks BLE, CC, and Pam. I had to rip this out 5 times! It’s just tricky to figure out exactly how many beads you need to make the net tight but not too tight. Once you get that right, the rest isn’t too hard. There are several ways to bezel these, and BLE, I thought of you as I tried to do it with a peyote stich ring. I wasn’t able to do it but I thought, I’ll bet BLE would have no trouble with this. I’ve ordered some hematite colored beads from LB and when I get them I will try again, but I lost patience with it, and Jazz lost patience with me. She’s been in rare Diva demanding mode this week, LOL.

Sounds like little Jazz is a handful. Ha. For me there is a lot of trial and error. I know what you mean about ripping it apart over and over. I think with peyote it’s just try, try, and try again. I’m getting better at it but still find it hard. Wow. A box of rivolis. Nice. Keep up the good work.

These are so beautiful. I would be so happy to have made one pair. They look so difficult to make. Well done!

Excellent name for your design. I admire anyone who can work with needle and thread and have something so gorgeous to show for it.
