Hummingbird’s Tree

About this design:

The inspiration for this necklace came about in a backward way.

We have this little hummingbird, that for the past three years, stays all winter long in a leafless tree—standing guard, protecting his territory. When we would go out into our backyard, he would make clear that we were in ‘his’ space and sound the alarm for us to leave. I don’t know how he survives the cold, but he doesn’t like to leave his spot on the top branch. I kept wishing that it would warm up and the tree would start to come back to life.

So there you go—my inspiration—Hummy sitting in his tree full of leaves & flowers (the tree blooms pink flowers as the temperature warms up.)

I have had this Golem pendant for many years—waiting for inspiration. So I will thank little hummy for his help in creating this necklace. I hope to make a bracelet for this piece and have purchased some copper hummingbird charms for that endeavor.

I love this design! Other than the light blue, these are not colors I would be likely to pick up – even if using the pendant. But these choices are perfection, in particular with the enchanting pendant. The organic flow from pendant to strand and back again is seriously mesmerizing. What a beautiful reminder to reach outside my comfort zone. Congratulations and thank you on such inspiring worK. Please wear this in good health and joy!

Excellent delivery, it flows so well. The well placed metal beads add enough accent without taking over. And the string “flower” is a nice detail merging pendant to necklace. I see even the clasp has some detail added.

Awesome Crystal! I love your story too. We have hummingbirds migrating through- they buzz my head at times- especially when the feeder is empty! Love the color combination- a great blend with your pendant!

Love the story and the necklace. We have a hummingbird visiting our honeysuckle flowers. I wish you would talk about your clasp. Are those beads or jump rings wire wrapped to the hook? That’s a very intricate detail. You do beautiful work.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I truly appreciate all the kind words. This morning that crazy little hummingbird was chasing the birds who where trying to land in our bird bath–then he would station himself on ‘his’ branch–only now it has leaves on it. I enjoy watching the spring time awakening and all the antics of the animals. At our bird feeder, a mother was feeding seed to her fledgling–so very precious.

Melody, I forgot to answer your question–those are tiny seed beads that I wired onto the hook. I’m finding out my eyes and fingertips aren’t what they used to be! Hope that helps.

Spectacular pendant, fabulous color and terrific design. Love it!

That is one brave little hummer in your tree. They are such contentious little things and a real trip to watch buzzing around each other. Petite prize fighters!

    Thanks again everyone!
SJ, I love Golem ceramics–they pay so much attention to detail in crafting them.
I have collected so many Unicorne drops, and these seemed perfect to represent the new growth on the tree. The picture of the hummingbird in his tree was taken with my zoom feature maxed out–he looked so tiny sitting atop that large tree.
Melody, I took a picture of the clasp for you to see closeup–sorry it’s fuzzy.
Have a great day dear Lima buddies!
