Pearl and Crystal

About this design:

Another rediscovered piece of work. It was about half finished and had been hanging around for many moons. I finished it today and am fairly pleased with the finished piece. I noticed in the photos that the very pale pink pearls came out much darker. No biggie.

The only reason I decided to finish this cuff was because the things I was working on all bombed out. One of the pieces I scrapped and the other two are waiting to see if there is anything I can do to salvage them. Time to drop back 10 and punt.

fresh water pearls of various sizes in light colors, various sizes of clear crystals, 14ga and 24ga red brass wire, two gold seed beads

I love the mix of soft pinks with the white in this piece. The added crystals are wonderful! They all look fantastic wrapped within the golden brass wire. These bracelets are favorite of mine, and one day, I might give it a try. :)

Thanks everyone. What’s not to like about crystal and pearls….I love the combo!

CC, the first similar cuff I made was in a workshop. The original piece is called Spiral Cuff by Irina Miench in her book “Beautiful Wire Jewelry for Beaders.” It is on page 103. My take on the original has evolved quite a bit but it all started with that one.

Lovely LRC – Nice choice of beads and the wirewrapping is fantastic. Love this design.

Thanks LRC. I’ve seen her book before…will check to see if the library still has it. Hubby was at the hardware store yesterday and I had him look at the brass wire. They only had 16 ga. and it was so bright. I’ll have to check online for something a little heavier. For these, do you like 14 ga. the best?

CC, I use copper wire from Home Depot and other places but the brass I buy on line. Some of the sizes I buy in 1# spools others in 4oz spools. The brass wire I use is red brass. It is very similar in color to 14K gold. Most of the time I buy my red brass from Rio Grande. The spools for the 1# amount have a large diameter and the wire is easier to straighten. The smaller diameter spools used by most of the other sites are OK for 18ga and smaller but I find the 16ga and larger work best from the large diameter spools. The only other place I buy red brass from is Monster Slayer but I only buy smaller gauges. Some of the items they carry I can’t find on other sites for as reasonable price. Best thing to do is check out both sites but be prepared to spend a lot of time “window shopping.” I can spend hours just looking at everything. I’m like a kid in a candy store. :D

What a pretty piece LRC. I love big bracelets like this. I call these things UFOs for unfinished objects, and isn’t it nice when you finally get back to that project you set aside long ago? Nice wire work. Pearls and Swirls can’t be beat.

KR, this cuff is definitely a large one and made to fit a larger wrist. I have a relatively small wrist and it can be made tighter but it is more difficult to put on and take of when it is adjusted for me.

I know what you mean LRC. I don’t like to squeeze the bracelet closed,or struggle to get it closed. One thing that bugs me about wire wrapping is how bendy the pieces are, so I tend to add tons of wire to make them stronger. Here are some pictures of a bracelet, not my best and I messed up a couple of things, but the idea was to try making it shorter and then adding a little ” hinged ” piece to each side and connect a clasp. Much easier to get a good fit. It worked pretty well but I don’t care much for the bracelet. I thought I’d show you some pictures of the idea.

This is one of the nicest hand-crafted cuffs I’ve seen, Little Round Chick! That Red Brass wire looks like a satin finish, which is lovely. I still struggle with wire, but really admire your talent!!
