Happy Glass!

About this design:

I had a beautiful vintage pendant from Burkina Faso that needed some color. African Glass beads in multi colors seemed to fit the bill! Of course, the metal beads and the color of leather was important, too!

Vintage Lizard Pendant from Burkina Faso, African Recycled Glass Saffron Mini Donut 12mm, African Recycled Glass Bottle Green Mini Donut 12mm, African Recycled Glass Cherry Red Mini Donut 12mm, African Recycled Glass Caribbean Blue Mini Donut 12mm, African Recycled Glass Sapphire Mini Donut 13-14mm, one last donut bead in a purple amethyst color and finally I used twelve of the Nigerian brass donut beads from my stash. I put them all on doubled Kansa (metallic) Round Leather Cord 1.5mm.

Jogi, I really like your necklace. My son always had lizards when he was a kid -so I developed a kindness for them. I have 2 (about 14 inch) long ceramic lizards on the wall of my porch (very colorful)!so back to your necklace- all the colorful beads look awesome with him. A great Southwest look- he needs a name

Great ethnic focal! Choice of leather and African recycled glass beads keep the right feel for this necklace. Love it!

What a fun, happy necklace. The lizard pendant is wonderful – I agree he (she?) needs a name.

What an outstanding design! Your choice of beads works so well with the lizard pendant. I agree with BLE. this is a fun, happy necklace. The lizard reminds me of the alligator lizards that scurry around in my yard. I call them Little Lizzies.

Love the ethnicity of this piece! Everything works so well together. I vote for “Lizzie”, per LRC’s comment. That tie-dye pink and orange background really shows it off!!!

Thank you all! The lizard may be a crocodile so I may need to think of a more toothy name. Maybe “Baby”, the happy crocodile! Somebody may have a better name. In the area of Burkina Faso where the amulet is from, the crocs don’t attack the people. Children and adults swim in the waters with them and they even will sit or lie on their backs. Their is a story of the crocodiles back sometime in history, somehow saving the humans so they all treat each other nicely.

I absolutely love lizards, and played with them throughout my childhood, (well…I must confess…I still do!), and we have two friendly ones that live on our back porch named Sherman & Henry. I think the colorful donuts weaved on the metallic cord is a great way to highlight the focal. It’s like a meandering path that lizards take as they scurry about on the ground. I really like the creative flow of this piece. Great work!

Thank you everyone! Now I need to figure out how to do my photos better! Love the name ideas. I have a few more pendants and I will have to look at them and talk to them so I am ready with a name when I complete the pieces. Now for the new designs!
