Leaves and Berries

About this design:

This has been a problem child since I started it. The frame is made of two smaller frames that were on my work table. Neither one was too great looking so I decided to join them. That was a bit more tricky than I had anticipated.

After I finished with the frame I went searching through my beads for some with several sizes. The faceted carnelian fit the bill. The shape of the frame reminded me of leaves and berries. I'm not sure what the larger green stones are...possibly a variety of jasper? The small green ones are small nuggets of chrome diopside (one of my all time favorite rocks).

Wiring the beads in was fairly simple at first but as more were added it became more difficult. At one point I thought I was done so I put a chain on and put it on a bust. I looked at it for several days then made some photos. I could see in the photos that the balance was off. Added a few more beads on one side then watched it again for a couple of days. Took some more photos and decided the balance was acceptable.

WOWZA!LRC….this is over the top fabulous! A holiday hit ! How long did it take to do the stone wiring? The balance is perfect . You must have a great stash of carnelian- and it’s so dark and beautiful. The diopside is perfect for the contrast. Will you wear it for the holiday or will it go to the gift shop? What kind of chain did you use? Love it!

Robin, thanks for the compliments. I don’t really know how long it took to make it. I worked by fits and starts over several days. The carnelian has been in my stash for years. I still have a fair amount left. I love the color. The chain is antique brass from LB
I won’t be wearing it as I am vertically challenged and it definitely needs a much taller person. I’m not sure if I will take it to the gift shop. Covid-19 has put a crimp in my activities and since I am a very senior citizen I have really limited my outings. My vacation this year will be to Puerto Backyarta or La Rotunda de la Sofa. :D

I love your handmade focal but somehow I imagine it hanging from green silk string, instead of chain. Lima has 3 shades: leaf, sage, and lime. All 3 could be braided. Or weave a silk string through the chain. Maybe that’s a project for me, she said, lazing in bed, eating crackers. Of course it is beautiful the way it is. Quite an eye catcher.

It makes me think of royalty, something a fairy princess could wear. It has a magical feel to it. Very rich, with jewels dripping from the main leaves and berries.

I definitely thought of a luscious berry vine as soon as I saw. Beautiful work and very well balanced. I really like it short(so that the chain sits more “rounded” as it seems in the main picture).
