Wildcat Beads

About this design:

I saw these patterned beads and immediately fell in love with them. The beads are ocelot print jade and the spots, stripes and patches of color are man made. I think this combination of colors on an off white background is very striking.

The metal piece in the center is textured and polished 24ga sheet copper. I textured it with a chasing hammer then rolled one end over to make a tube for stringing. The stick shaped pieces are made with 12ga copper wire that is flattened on both ends. A hole has been punched in one end to hold a jump ring for stringing. Because of the weight of the components I chose beading chain for stringing.
All of the metal in the necklace, except for the chain, is pure copper.

Made a marvelous discovery while working on this piece. I found I can cut 24ga sheet copper with an inexpensive pair of kitchen/utility shears bought at the 99cent store. They make cutting curves so much easier. And they are not as heavy or clunky as tin snips or aviation shears. They fit small hands better, too.

Components:

24ga sheet copper, 12ga copper wire, copper jump rings, spacers and 2mm X 10mm copper tubes, pattern printed jade, antique copper beading chain

Beautiful! I love how you take copper and continually push yourself to master it as an art medium. Well, at least it seems that way to me or maybe you just have a curious and playful attitude? Do you seal the copper or let it darken and age?

wowza! this is beautiful – would look awesome with a black sweater and animal print skinny jeans and boots! (of course, you wouldn’t catch me dead in skinny jeans) but I sure would wear it on a black cashmere sweater! Love it!

Robin I’m too short and round for skinny jeans but the black sweater definitely.

Those beads are so cool. They look fantastic with your hammered copper pieces. I also really like the tubes that bring an additional linear feature to the sides. Great design LRC!
