Fun with felt balls

About this design:

I saw the felt balls on LB and called Izzy (my granddaughter). We had such fun making these and then the angel ornaments. Bead room shenanigans ! I thought we might listen to some oldies but, we ended up listening to her solo songs ( she’s in dance). Good compromise. Pappy made the ornaments out of walnut and plywood. The world is changing so much and so fast- I cherish these times with her. I wonder if my grandparents ever felt like that. Do you ?

Components:

We used felt wool balls, seed beads, cup beads and silver findings. We painted the angels with alcohol ink and she chose the charms for each. Ranger alcohol ink now comes in markers in sets.

LOVE Christmas decorating!!! I love your ornaments. Both sets! Definitely could be a starting point for a beautiful themed tree…but mostly I love hearing your sweet grandma experience. I’m in that in between place with kids away at college. I so fondly remember our sweet Christmas decorating days from when they were younger and I’m looking forward to Christmas fun with grandkids! (Never had that with my mom or grandmas) Truly a treasure that you have shared!!!! I had already planned to paint some branches today. Thank you for inspiring me to make it more fun and special. Even if it’s just me I will add some music and tea and good memories and gratitude!

What lovely Christmas decorations. The angels are beautiful – I love the little charms. So glad you all get to be together.

Yes, I also enjoyed many a Christmas with my grandkids, My husband and I would bring a huge box of gingerbread boys and girls. I made the different colored frostings ahead of time and put them into separate piping bags. We would all decorate the cookies together. Of course the kids used way too much frosting! It was so much fun.

ZK, I’ve got to be honest-it was a challenge to listen to glam, medicine and everybody wants to rule the world while doing Christmas stuff- when in my head I’m thinking more along the lines of -Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas! But I did it- and enjoyed every minute of it!

Yeah – now they’re too old and far away. But the memories will always be with me.

Your granddaughter must treasure these times with you all as well. What special memories! Love the angels!! I never thought of using Ranger inks on wood, but the finishes you achieved are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your honesty Robin…when all alone a person can listen to whatever they want. Hadn’t thought about what it would be like to have to listen to their playlists…

When I first saw the picture in the design gallery I have to confess I thought they were earrings. Now I love not totally identical earrings, but I was thinking these were way tooooo off in the wrong direction! Hehehe….

ZK, they are earrings, I just put one on the box to show some variety. There is a match . I made the Christmas colored one and Izzy designed all the other color combos. She likes the ombré look. We made 15pairs. ( that should cover her teachers Christmas gift, dance teachers, and the week before Christmas we always give a little gift to the girl in the drive thru of whatever fast food place we go. Poor guys, – don’t know what to do for a teen guy

I love them as tree ornaments! And because they are light they can go on the tips of even small branches and won’t weight them down. Talk about seeing what you want to see! Lol…when paired up they are great, fun earrings too. I thought you were brilliant using ear wires for ornament hooks! I had already decided that I was most definitely going to steal that idea to hang my small specials on the branch tips. Oh please stop me if I start to wear ornaments in my ears! I think I had better get outta the house, the cabin fever is obviously getting to me. Thank you for the good laugh (at myself)!!!

Oh my goodness, I love all of these! And, I love the interaction between everyone, too! These are so pretty and the ornaments are really nice, too. I may steal an idea or two. My boys have just graduated from GATech and there are no prospects in the foreseeable future so grand kids are a bit off for us. Can’t wait! My grandparents played cards with us, canasta, and I have lots of great memories of huge family card games but no ornaments. Oh well!

Your Christmas shenanigans sound like so much fun. Everyone will love the earrings. And the angels are just fantastic! It’s so special that you all helped in creating them.
