Something Different in Ear Rings

About this design:

I saw an interesting pair of ear rings that were made using bails as one of the components in the design. Thought why not? So I got a bunch of bails and some big round silver plate jump rings. Went thru the stash looking for items to use and came up with a pair of barrel shaped blood stone beads and the blue Rhinestone rondelles. The one that is all jump rings was another why not? These designs won't rock the world but who knows what the will lead to.

I noticed while viewing the photos that some of the jump rings were not closed properly. The SP must be over stainless steel. These rings were extremely hard to manipulate.

Nice! No law says you can’t “other purpose” jewelry components. String your crimps, dangle your clasps, and make your posts go round! These earrings turned out well.

Earrings are my favorite type of jewelry. These are fun! Love swinging designs. I have a fondness for the rings in toggle clasps and a pile of the bars left over. What to do with those? Love to see “other purpose-ing” and I love the term “other purpose”….might steal from you both?

Thanks to both of you for your comments. I like your terms “other purpose and other purposing.” I’ll just add them to my jewelry lingo. These were fun to make and I have a whole other bag of the jump rings. I’ll just “other purpose” them and go play outside the box.

What an awesome idea to use bails like that! Love the idea of repurposed components- you are always so creative outside the box- love them!

Great earrings. Very fun designs. I agree – very creative. Didn’t know you could put silver plating on stainless steel.

    Thanks for the comments everyone.
BLE, I just assumed the jump rings were stainless because they were sooo difficult to manipulate. They may be SP brass. I’ll just go scratch one and see what under the silver. I’ll get back to you on that.

BLE, the jump rings are silver plated brass. They were so stiff I assumed they were steel. That’s what happens when you don’t read the specs. You give bad information. One more fact to add to my wire knowledge. Thanks for calling it to my attention. :)

Thanks LRC – I didn’t know if I was right or not but I looked it up and it can be done. But I didn’t understand why it would be done for jewelry. Thanks for letting me know.

Further research…. You can get SP steel jump rings and chains as well as SP pewter (both tin base as well as zinc.) The steel was just listed as steel so it isn’t stainless. Hey, inquiring minds want to know.

    Thank you.

Very clever, LRC! You’d never know that these were bails. And they do come in some very decorative motifs. You’ve inspired me to go dig around in my stash!

FB, I didn’t have any bails so I bought a bunch on Amazon. I still have at least 10 pairs. Now I just need some long crystals, interesting sticks, fat round beads and who knows what else.
