Carnelian and Lace.

About this design:

A few weeks back I pulled off a pick with browns and bronzes. It made me go back to my own beads (last picture) looking for smoky quartz and African Opals. I pulled some beads with reds to go with the opals but I really just wanted to pull off something with my vintage smoky quartz. Last picture is my stash. In the comments a wonderful contributor, Nancy, suggested I look at carnelian as a possible addition. Back to digging and these pictures represent the two iterations that I came up with. Thank you Nancy!!!!! I used the smoky quartz around the back of the neck and then as spacers between the tear drops/ pears and with darker colors in the African Opals. I had all of these beads from old purchases. The smoky quartz and older carnelian came from some beads I purchased years ago from the estate of a NYC jewelry designer. She apparently taught beading and jewelry making in the NYC library system. I still have thousands of beads from that purchase, mainly freshwater pearls. I still have too many of those. I do not use the pearls these days. Haven't in a long time.

First photos: Tear drop shaped and diamond shape African Opal, Vintage smoky quartz bricks, Vintage Carnelian rounds, 6mm. Second set of pictures used a more recent, more orange carnelian about 8mm with the same beads.

Wow Jogi – So lovely. I really like the way the 2 strands pass over each other. So pretty with the orange carnelian. Thanks for sharing all of your designs. Oh- nice stash also.

Thank you ! I think I mixed up which pictures had which carnelian. The first two pics have the newer carnelian (as if carnelian can be considered new since it spent millennia forming) and the last three pics are with the older beads. I would be interested to know if anyone has a preference.

Perfect autumn colors in a great design. Carnelian always adds a bit of zing any design.
