Flashback to the 50's

About this design:

Used a St. Petersburg stitch to make this necklace. My husband took one look and said, "Looks like a piece from Woolworths for old ladies in the 1950's". And if that wasn't bad enough he then said, "You usually have to wait for old Aunt Millie to die to get one of those". Then he said, "It looks great on you". Then I told him what I wrote and he said "I'm usually very supportive. You make it sound like I was mean". hahahahahahaha

Wow! He’s so lucky you have a great sense of humor! I have very fond memories of eating at the downtown Woolworth’s lunch counter with my mom after a morning of shopping. Usually a grilled cheese sandwich. And yes, we did get dressed up to go downtown to shop back in the 50s!
Love the ombre look of your beaded lovely. The amethyst colored drops give this a real elegance.

Well I think it’s gorgeous! Of course I was around during the 50s and my mother’s name was Millie! I love the shape and the colors. One of your most beautiful pieces. I think it is very romantic. Maybe not at your house. Somebody needs a time out. ☺

This is lovely and I love the way you have used the drop beads. (My grandparents lived in St. Petersburg in the 50′s but I don’t think they hung out at Woolworths- they hung out at the beach.)

Beady, your necklace is beautiful. I remember Woolworths too. I told my mother that I wanted to work there and live with her forever.

Thank you all so much. I couldn’t stop laughing. He’s probably right – I should undo it. But I have worn it 4 days in a row.
I also loved the lunch counter at Woolworths. So much fun.
Melody – I love the idea of a time out.

Beady at the end of my remarks, I said your husband was a hoot, meaning funny and it was removed. This was also done on another funny comment I made. weird! anyway, it really sounded like a funny conversation!

Robin – you’re right it was fun. I ask for his opinion sometimes. And sometimes I listen. When I told him I was sharing our conversation with my friends at Lima Beads he got worried. That was the funniest part of all. hehehe

Absolutely fantastic! Beautiful play of colors and a terrific design. Aunt Millie would wear it proudly.

Great story, however, once it is said it can’t be called back and you never know where it is going to wind up.

Loved Woolworth’s and the lunch counter. When I was in college we called it Werewolf’s.

Beady, this definitely lands in my top five favorites of yours! I love the use of teardrops in this piece–and the more the better in my opinion. The lighter color seeds create a ‘lace’ for the dark drops to hang from. Outstanding work!
