Layered Feathers

About this design:

As I was going through some supplies, I came across a case full of 2-holed beads that I've been gathering for some time now. I also like the many different styles of Czech drops & daggers that Lima carries and have a bunch of those too. Sadly, I can never find a way to incorporate them into designs. So, I thought I'd be creative while passing the time indoors after a welcomed snowfall for two days. The sun is out now, and it's slowly melting away.

Czech daggers; brown coral; ivory & brown druks; 2-hole Twin rollers; blue/grey seeds

Beautiful CC. Lovely colors and the layers look great. Wonderful use of the 2 holed beads. And the stripes created by the beads really give it a bird like feel. Very natural.

This is fantastic!! I love it when you post something…it’s always something great. I wouldn’t know what to do with two hole beads. but you did a great job!

Really interesting use of the dagger beads! Your layering does kind of soften them up to look like feathers.

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback on this design. Does anyone have other ideas for using the dagger beads? I’d love to see some of your designs using them. Do you think a bracelet would work fanning them like the front of the necklace? I’m not sure it would lay right. Would love to hear your suggestions. :)

Beady, I remember you using green ones for leaves, and it did catch my eye. I think that is a wonderful idea!

Wonderful necklace CC, I love the layered effect of the daggers. I use daggers(and any other top-drilled beads) as petals for flowers in rings and bracelets.

Lovely necklace! I have been struggling with multi strand necklaces, getting them to play together nicely. Hadn’t thought of using the two hole beads, going to rip you off/give it a try! As far as daggers in a bracelet? I would think using them more as “charms”, setting them loosely, letting them flow and flop around. If both sides of anything look good then I think they are charms just waiting to be bracelets. I love the movement and the “charming” noise of a chunky bracelet…I also like to use two hole beads as charms, one hole connecting to the base and the other holding a smaller charm…Almost called my designs Charmed, hehehe

And I also want to add that I continue to pray for your hubby and you! I was so glad to see you creating…good medicine!

I appreciate all the comments! Using daggers as petals is another great idea! Zippy, Thank you so much for your prayerful thoughts. I agree that anything 2-sided is great for charms. I dislike charms with the motif only on one side–who wants to look at a blank back? I think using the daggers free-flowing as dangles is wonderful–imagine all the texture. Thank you all for the ideas!

Wow! This is my kind of necklace…bold! Love the daggers. I’m guessing this took a bit of arranging & re-arranging to get it just right….but you did get it just right! Great color picks to complement the daggers. Winner!
