Glass Rings

About this design:

Inspired—I love the way Ali stacks African recycled rings in her designs. Having had the larger glass rings for almost a decade now—hiding in the closet—it finally hit me how to use them. Needing a few more casual pieces to wear, I wanted to use some type of fiber in the design. From there, the piece just fell together. The Unicorne mini donuts were an ‘oops’ purchase and have been sitting almost as long—unloved & unused. Somehow, they called out and gave this casual piece a little sparkle with their luster finish. Now I’m ready to run my errands….. :)

I love being inspired by this website and all of you wonderful beaders out there. Thanks for the inspiration Ali!

Love the negative space created by the unicorn donuts on opposite cords! Do they stay spaced as shown or are the managed by the barrel beads? Either way, it looks lightweight and boho-classy.

Hi Deb, thanks for the nice comment. The Unicorne donuts stay in place as the cord is thick enough to keep them from moving & sliding. It was a little tight trying to get the suede thru their holes. Thanks again.

What a beautiful necklace to wear everyday! I love necklaces that aren’t for dressy wear. I have a couple dressy necklaces, but a who!e lot more any time necklaces.

How cool is this CC….I didn’t know there was such a thing as a ring connector….and I love Unicorne beads and try to use them on occasion. Everything did just fall into place to make a great little necklace to wear with just about anything. Great job!!

This is a most interesting piece. I’ve never seen these glass rings before. Very casual indeed. I think of wearing it with a cotton flowing dress while walking on the beach. Now, the mind plays tricks. In the 3rd photo I saw faces on the barrel beads, but looking at the 2nd close up photo I see it is just an illusion. Check it out. Do you see it? I like this very much.

So cool CC. Isn’t it fun when things just fall together? Your work is always an inspiration to me.

Thanks for the wonderful comments. I appreciate them very much.

Jane, Lima used to carry the ring connectors–I think they are a wonderful little invention. I attached a photo for you to see. I bet one could be made from some light gauge sheet metal with a little practice. Glad I bought a few of them.

KR, I like your vision. I’d love to take a walk on the beach–wish we lived closer to one. I’m sorry–I’m not seeing faces. :) Maybe the leather popping thru the cut-outs is creating an illusion. I like that we all see different things!

Beautiful creation CC. I love how the clear glass ring is mimicked by the unicorne beads. It’s fantastic how they stay in place on the leather. The olive leather was a wonderful color choice.
