life is a carnival--SWAP ANNOUNCEMENT

About this design:

When I was a kid, I used to love making those psychedelic "spin paintings" you sometimes could find at a carnival or amusement park stand. For those of you too young to remember, the shop proprietor would put a piece of paper on a spinning turntable. Then he handed you squeeze bottles full of paint (you got to choose the colors!) and you dripped the paint onto the spinning paper. The result was something wild and abstract and swirly and surprisingly "professional" looking, at least as compared with what I could paint by hand at age 6. :-) Anyway, I fell in love with these yummy little glass beads cuz they reminded me of that experience.

1. In order to particpate, email me your home mailing address by FEBRUARY 15th to

2. By FEBRUARY 18th, you will receive your swap partner's name and mailing address via return email. Matching is entirely random.

3. Your swap beads must be mailed to your partner by FEBRUARY 25th. Please don't be late with your mailing--otherwise your partner is disappointed, I get lots of emails saying, "where are my beads?" and have to bug you. Not fun for anyone involved!

4. Your swap package should contain a minimum of 12 beads -- four triplet sets of three matched beads. If you have more beads that you want to send (in groups of three), feel free. Lots of people were VERY generous during the last swap and I know their partners were thrilled and grateful.

4. If all goes well, each participant should receive their triplets during the first week of March. Last time, we had one person who didn't meet her commitment and I sent the missing beads to her partner. I will commit to making good on any missing beads again so you can participate, confident that you WILL receive beads from someone. :)

5. That's it. Easy! I will post these details on the wire at least once more for those who may miss this announcement.

Hope we have a great turn-out!

    Gorgeous earrings as always!

Do you have guidelines as to the type of beads to swap? Also, would it be helpful if you identified the beads you are sending to your swap partner? I noticed a couple of designs in the gallery where people used their gift beads but didn’t know what the stones were.

I used to have a home version of that machine and LOVED it. The beads above reminded me of the same thing!

Beautiful earrings and thank you for the swap details above. This will be fun and I’m already setting aside some cool groups of threes for my swap partner! I have more beads than I know what to do with so I’m looking forward to sharing! You’ll have to tell us another time how many joined in last time vs. this time! SLS

I DO remember those machines!! Even at that young age I think my inner creativity was drawn to the unknown design that would come out of each spin of the wheel!

And I’m in for the bead swap! Gonna’ give it a whirl this time!! :-D Can’t wait!

Thanks for the compliments and shared memories, ladies — and thanks for your interest in the swap!

Once again, I want to emphasize that you MUST EMAIL me at if you would like to participate. Also, DON’T FORGET to include your HOME MAILING ADDRESS. I can’t rely on posts on the design gallery board or Lima messages to keep things organized — and you partner can’t send you beads if she doesn’t know where you live!

One swapper expressed concerns so I want to assure you that your info is safe with me. Your address will be shared only with your swap partner and I will not share your email address with anyone.

It would be great if people would post photos of their “triplet” projects at LB when they are complete. If we lobby Kevin at Lima Beads, maybe they will set up a special section of the gallery for swap projects?

As far as what kind of beads to send, there are no rules except one: please send only beads that you would be proud to use and are proud to give. That being said, the idea behind the triplet swap is that having matching beads makes it easier to include them in a unified design. I think that’s probably even more true of larger beads than small beads like pearls…but again it is up to you.
