Vintage Brass Dragonfly Bracelet

About this design:

Hi everyone! Have missed you all and been very busy at work. I ordered a large amount of brass pieces and this one just put itself together. I am thinking about submiting to a magazine? what do you think? I also may be selling this in my downtown area. The owner of a little shop came in and said that they sold nothing that looks like this and gave me her card :) Ego boost lol. So now I can put up the pic of this. It actually started as a necklace but is much more practical as a bracelet. Hate to get rid of it though!

YIPPEE! Way to go. Haven’t heard from you in a while, but when we do – good news! So happy for you. This is really unique. I think it will go fast. Love the dragonfly. Keep us posted on your progress. It’s always nice to see a fellow artist appreciated and doing well. Congrats.

Thanks Linda! I’ve very breifly seen some awesome things come from you when jumping on the site for a second here and there :) , you really hit the shops on your trip! I don’t get a chance to get on here enough and have one more that I hope to have time to post. I owe people feedback right now so I’m trying to make it through the older designs and catch up on whats going on with everyone :) Take care Linda, hugs!

Very cool bracelet, D! I never see any components this cool at my Michael’s. And congrats on sparking the interest of a shop owner. That is awesome! You go, girl! And be sure to make another one for yourself. :)

Thanks D … it’s a lot of fun to submit your items to magazines and see if they accept. I say ‘go for it’ if you are thinking about it! SLS

Hi Lee! We have a next generation Michael’s where I am (1 of 14 in the chain). I’m lucky we got it because the 14 next gen stores are the only stores with beading associates (we work in jewelry only, do custom orders and pieces to sell for the store, kinda like floral). We tend to get in more cute obscure stuff, findings, beadcaps, ect. I think I will make another :) I did get a lot of the pieces from Lima though for this design.

I am thinking about it SLS, can’t hurt! Just need to get off my rear and email it :)

    Lee D says:

Ah! I guess I didn’t recognize them as LB pieces when they are put together like this. Will have to take a closer look. :)

  10. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

Very simple when you look close. Just had a time getting the tail to stay in place (4mm jumpring). Gotta love simple but it did take some time to get everything lined up right, and I did a lot of staring at pieces spread all over the floor :)

  11. Little Round Chick
    Little Round Chick says:

Looks like your staring worked out very well. Fantastic bracelet. Was the brass oxidized when you got it?

  12. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

yes it was LRC :) I haven’t played with liver of sulfur yet but would love to try it! Do you know or does anyone know if it requires a ton of ventilation? I would just be so happy and antiquing everything in sight!

  13. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

Well, let me know if you start doing that – I’ll stay out of your sight – I’m antiqued enough already!!!!!!

  14. Jewelry by Shannon
    Jewelry by Shannon says:

Liver of Sulver doesn’t require that much ventilation, but it doesn’t smell great so outside for your first venture could be best. I just ordered Patina Gel from Cool Tools. It’s a lot more stable than LOS in nugget form. :-) SLS

  15. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

So cute Linda! Just love ya to death! Still waiting for the Oriental Express to go on sale at work too. We should both make one the week or week after when they do go on sale (hint hint ;) ) and both do a necklace using stuff from that line. Can’t wait for that sale! That would be soooo fun! You claimed the perfume bottle so I might use the big coin toggle pendant, I have an idea for that and the tan disc beads with the writing on them :)

  16. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

Thank you SLS! I think I will order some! What if you don’t know what kind of metal the findings are? Can a big disaster occur?

  17. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

I also want that enamed hummingbird. Lorrie saw it and thought it was me too. Yeah, watch, tomorrow’s flyer might have them in. It’s the first part of the paper I read on Sunday, Michael’s and A.C. Moore. Both of those AND Joann are all within 2 miles of each other – can you say Shangri La

  18. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

Ahhhh…….our Joann is just down the road and I go almost everyday after work! I miss the A.C. Moore though. We have another little bead shop in town but it’s not enough Linda (well enough to take all my money). Is the hummingbird in the Oriental Express line? They is a peacock pendant framed in black metal that just drives me crazy in that line! I’m trying not to make a necklace for it because I’ve spent so much latley on beads that the wallet needs to cool off :)

  19. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

No, but it is in one of the Blue Moon lines. I think it’s Manor House.

  20. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

I want the perfume bottle pendant too. (and just about everything else)

  21. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

I know the one! I think it is teal and purple? It is super cute! I would love to see a necklace for it! I have the crab from that line and have yet to do anything with him

  22. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

Yeah, that’s the one, he was right next to the crab. Will you listen to us — consumed by it all.

  23. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

I know, it’s hard not to be! Did your Michael’s have the bead gallery for 40% off this week? I have the frog also. He is one of the first necklaces I made :) Oh and of course the fish, both the gold and silver ones. Yep gotta love Manor House! A lot of the beads went on clearance for 2.99 a strand a while ago :)

  24. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

Yeah, got em – How come they only do the 40% bead gallery on one of the color prices now. You know, red(3.99) etc. Used to be all bead gallery on sale at same time. Got bunch Royal Boheme for 1.99 the other day too.

  25. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

Check out the design called Misty Moon. It is really pretty and you will notice the pieces. It turned out really well. The designer here is Copper Penny. She did a great job with it.

  26. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

We had the whole line 40% off but a couple of weeks ago we had only the red and green tag ones for 40%. I don’t like it when they do that, it just confuses everyone too much! I bought a ton of the Royal Boheme too. Can’t help myself! You must make a trip to Michael’s every few days, the Royal Boheme just went down while I was working last. Wish we had more of the clearance pieces in though. Our city that we live in is the biggest within 90 miles so I usually just have to use my discount to get what I want before it’s sold out. We get soooo much business from miles and miles away. Closest big cities are Madison and Twin cities

  27. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

    Checking it out now!

  28. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

I’ve been in Madison several times. Shopped at the mall there, and got my presc. refilled in the Walgreen there. Stayed there on way to Minnesota and then on to S.D.

  29. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

    Do you have Hobby Lobby?

  30. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

We have a hobby lobby about 90 miles away, sigh. My mom and I just drove there a couple weeks ago and they have Vintaj brass! And the findings were half off! Went crazy! Mostly bead caps that I am waiting for the beads to use them on to get here :) I love hobby lobby but such a drive

  31. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

No Hobby Lobby for a few states distance around here. I could handle 90 miles – oh well. We also have a place called Pat Catans. Like the others. The closest is near Pittsburgh, but that’s not far.

  32. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

Beleive me I have gone further for beads! Would love to go to arizona or Califonia bead shopping! Imagine that!

  33. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

I always carry around bead magazine with all the LBS of states I’m in. Since we travel to many states, I’ve been in a ton. There is a fantastic one in a little town in Louisiana that is about 6 rooms in a house, all filled with stuff to make you drool. A really nice one in Casper Wyoming too.

  34. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

Even if I buy one or two beads at each place, I love to bring em home – and they always go in carry-on luggage. More fun when driving though, more states to visit the shops. Flying shorter but driving more opportunities. Not many bead shops a couple of miles in the air!!

  35. Mommykat Bubbly Chick
    Mommykat Bubbly Chick says:

That is so cool! Linda, you need to carry a chickie directory too…and you can plan to meet Chickies in their home states! LOL, I would so love to do that! :D

D, your bracelet is very cool!

  36. Jewelry by Shannon
    Jewelry by Shannon says:

D., it looked like from what I read that it could handle copper, brass, gold filled and silver, so of all the research I’ve done it looked like it could be the most versatile. If you don’t know what the metal is for sure, you might want to try a small piece first! Keep us posted on your adventures and I will as well!! SLS

  37. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

I was thinking, that would be fun to have a chickie directory wouldn’t it. Oh, what I was thinking was maybe developing a spreadsheet with everyone’s website store addresses or something like that. Would be neat if this site could get one somewhere (HINT), but if not, I would take it on. What do you all think?

  38. Jewelry by Shannon
    Jewelry by Shannon says:

  40. Mommykat Bubbly Chick
    Mommykat Bubbly Chick says:

And include birthdays! we all want to send our friends best wishes! That would be pretty cool! of course- a Chicky who lives say 6 hours away from a Chicky could drive 3 hours and they could meet somewhere in the middle! LOL, gotta happen this summer!!!!!!!!!!

  41. KittyMom Linda
    KittyMom Linda says:

Yes, I received my beads last week.

  46. Diane Cauley
    Diane Cauley says:

Thanks McBC! I saw a few of yours that are super cool and I have to go back and comment on! I think a chickie directory would be an awesome idea! Everyone is so talented here!SLS, I didn’t get a chance to participate in the bead swap :( Wish I would have. I have heard that other people have received their beads already. Linda, Traveling to all of those bead shops and getting to see the country sounds just awesome! Really has to be a treat! Check your messages Linda!

  47. Mommykat Bubbly Chick

This combination is ” The Bomb”, as my daughter would say. Such a pretty antique look. I love the combination of the pieces. It is a beautiful piece. By the way, I would like to see your Mother take a picture of you in the warm sunshine smiling about your fabulous pieces. You have talent little girl. (My daughter will be 46 this year and is still a little girl to me. lol)

Love love love the bracelet! and it would be cool to have a “directory” of beaders…I know some of us live here in FL but I don’t know how close..and I get motion sick so I don’t travel too far but..there are ways.

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

wow – it just took me about 10 minutes to read all these comments -
First of all – D – the bracelet is fabulous! I did recognize the vintaj components.

I too participated in the swap – I had so much fun choosing beads for my friend and was excited to to find a box from another dear friend in the mail. I love my “new” beads.

I started a spread sheet about a year ago, but it became overwhelming and haven’t touched it in a while. It would be nice if there was some sort of searchable directory. It is so much fun to meet LB friends when I’m travelling. and learn about new bead stores.
