Red Woodland

About this design:

My Husband accuses me of buying beads to expand my wardrobe. If I make a new piece, I *have* to have a new outfit to go with it. Guilty! I wear this with a rust & brown T...that was on sale! :) The pendant is hand made by me, soldered & wire wrapped...I think it kind of has a *Zen-y* feel to it!

Did you use a chasing hammer or did you solder? Whatever you did, you did it perfectly – this is sooo cool!!

Gorgeous Becca! The whole piece makes me think of something from “Lord Of The Rings”, something an Elf would wear perhaps, your pendant looking like a mysterious ancient symbol. :)

Oh Yeah! I agree with CAS!
    Woodsy, earthy and magical!
    I love it!

    Fantastic wire work design too!
Soldering? Is it hard to do? Does it require special equipment?

Thanks so much for all of your kind comments!:) I’m no expert, by any means, and I’m probably using incorrect techniques & materials for that matter! :) I just use a soldering iron that you can pick up at the craft store. Solder at the hardware store, and a bit of flux for cleaning. I just trap the wires I want to connect under the tip of the iron, heat the metal & slip the solder in between. Let cool & Wire wrap to cover the solder. I’ve tried similar designs, like this one where I’ve added copper balls. The posibilites are limitless!

OOOO! I like this pendant too!

Soldering sounds simple. (Sort of.) Just to get a better idea of what you are describing and how to do it, at what points on the piece has the soldering been done?
(You do such an excellent job, I can’t see where the solder points are!)

Becca, the pic of your pendant above is INCREDIBLE! If you’re not an expert, then I don’t know who is! And as for incorrectly using techniques – who cares! It’s the end result that counts – and yours looks perfect to me!

May I please ask what guage wire you used?

This is so gorgeous! I love everything about it. Attaching the cord the way you did is ingenius. I’m going to steal that feature for sure. Awesome design and execution, perfect balance and harmony…definitely feng shui! :)

    This is 14G wire.
The soldering points are under the wire wraps.
I would be one happy camper if there ever was a copper colored solder, but haven’t discovered it yet. Someday….:)

Becca, these pendants are both stunning! Love the necklace you created with the top one, too! Isn’t wire fun to work with? My hubby’s always reminding me that there’s more than one way to do things — it doesn’t matter which one I use as long as it turns out right. Looks like that works for you, too! :D

Very beautiful works! It is what I want to do with silver but my husband told me ‘NO! YOU are not doing it in the house!’ Oh, well…

This is great. Love the wire work. When I read your first comments I heaved a big sigh. I am no longer able to do this kind of fabrication ’cause my vision isn’t sharp enough and with a torch, even a micro torch, I might burn the house down! However, a soldering iron might not be be so dangerous…..I’ll give it a lot of thought and maybe give it a try. The copper pendant with the balls, what an excellent idea.

    Becca W says:

I set our picinic table on fire last spring…so I’m not allowed to use torches now either. :)
